  1. Can someone please confirm if any pre-qualification is required for the two pair games or is it an open entry ?
  2. Hi, Can you please help me with two questions a. I can save deals with annotations in "my hands and results". I can then load these at a teaching table. Is there any way for the annotations to be visible at this teaching table ? At the moment, all I appear to be able to do is play through the hand b. The feature "Export this deal to a table" seems to always give an error. What is its function and how can it be used. Thanks Sartaj Hans
  3. Hi, I purchased refills which state that on the back paage Usable only with Bridge Master 2000 - Standard edition - Audrey Grant Edition Do not open if you have : -....Sand - BM for Windoews - BM for Dos The Bridge Master software I have seems like Bridge Master 2000. The icon is Bridge Master 2000 and opening up the program shows a box next to a picture of a king that says "Bridge Master 2000". So it seemed to me that these refills are the right ones. But in the program, clicking on Install extra deals gets the prompt : SElect Drive with the choices being A: and B; only The refills disk is on the CD-ROM D:\ drive. I bought the refills a while ago ( a year or so i think) but i cant see why that would be an issue. Would appreciate any help Thanks Sartaj
  4. Thanks for the replies, folks. Played one afternoon in Concordia Club on Van Ness/Geary. Very pleasant game.
  5. Hi, I am looking for some information on bridge clubs in san francisco. Am travelling through San Fran and hoping to catch a game Thursday afternoon or friday morning. Web searches havent really helped. A good link would be appreciated. what is the most popular club in san fran ? Thanks Sartaj
  6. Hi guys, Tried purchasing some refills for bridge master today. Was surprised that there was no capacity to download and that I have to wait for the items to be shipped via mail. Any chance I can receive the content quicker ? Greedy, i know ! :) Sartaj
  7. Fred/Uday, Any plans for an iphone app ? Sartaj
  8. Hi folks, It seems to me that the opposition interferes over our strong club about 70 percent of the time. Consequently, our system should be designed towards optimizing those auctions. Am interested in suggested developments after interference, with neat twists and tricks. Also, do you distinguish between interference with no known anchor suit and interference with an anchor suit. Any link to a web resource would be appreciated . Sartaj
  9. The new vugraph archives are terrific !! Great work guys One suggestion is that the search function doesnt seem to work very well. "Sementa" and "hans" lead to a weak result set but "meckstroth" works quite well. Also, I got the impression that one can search only the latest records and not search within the "all matches" but perhaps i am wrong.
  10. I often go through vugraph archives at http://web04.bridgebase.com/vug/?C=M;O=D I used to go to google and type in a search for "vugraph archives" and it was the first result. This no longer happens. Could favourite the web address but I use multiple computers so this is not feasible.... Any ideas why this happens and if there is a smarter way to get to the id.
  11. Hi guys, Here are some recurring areas where GIB has shown weakness in recent money bridge play 1) Response to RKC : GIB appears to assume the higher number of keycards. It has happened often enough to cause pain in both the out column and joy in the IN column. 2) At the five level : GIB would be a far stronger player if there were just a blind rule to not bid at the 5-level or 6-level after partner's double. Especially in some auctions where stuff like this happens :: We bid hearts, they bid clubs, we pass out four hearts and the guy in passout saves with five clubs. We double but GIB now decides to roll out 6H !! 3) Ban redoubles at the five and six levels. 4) Running after a penalty double at low levels. GIB's alleged human partner is supposed to have bit more of a clue about what is going on at the table. If human rescues from a doubled contract, GIB often tries to play in the same denomination one level higher...... More or less, i think GIB plays fine. Its mostly the five and six levels where its causing some randomness. In declarer play, on some rare occassions, it does some completely bozo stuff (but i have already made a suggestion re: making GIB dummy in a different post)... Keep up the great work in improving GIB !
  12. Quite likely this has come up before, but one idea would be make GIB dummy and human declarer every hand (Or have a choice when creating a table to choose this option) btw, can one access the hand records of hands played during money bridge somewhere ?
  13. I think that in any bridge partnership there is an underlying tension. The tension covers ability, ego, temperament, behavior, compromise, self doubt. Sometimes, an event occurs which breaks open the dam and the deluge is too hard to handle in one hit. On other occassions, the tension grows with time and starts eating at one or both ends till it bursts through one day.
  14. I would choose 4H. We make sure we play a 4-4 spade fit this way. And if partner has only 3 spades, we play our best strain at the 5-level.
  15. Am starting to write a new bridge blog. All welcome to read and contribute.... http://theimpchimp.blogspot.com/
  16. I bet your partner noticed! I remember Tony mumbling something about leading a trump while we were waiting for score-up. He also said something about "surviving" which i didnt realize until i read this little writeup !
  17. Maybe its a function of "system complexity" that i was at the table (holding the long diamonds) and missed that declarer had stuffed up as well, until i read this post ! Btw, the only thing i found a bit annoying playing against this version of FP was that 1H = 7-10 any seemed to come up all the time and make things a bit awkward. We had no bad results from it. But we hardly ever seemed to be able to make an "opening bid"
  18. Gibbo may have done better by "supporting with support" my diamonds. And not taking my spade support too seriously... Hmm was trying to attach the lin file for the session but perhaps this forum doesnt allow attachments GIB had A87xx x KJxx xxx P 1H 1S 3D 3S 4S 4N 5C 5D* 5S * = 5D "self alerted" as queen ask. As pard i had J10,AKQxx,A10xxx,A Spades were 5-1, diamonds 2-2 and i almost cried  Anyways thought i'd try and post this hand as fred said in some post that you guys are interested in details of actual hands where gib doesnt do so great. I guess "solving" a hand like this one is going to be one of the harder tasks but good luck anyways :)
  19. I'm not totally sure that GIB understands the concept of "limited hands dont bid, unless asked to". This was evidenced the other day when GIB on its first go bid 3D (invitational in diamonds). Over that i chose 3NT and now GIB, since it had a super-max 3D hand, chose 4NT. If it had a "I've already limited my hand" flag, it shoudnt go through the "generate hands partner can have" phase and thus be programmed to automatically pass if partner bids game in our known fit/NT. Thats my suggestion !
  20. Hi Fred,Uday and BBO dev team, First a note to appreciate the great work you guys are doing. I watched heaps of the recent world championships on vugraph and its just so much more fun watching the action live, instead of struggling through the world championship books 10 months later ! I have a suggestion for the vugraph archives section. It appears that comments often overlap between more than one file if one tries to view a match later. This is quite a distraction if one is following the file , both due to the extra clicks one has to make to get to the next card, and due to the gibberish-style output in general. If you guys could look at fixing this some time in the future, that'd be awesome ! cheerio Sartaj
