Under reporting GIB bugs someone said: "It never forgets its own system". That is definitely not the case. I have repeatedly found that I click on all the possible responses and none of them match my hand. Even when we are using a convention. Let's see. I lost the hand, but it went: 1S P 2S P 2NT (showing shortness somewhere) P 3C (asking for shortness) Dbl Now I click on every one of my bids and none of them show the shortness. How does the double eliminate the convention when all my responses are still available? Now I have no way to show my hand. Thanks, Peter (P_T_RED) P.S. And will the programmer's ever learn where dummy's trumps go (i.e. on the left, this is never correct when West is dummy)?

ridiculous meanings for bids means yu can't be competitive
p_t_red replied to steve2005's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Robots have done this to me dozens of times. And the higher you balance (after passing), the more points you're assigned (20+, 30+) for balancing at the 4 or 5 level even when it's not possible based on your passing and the opponents bidding. Usually they'll raise a sacrifice to slam making sacrifices impossible to bid. -
On the new version I have a large red log in button, then below that a "Remember me" checkbox and below that an "Invisible" checkbox. On the old version the "Invisible" checkbox is to the right of the username. My problem has been sometimes when I uncheck the "Invisible" checkbox to become visible and I'm invisible anyway.

There's no description of "forcing" in this document. GIB misuses that term quite often.

That isn't an option on the BBO game I was playing: Play bridge - 4 hands.

I just found this: "It sometimes uses “8421” points when cuebidding (A=8,K=4,Q=2,J=1). It will usually force to game if it thinks it has 25 Total Points between the two hands." Maybe it was using "8421" points when computing 25+ total points. However, if that's the case, it needs to call them "8421" points not total points. And based on this evaluation, it will force to game with 3 aces and a jack. That's kind of strange.

I tend to hover over Robot bids to try to find out what they think they're doing. It isn't very helpful when the tip isn't close to what they actually hold (this happens frequently). One recent hand went: North East South West ----- 1 C- Pass- 1H Doubl Pass 2 D-- pass 2H(1) Pass 2NT-- Pass 3S(2) Pass 3NT-- Pass Pass- Pass (1) Where 2H is "rebiddable hearts; 25+ total points" (2) Where 3S is "4+ S;rebiddable hearts; 25+ total points" North's hand was: S: JT32 H: AKQ65 D: 2 C: AK4 17 HCPs, I guess a singleton is worth 8. It went down a couple of tricks. Wasn't paying attention, I was writing this, and had to capture the hands manually, since BBO doesn't do it. South had: S: 854 H: 9 D: J9654 C: QJ96 East had: S: K6 H: JT D: AQT7 C: T8532 West had: S: AQ9 H: 87432 D: K83 C: 7

This has bitten me several times already. In the 2/1 Game Force system I play, 2 clubs over 1 diamond is forcing to game. Robots keep passing me on the second round of bidding however. I finally found this tidbit in the GIB card: "2C response is forcing to one round, but not game force.". Nice to know that finally, but it would be nicer if the bid tip when you hover over the 2 club bid said that instead of "Forcing two over one -- 11+ HCP; Biddable C". Also, the card should have some indication of 2/1 only over the majors under "General Approach".

I've had 2 hands (can't show, BBO doesn't save them) recently where I played against 2 robots and the robot on the left cue-bid and the robot on the right passed. The latest auction went: North East South West Pass Pass 1 H Dbl 2 H 2 S 3 D 4 H Pass Pass Pass Down 3. Not only is the pass totally wrong, but the cue-bid doesn't make any sense if the first place. A game try? At the 4 level? They did the same thing against me recently but at the 2 level. How can one robot be playing cue-bids and the other not when they're playing with each other?

I've had a couple of auctions recently that went 1NT by partner, 2 clubs by RHO, and I wanted to use double for Stayman. Unfortunately, BBO 2/1 requires the use of Lebensohl here. I know of no one who uses Lebensohl at this point. The main reason is you no longer have the use of the 2NT relay for Stayman with a stopper. Your only bid is to queue bid 3 clubs (is that a queue bid since they may not have clubs), and play that as may or may not have a stopper. But no one I know of who plays Lebensohl plays it that way and the convention is not written up that way, so why does BBO play it that way?

They finally published the numbers from the October world mind games contest (a little too late to do any good). Did anyone find their name and the number of entries they earned? In the list I was given 6 entries. Conservatively, I had a minimum of 18 entries based on the points won in Robot Rebate 55% tournaments (6.74 points won in October). Unless I misread the rules (I thought the robot tournaments I won counted too, but I could be mistaken), they were off by at least 12. Did anyone else have the same problem? Do they count the robot tournaments correctly the rest of the time? Thanks, Peter

The auction was: 1♠ Pass 4♠ 4NT Pass Pass Pass Down 4. Everyone but a GIB robot knows that bid is for takeout. [hv=pc=n&s=sh63daqt875cakt42&w=saq9643hkq52dk2c6&n=sk7ht84dj64cq9753&e=sjt852haj97d93cj8&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1sp4s4nppp]399|300[/hv]

http://tinyurl.com/7rntwm8 GIB uses RKCB for one suit then passes in a 4-1 fit in another suit.

http://tinyurl.com/7l9dycl GIB always seems to play for risky overtricks when the contract is cold. GIB can overtake the queen of hearts with the king and cash the jack for the ninth trick. Instead makes a risky throw-in play and loses the rest of the tricks.
