  1. How many time your partner is dealer non vulnerable? It happen only 6 times a day, I think (assuming you play 48 boards per days). On these 6 times how many times the auction does begin with 2 pass? Less than 50% On the 3 remaining times how many time do you have an opening hand with more than 12 HCP? 50% of the time maybe? And on the 1.5 remaining board, there are many hands ( with for instance a 7 or 8 cards suit or 2 suiters) that you will prefer to open 3(or4) in this suit rather than to psyche with 1NT. I think finally this situation doesn’t occur more than one time on 100 boards. Then if your partnership psyches about 2 or 3 times during a tournament, it means you do this almost each time it is possible. Then it seems to me it could be fair to consider it as a part of your system and to let your opponents know you are likely to do it so that they have( like you) have the ability to add and subtract small integers. I don’t think any legal eagle will help here. I don’t think invoking the laws 49B or 402A or 36W is appropriate in this affair. The rule they brake is not the point here I believe. Every pair playing in the Spingold knows the system they play when their 1NT opening is doubled for penalty. Beside they alerted the penalty double (when it wasn’t required) to catch you attention. This wasn’t intended to gain any illegal advantage. This was intended to offend you and to let you know ( not a nice way I admit) that they dislike these systematic psyches opening 1NT with nothing in 3rd seat NV. No need to legislate here. You have been wounded? Then just go and let him know you think he is a fool then possibly throw him a punch. This should help you to feel better. This is way the best way to solve what I think is more a personal affair than a bridge affair
  2. About problem 4, can't partner have a hand like this: Qx Kxxx Kxxx Kxx or Kx Kxxx Qxx Kxxx or Qx Kxxx Qxx Kxxx or Kx Qxxx Kxxx Kxx We are vulnerable and opponents are not.RHO didn't bid 4H on the double and this suggests he was dealt with only 2 cards in H.I think my part is likely to have 4 cards in Heart here. I have made my slam try already bidding 4H and my partner knows I am (very) short in H. And finally I have only 14HCP.
  3. I am looking at the Camrose 2009 broadcast on BBO win . Ireland is playing against England. If I hold my mouse on the name of any player, no profile is visible. I am also logged into BBO on Flash and here all the players have a flag. I wonder why? Is is possible to organise vugraph through BBOflash? Thanks Marie
  4. About the Club suit. If my partner doesn't discard a Club it must be : Or because he is void( then declarer has 10 tricks!) Or because he has the Queen bare.If he had the 4 bare, he should discard it. Maybe also my part gets two cards in Club. Then I keep two cards in Club :P What about the Spades? I should have the count of the suit at this point I think. How many Spades got my part?
  5. Of course as the cards lie plunking the Ace of Heart first works equally well but this is a wrong line as the you will not make when LHO has the stiff Jack of Spade and a small singleton Heart. If the Jack of Spade dropped your best chance is by sure to finesse in Heart as you know 3 cards in RHO and only 1 in RHO. Then playing Spade to the Queen is better than plunking the Ace of Heart first. What you have written sounds very authoritative and logical. I could just as easily explain very authoritatively, though, how mathematically correct "Eight Ever Nine Never" is, give you a ten-card trump fit missing the Queen, and then convince you that contextually playing for the drop makes sense (because, for instance, someone opened 1NT). If I see the Jack fall under the Queen when I lead to dummy, I am most assuredly dropping the stiff King, not finessing. Suppose I make the assumption (not clear, but I'll bite) that LHO legitimately has 1-1-6-5. That gives him one of the two possible hands: ♠J ♥K ♦Qxxxxx ♣AQxxx ♠J ♥x ♦Qxxxxx ♣AQxxx With the second hand, after leading the diamond and winning two clubs, I'm looking at hearts with full knowledge that Declarer's finesse will work. I'm also looking, however, at the fact that dummy has the Q9 tight (in trumps). It is not too difficult to imagine partner having some promotable spade value. So, I am 100% sending out a third club. With the first, I am going passive. Actually, I might even try the tap with that hand, which is why 1-1-6-5 seems strange. But, if I don't go tap, I assuredly have the first hand. So, I don't buy, myself, this idea that playing a spade to the Queen first is superior. I would NEVER hook the heart, given the defense. Excuse me but I don't understand how sending out a 3rd Club could promote a trump.? The Club suit is know 5242 then the declarer can simply ruff in his hand.

  7. This hand comes from the 'coupe de France' last week-end in Paris. My husband played and won it. He assumed LHO was 6-5 and realized he couldn't make if he had a void somewhere then he assumed he had 2 singletons. He played Spade to the Queen to check if the Jack dropped. When LHO played small Spade he finessed the Jack , hoping now for the stiff King of Heart. And that worked( or he wouldn't report me the hand!) If the Jack of Spade dropped he would have finessed in Heart( witch is really more likely than the stiff King) Bravo à Benoit who found the winning line of play . Marie
  8. They lead strictly 3rd and 5th. I don't know why he lead this strange 8 of Diamond but I think you can assume LHO got 6 cards in Diamond or he would lead the smaller with 5 cards. Beside he said 2NT with ADxxx in Club and only the Queen in Diamond then he is more likely to be 6-5 as he was red. This means he has 2 cards in the majors Marie
  9. [hv=d=s&v=e&n=sq9hqj87654dj2c52&s=sak10854ha3dk63ck3]133|200|[/hv] A beautiful play I think. You are playing 4 Spades in South after you opened 1♠ and LHO overcalled 2NT showing minors. LHO lead the 8 of Diamond (3rd and 5th) RHO plays the Ace and plays back the 10 of Club, for the King and the Ace. LHO now plays the Queen of Club (the 2 in RHO-standard carding)and play back the Queen of Diamond. How do you play?
