  1. Hi, I'm a regular user and I have satellite internet, because that is all that is available out in the boonies where I live. There is a lot of network latency. I seldom have trouble keeping a connection once logged in. I have a lot of trouble connecting initially with the Flash client - i.e. I get "Connection Lost" messages 90+ percent of the time. With the Windows client I probably connect 90% on my first try. This problem has persisted through several Flash upgrades over the course of the last year and is independent of OS (I have W7, Vista, XP and Ubuntu machines and all behave the same). I'd like to switch to the flash version but need to be able to connect...any suggestions? Jeff
  2. I hope this is the right place to post this, my first forum post ever. GIB is generally very good. GIB gets the credit for imroving my declarer play by tearing me apart defensively. I even like GIB's bidding system. A couple of things keep happening, though, that I completely don't understand. First, an auction where I bid 1♦ (1NT by GIB), then 2♣ (2♥ by GIB), then 3♥, and GIB still thinks ♠Txx is a stopper and bids 3NT. http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer...8162-1252989001 Second, GIB will often take a preference to the 7 level over 6NT after a RKCB auction. It seems to be using the same algorithm as deciding when to play 3NT or 4 of a major. I had to go back a while to find one of these, because I stopped trying to play 6NT with anything resembling a suit fit. :D http://www.bridgebase.com/myhands/fetchlin...ayed=1251174601 But meanwhile, I've since gone down twice in 6 of a suit starting "missing Ace and a ruff" when 6NT was cold. GIB does lots of other interesting stuff, but these two leave me scratching my head. The 7 level problem is probably an easy fix. That's my two bits. I seriously enjoy this site and all the work y'all do. It may be worth creating a separate forum for GIB stuff. I presume Ari is still on board and I have certainly appreciated the recent GIB improvements (although I confess I still prefer "systems off" after NT overcalls to keep the opening bidder on lead). One potential benefit from the forum idea, is that many of us who GIB way more than is healthy would probably enjoy empathizing with one anothers' war stories. Jeff (akjxxx)
