I put this up as a poll on bridge winners and I got an astounding 91% vote for 3D. Maybe I'm old fashioned I was taught but you don't overcall weak hands with weak hands. Why ... well partner has no idea what to do with a forward going hand. Responder in this case had S AQxxx H QTxx D Kxx C x A monster of a hand which could well produce slam opposite a "normal" 3D bid. It went 3C 3D 4C (great news) 5C; P 5D dbl rdbl all pass. HAK and ruff and club ace -2. Say what you may about the redouble but 9/10 times 5D is cold *if* the 3D bidder has the opening plus bid they promised. These hands will probably always get to 5D if either makes a bid. Strangely 4NT is actually cold from the 3D bidder's hand.

I think most people agreed that a voluntary bid vul game creates a forcing pass. You very rarely bid vul games with the intention of going down. I don't understand this notion that it is 2 way or an advanced save. The opening bid and the dbl make it clear we hold the majority of the points. Why on earth would you advance sacrifice against a contract which (a) may not be bid (b) is unlikely to make. If you can't make 4S don't bid it. Bid 3S and if the opps bid on now at least partner has a say or at the very least NOW you can decide to bid 4S. *IF* we are in a forcing pass situation (and I believe we are) then pass is clearcut. If partner bids 5S we probably let it go. If partner doubles we can bid 5S which shows a slam try and avoids the immediate 6S guess or we might consider passing and trying for 800. I think most of us would be better off understanding or at least agreeing under what circumstances a forcing pass exists not dismissing them.

Just wanted to get peoples view on the auction 1NT dbl and the related one 1NT P P dbl over a 15-17 NT ...

Hi The new format looks great ... but ... I think you will find alot of users including myself like/want to be able to save the hands in .lin format to use gib on them, or do whatever else. Other than that very nice. Should be possible to add a small save button ? :> One other tiny issue is also long auctions, you cant see the lot and need to scroll up/down. Minor Overall thumbs up Karel
