True - I never turn off enemychat, maybe i do not have enuff enemies to do that, and forgot others do... ;) Now I understand why "yellows" should be contacted, but I still strongly hope players at least try to contact hosts of tourneys first. Hopefully 75% doubts dissapear and you get more private life... When you contact a host of whatever - tourney/bbo - dont forget the person may not be able to answer you during the next 3 min, wait a little bit. When you got turned off a tourney which will start during the next lets say 3 min , for whatever reason, I really doubt anyone will be able to let you play, even if the reason was a mistake. Clear up the situation later and enjoy next tourneys :P Greets, Marta

Sometimes it may be also a "bug"... As I do not have a stable IP, my IP changes everytime I log in to the net, I was turned off tournaments from my friends, of which I am 100% sure, they never would blacklist me nor my other nicknames. This looks like the current IP is too close to that of one blacklisted player. I usually log off, log on and a registration is no longer a problem. I would say, next time this message pops up - TALK with the HOST of tourney in question. I dont know if "yellows" have the entry on hosts contact lists - can they see that you are listed as enemy on Maaa´s list? I guess yes - BUT: 1. Is this "a yellows" job? How much time would that take... 2. Shall "a yellow" share these informations with everyone?

Much shorter bcs. not fully edited till today :) no more "wilkosz"-2♦, "we" change to multi... 1♦ allways from 4 cards... 4♣♦ no longer Namyats, natural in 05... Few changes in rebids and defenders bidding, a trend to natural bidding visable and of course the try to eliminate some weak sites of 2000. I am sure, once it is officially out .. we get a translation ... Greets, MJ

Arent some 2/1 pairs opening 1♦ with 4♦5♣ ? Well, I asked once a well respected ACBL TD if I should alert - the answer was, NO,bcs this is a frequent threatment of a big amount of 2/1 pairs, if then I shall alert the eventual 2♣ rebid. I do NOT know what the official rules are (acbl). Shall an Advanced player know the basics of systems in common use? No idea - but an AbaLucy Clubmember MUST know and also this hand, this disagreement comes from an AbaLucy PRIVATE tournament. Greets all :) MJ

The question I see prior is "Adjust or not adjust?", but i do not see the option for 'not adjust' in that poll :) Furthermore I do not understand why missed alert (and we miss it here for sure!) shalll automatically result in an adjustment? Is there a demage which occured? What would an alert change in opponents bidding/play? Correct - in bidding and play of the not offending pair! So, is there a demage ? "4) N/S apealed that 3nt is maded with information given with X, which can not be given if 1D is alerted." I would say if South really sells all NS values with this X, there may be one, but c´mon, i dont think this is the fact on this hand, so the double cant be the only reason why EW fullfill their declared contract. I would also let the score stand but in a real tourney EW would get a procedual penalty, what is inpossible today at BBO. This makes TDrs job much harder - it is now on him to find the golden middle in his ruling, not on the Laws Of Duplicate Bridge  Greetings, M.

As long as West was TWO times in the bidding. West took as actions 2♠ and 3♠, I guess over opponents 3NT and partners PASS even my cat would feel the psyche ;-) I do not understand why someone "misses the final double". Greetings, M.

Yes. On User profiles of course or do you speak about tabledescriptions (main bc ) ?

Thanks for the suggestions ))) ad 1: The translationsheet contains 1504 different words, sentances, verses. It is not as easy as it looks to translate as the relatives are not allways/most often known. I am sure this will be corrected in the offical version. ad 2: We could also type : "Ich denke es ist offensichtilich, daß ich alle restlichen Stiche abgebe" or similar, but during translating we have to maintain a prelimited number of letters, "Ich verliere alles" is simply shorter. ad 3: Would be fine too... (Aber nicht jeder Benutzer ist auch Spieler und vieeeeel zu lang ist das Wort nun auch wieder nicht.) ad 4: It is currently translated to: "Privater Chat. Status setzen - Rechte Maustaste." and not "Privater Chat - Status setzen - Rechte Maustaste" But your suggestion is really very nice, Thanks. ad 5: "... im Hauptbridgeclub.", "... im Club 'The Beginner/Intermediate Lounge" is due to the softwere not makeable, but will work on it. While I was working on the polish translation of BBO same problem occured. I think i have an idea how to solve it in a nice way. This will be : "Maaa spielt am mink´s Tisch. (Hauptbridgeclub)" I´ll need to use () as it is gramatically not makeable when a person is playing f.e. in the Beginners/Intermediates Lounge. ad 6: I think the difference between "Erfahren" and "Forgeschritten" is clear. I do not like your suggestion of "Durchschnittlich".. who wants to be "Durchschnittlich" (ordinary, average)? Maybe Anfänger++ (Beginner++)? ad 7: "Anfänger" and "Neuling" is same as "Beginner" and "Novice". If there is no difference between those , there is also none in english so lets make it german B) ad 8: Will search it... Thanks a lot for those suggestions, hope you find more !! Please let Andreas (ack_hh) or me know. Gruß Marta

Maybe - one day - we get the option to talk with partner privately - during we´r waiting for new rounds ? This would be the perfect place to do so <_< Marta
-
No, no, only tried to understand what exactly you meant <_< Thanks.

Lucky_dom: Do you mean the general , lets say " 3 min WARNING - please CLAIM asap ;-) " or single TDrs coming to your table and shouting to speed up ? Well if we are talking about the warnings - I´d refuse to stay away from them. I really registered, they speed things up - many players (including me, when playing) sometimes forget to look at the tableclock. So please dont take them personally - they are just a hint for other players and VERY comfortable for the TD. Oh it also makes the scoring more fair - not so many Ave- Adjustments. From the TD point of view I registered an enorme raise of unfinished tables @roundchanges, when I forgot to send out the warning. Thx, Marta

Maureen, When someone states/asks players to read CoC pre registering, s/he for sure loaded them , BUT... every change of the server lets them dissapear. You will register that the majority of these mentioned tournaments is added several days earlier to the shedule, so the CoC have lots of time to dissapear, without TDrs knowledge. Hosts not allways online and sometimes maybe simply forget to check if their rules still there. Greets, Marta

The European Union commissioners have announced that agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications, rather then German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty´s Government conceded that English spelling has some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phased plan what will be known as Euroenglish ( Euro for short). In the first year "s" will be used instead of the soft "c". Sertainly, sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also, the hard "c" will be replaced with "k". Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik emthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced by "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20 persent shorter. In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expected to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which hava always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful, and they wil go. By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" by "z" and "w" by "v". During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords containing "ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. After ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikltis and evriun vil find it ezi tu understand ech ozer. Ze drem vil finali kum tru ! -

LOL LOL LOL Had a look at the German link you posted, Clas.... well it sounds worser then the instruction for my wok. At least a great fun to read it!! Marta -
I am one of those who ask players and try first to give "time".... usually till the end of a round, later I am trying to chat with the left player more often, begging/forcing him to accept a sub. In my point of view a small percetange wants a replacement for partner immediately, lots wish to wait a few min. The majority accept a sub at some point - like you Gerardo, but there are a few which do not and leave ... Now at this point (and in the current "subsituation", what means as much as often we have 4-5 tourneys at the same time on BBO) we often just not have enough subs to replace 2 missed players. Additionally to this , orginal players (those who loosed connections, those who just left i see are replaced most often immedietaly - the partner usually knows what happened) return very often after 10-15 min. It helps very often to propose a temporaly sub - till partner is back. Players are happy and also lots of players from lobby offer such help, even point out, they will be only able to stay for x of boards and will need to be subbed out if org players not back till that time. So I think this is a much better solution then 10 sitouts or to run every tourney in the survivor movement. Of course i do not mean - seat a sub and kick her/him out just like that when no longer needed. Host/TD should have take the time to: announce, a temporary sub is needed ( if that is known before asking) or at least speak with the sub, if she/he dont mind to leave as the orginal player is back I reseated org players 100´s of times till today, and only one time i heard " I would prefer to finish", the majority was happy, they could offer help and can (often finally!! ufff) leave. Not to mention those subs who call me personally and ask to leave, bcs org players are kibitzing and they wish to leave. Marta
-
Yes! Terrific idea - different rules. It would be great to check out the reason why a SUBplayer leaves. If subbed out -> ignore! Intentional disconnect -> act! Marta
-
Yes I do. When I agree to help out, I need not to be necessarily happy with "my partner", but well, I am only a sub here.. the orginal player is back, wants to play, TD agrees, all are happy, but I get a ban ? Äää NO pls  I do not say, all TDrs should allow orginal players back. I think this is specific to the tournament, its rules. For sure Subs should be asked if they agree, not just bereplaced. But I really believe a person which offers help should not be penalized for this. Even if that are only 2 boards - often org player returns and even if not maybe in 10 min more subs avaiable and you helped out to prevent a sitout by that 10 min you spent. Greets and a huge THANK YOU - to all persons who offer their help, without whom we never would be able to run such nice tournaments ! ♥♥♥ Our "SUBs"!
-
As I have already posted in an other topic of this forum how thankfull i am about taking the work to bar disconnectors from tournaments ( it improved tournaments so much!), I must strongly disagree with the idea to ban SUBs. Expecially in longer tournaments it is sometimes better not to run the survivor movement. It is just not fair to get kicked out from a tournament after you played 22 boards out of 24, just bcs you loose your connection for 5 seconds. Now in swiss movement you NEED subs, but: 1. you(the host) do not have allways the time to explain a sub how much more boards are to play 2. a person wants help YOU, but is not informed about the real amount of boards to be played - you cannot force her/him to stay for 20 boards but you must be gratefull about any amount of boards the persons HELPS you 3. orginal players often come back - subs do not have nothing against leaving, as they only offered to help as long as needed - now you cannot reseat org. players, bcs the sub gets a ban ? 4. You as a player register to a tournament with your partner - lets say 20 boards - now you must play ( some TDs DO NOT ask if you wish to play with a sub or/and sub too early, not asking if player maybe only went out to reboot while he was dummy) with a stranger... and that stanger isnt also necessary happy with you ! Your partner is kibitzer.... and so on ... Please take off subs from this list and let us be thankfull to everyone person, which offers you help, also if that are only 1 or two boards ! And very often that are only 15 min, 20 ... someone can help. Before an other tourney starts... before dinner...

Exclude undesirables from your tourneys
Maaa replied to uday's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
Well, hosts share their lists already today. I do it with friends and i know lots do it, but there is a small difference. These lists are personal... when something like a standard list appears it will be official... here I see the danger, as i am sure that some players on this list will be by accident there, but "officially defined as cheaters"... It is too easy to get marked as cheater - It is VERY hard to get off the odour from that mark! On the other site - I think BBO needs something like a commission, experienced players who would look over series of lots of boards from suspected pairs, so we could effective ban cheaters from BBO/Tournaments, not just becouse someone had 3 suspected boards in the opinion of 1 or 2 persons. TDrs could report such pairs directly there, like they already today report to ethics@bbo... but not becouse of 2 boards or 3... every blind hun finds a corn twice, only in cases which are very strange and happen often. I also am gratefull for Udays work with players who do not finish tournaments, who disconnect intentionally. I think the 50% and one week ban (only from tournaments) is very fair ! In my tourneys i register, already after that short time this works, a very big improvement ! THANKS Uday ♥ -
Question about alerts policy on BBO
Maaa replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
As for today tournamentrules are made by host! Of course hosts try to follow some - prespecified rules, but when a tourney is clearly decleared as a lets say "polish" tournament - the polish bridge law appears not acbl or whatever. In some countries michaels is alertable in other not... However - I think Tournament Host should clearly announce BEFORE tournament under which laws s/he wishes to run the tournament in question. -
Thanks Barbara for all that ♥F♥U♥N♥ you shared with us ! Cu very soon - I hope ! Marta
