  1. Thanks everyone. I have found the discussion very informative, in terms of competitive bidding and bridge analysis. There is a happy ending. The other night, much to my astonishment, I received an invitation to play in the doubler’s team. I accepted and enjoyed the game, which passed without incident. However, there weren’t any takeout doubles…
  2. Sorry, but I have to say that I find some of rhm's comments offensive - 'If a sane West...' etc. I understand that rhm feels very strongly about this. However, there is no need to be rude. I have never been aggressive or defensive about my bid. All players make misjudgments at times. Incidentally, I gave the problem to several very strong players at my bridge club. The most popular bid on my hand was 4NT. Presumably, this would lead to a similar doubled result, albeit in 5D. Is rhn saying that these strong players, with proven experience in Gold Cup events and so on, are 'insane' too?
  3. Thanks for all the responses, particularly the very helpful one from rmnka447. I was a substitute in a Teams game. This was the first board. After partner’s outraged criticism, we chose to ignore each other, and subsequently played well. To be fair, my partner was a good player. I never tried to defend my bid of 5C – hence the 50% comment. (It now appears to be bad, whereas I had only thought it was poor.) I think I tend to be too optimistic when bidding. All I need to do now is learn from my mistakes...
  4. Teams. I was sitting West. 5 Clubs Doubled was a very bad score. Partner felt I was totally to blame. Would 50 / 50 be more reasonable? Thanks for any comments.[hv=pc=n&s=sq9653hq54dk65cj8&w=sjhjt9daq43cqt642&n=st8742hak6djtck93&e=sakh8732d9872ca75&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=pp1sd4s5cppdppp]399|300[/hv]
  5. Thanks for the replies. I felt annoyed at the time, but now I'm having regrets about posting this. I think I'm just an old fashioned player who loves the game, and thinks it, partner and opponents should be treated with respect. Sorry for giving the name. This is my first ever post on this site. Thanks once again.
  6. In a goulash competition an opponent ([name redacted]) raised 1 Spade to 7 Spades, holding: sp: 42 hts: 76 dmds: K964 clubs KQ732 Lets Goulash #9095 25th Jan. 2013 When this made, redoubled, he posted LOL. I felt very suspicious. I complained to the tournament host, only to be told it was a goulash. Am I over reacting?
