On occasions due sometimes to a Popular event.I come early, sometimes awaiting a regular pard,on other occasions, viewing other players, That i may invite-subject to their profile. Firstly if awaiting pards arrival-i get an invite, but have to use the Yes-no option.it would be courteous to tick "Another time" "waiting for reg pard" or BOOKED game. On the other occasion i am trawling for a pard, when up pops an invitation, from someone i have never played with, and it states Novice/beginner again i have to use YES/NO with no explanation.can we improve this side of things??? regards

Polite request to all W Class players
pirate22 replied to pirate22's topic in General BBO Discussion
Agree some players are listed with stars--but not all starred players are genuine, the list i have posted are genuine,my main question a lot of top WC players remain anoyomous -why, which is the crux of my question. without trawling the teams section--as an instance "Sillafu" The great Benito G no problem and he openly invites one to his table to kibbitz. If he can reach out to us why not other WC players. I must with due deference add "FREE" to my list -
Polite request to all W Class players

Here is a "First Class Reply" from possibly an "Idiot" that if you look up his profile explains it all. my enquirey still holds good, and in the best possible taste -
Be i ever so humble-but over the years,my bridge has come along in leaps and bounds. The main reason is watching good bridge.the fact that some top class players, have conveluted systems,is not the point, they still have to land the contract. apart from watching top class events on vu-Graph,i am still starved, with no ones permission,i have stolen certain handles, and put them on my "Friends" list, and i am then aware they are playing or commentating.......... overall i would like to add to my list.. But is there a reason? not that if i was Kibbing,i would pester the individual players with why did you bid that/why did you not double finnese/etc etc/why take that view ?. so far i have Roland Waldek-Brolucius-Pelu-Benito Garrozo-Mug, some choose to remain invisible, their perogative,is there also a reason? to be invisible... I and other BBO'ers would like to have a published list, thus derive more pleasure and learning. A list compiled by BBO with top players permission.to include "No Chat from Kibbers" Regards

Congatulations Andrew Robson..

There were a lot of small clubs with say 40 members mostly players of the age 50 upwards, the rent was at modicum,td was usually a competent player, and table money was usually at a minimum to cover rental cost.plus EBU charged money for masterpoint certificates. Then the EBU in its wisdom, wanted to do away with paper masterpoints,so they wanted two pounds on top of the club table money {that was in some cases 100% extra} yes it was all announced, and a free vote ensued.Lots of members voted with their feet-and refused.they were really not interested in master points, anyway so lots of players dissapeared, along with the small clubs..... a crying shame. -

Thanks Barmar-and respect what you say regarding game in a major as opposed to 3n/t or major failure..I still rest my case for a premium on 11 tricks in a ninor -

So when contract bridge came in-still no scoring changes-and i accept the increase in penalties.Auction bridge was 1920-30's??? -
We all know the scores for 1cl-1d-1 ht-1sp made with/without overtricks+ part score. and the scores for 5cl-5d-3n/t-4hts -4sp +game. Should 5cl and 5diamonds hold sway over 3n/t/4hts/4spades.after all, one has to make 11 tricks, and should obtain a premium, over the above game scores. rather than a lucky 3n/t made-or any 4 major on a nice major break. When was the scoring worked out, and decreed many years ago,and who by? Some what as the USA Constitution was laid down by Abraham Licoln, all militaria shoud be able to bear arms {Flintock Rifles}not AK 47's. and was changed by law 2005? to include all americans to bear arms. to give an analogy. im interested in the Bridge laws. regards

One of the worst decisions the cash cow EBU ever made-to charge a fee for attending a live club to play bridge.. although it was explained what was behind the scheme, and a free vote, but it closed down a lot of small clubs, wuth no discretion for pensioners and persons of very low incomes and pension's, Ned Paul campaigned extensively against the proposal. Must say the extra information coming in on this topic is interesting..and informative BBL must examine this . Regards all -
yes the poll was confusing-- i play negative x's showing 8-11 points any shape, if next opp passes my x {neg} my pard can show his hand..if as an alternatitive bid any -its less than 8 points. if i had more points 1n/t shows 8-11 with a stop. a cue bid shows 8-11 and no stop.

what ever one is awarded-- it can be upgraded at a later year, in other countries medals are awarded, purple heart's as an example USA.but uk also has an Honour list dished out by the queen/ king-via the prime ministers recommendation's.. As an aside A Robson does write down to earth tips on bridge. But at the same time David Bird,is a prolic Writer of also down earth bridge books well worth a Buy. -

when is a 2C opening useful?
pirate22 replied to onoway's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I strongly blame partner for his 3diamond bid why the rush... firstly the hand depicted is worth a 2cl opener, opener does not want any one bid to be passed out...with this in mind the 3diamond bidder should slow down just bid 2d and get partners response, may be 2n/t or a suit bid {be it a single suit, possibly a 2 suiter hand or even a 3 suiter hand--in this case opener will bid 3cl-now the 2 d bidder will rebid 3diamonds,this possibly denies any other 4 card suit, or club support, but over 3 diamonds opener can bid either 3n/t,or if pard now bids 3hts over 3diamonds and does not like 3 n/t then bid 4 diamonds--and the opener will decide to drop it,or bid 4 spades. now the 2diamond bidder can bid 4n/t end of story-or bid 5diamonds. the 2cl opener will pass.
