Windows client retirement feedback thread
camilleln replied to cuckoo5's topic in Suggestions for the Software
I wondered if you could offer the windows version with an annual fee? Wouldn't this be the same as allowing the ACBL premium users to continue its use? And, I know you suggested this was minor, but I personally do not like the graphics on the web client. If they were the same, I think you would get a more positive response to convert. -

If the bidding goes 1♣-1♥-1♠-4♥-4♠, the question I have is if the 4♠bid is a forcing pass situation? What about distributional hands with spade support after a preempt in which opener thinks can make 4♠ but only because distributional not because of any hcp values (i.e. 6 loser hand or better)
-
The reverse hand: S-5 H-KJT3 D-AKQT96 C-QJ I reverse with a 5 loser hand without the needed hcp or a 6 loser hand with 16+ hcp, this hand has a questionable doubleton in clubs, most likely worthless. If partner does not have a club stopper nor the A of spades or even S-Kx if rho has S-AQ, 5 D will not make. 3 NT is questionable as well with 8 hcp from partner if minimum. So, having no bid to default too, if 4d is always minorwood, it does not seem logical. 4d as an invitation to 5 diamonds (or slam) if responder has 10-11 + hcp, but with less being able to stop in a 4d contract which can make.
-
16 hcp + 8 hcp = 24 hcp, enough to be in 3n, or close to the 4 level game bid in a major. So where does opener go with 16 hcp and nothing else to say, e.g. no stopper in clubs, singleton spade (can't cuebid shortness in partner's suit), a rebid of hearts with an ace might look like a 6-5 hand. So, there is no other bid than 4d, invitational and responder can cuebid or bid 4n if all is stopped. However, if all stopped, responder could have bid 4d instead of 3d, which I would take as minorwood.

1 ♦ : 1 ♠ :2 ♥ : ? We play that unless agreeing to hearts with a 3 ♥ bid, anything else other than 2 ♠ would deny having 5 spades in our lebensohl agreements. Responder shows 8+ hcp. With this agreement 3 ♦ would deny having 5 spades. However, if having 6 clubs and 5 spades would it make more sense for responder to bid 2 ♠ or 3 ♣ in this auction with 8 hcp? It would be highly suggestive of a 6-5 hand since we can transfer to clubs and bid nt with a balanced hand? Thank you ....
-
The bidding goes: 1♦ : 1♠ : 2♥ : 3♦ : 4♦ I would not play 4 ♦ as minorwood since our reverse promises 16+ good hcp and our responder agreement promises 8+ hcp for a forcing bid (playing leb over reverses). Does anyone play 4 ♦ in this auction as minorwood? Also, if responder is strong, would his jump to 4 ♦ after the 2 ♥ reverse bid be minorwood? ... the 3 ♦ bid is available to any hand which is either weak or would like to investigate slam, responder's values are unknown other than 8+ hcp so opener will not pass and can still invite to 5d, cuebid or bid 4n. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you.

In our partnership, we have agreed to combine xyz and Walsh and therefore are able to show game force or invitational hands after a 1c:1d bid. Does this mean responder with 4 diamonds and a 4 card major can bid up the line with 4 diamonds, as can later invite with 2c? Thanks for your help.
-
If your NT range is 15-17 but you make deductions for 4333 hands by subtracting a HCP or adding a HCP with a 5 card suit, does ACBL want the alert be the actual HCP or the adjusted number? i.e. 14-17 or 15-17

On recently purchased iMac, with Parallels using Windows 7, Jack software can no longer import lin files. Pbn files are ok. Is there any relationship to lin and Java in their newest update. The error message when trying to load a lin file from bbo is "failure to load java" .
-
Then please explain the error message and what I can do to resolve it so I can bring in my lin files to Jack. When I bring in a lin file, it says "Failed to start Java" and will not insert the file into the table on Jack. My lin files work on my Windows side in other applications.
-
I purchased an iMac, loaded Yosemite, partitioned the drive with Parallels and downloaded Windows 7. One of my programs is Jack. I can no longer access lin files. When I try, I get an error message "Failed to start Java". So, I went online and downloaded Java. However, Jack will still not access the lin file. Is there a way to get Java associated with Jack?

When using the ipad app, I cannot see my friends or anyone else s profile anymore when clicking on their name. So when at a table, I have no idea what they play. Nor can I make anone a friend. I must have changed something but have toyed around with options and nothing seems to make a difference. Can anyone help? Thank you!

We have a convention we learned which allows opener to respond with a 3 card major after opening a minor and partner bids a major. This convention allows responder to ask if opener has 3 or 4 in the major and his strength by bidding an artificial 2NT. Responses are similar to Ogust, 3 or 4 in the major suit and minimum or maximum values. We are trying to find out more information about this convention. Who invented it? What is it called? What are the values and distribution guidelines by both opener and responder to use it? Example: 1C:1H:2H then responder bids 2N the artificial asking bid. Responses are 3C showing 3 in major and minimum points, 3D showing 4 in major with maximum points, 3H showing 3 in major and minimum points and 3S as 4 in major and maximum points.

Hi and thank you for your response. Can you tell me what you use for your im responses by opener? We play weak nt (12-14) too. Is the 2D bid asking? If opener shows a maximum by bidding a major, is that asking or telling?
