  1. Playing Teams in a Top Bracket Regional Event you have to make a lead with: Qxx xxx Qxx Jxxx The auction goes: 1D-1S 3C-3H 3NT-5S 6S-Pass
  2. I agree with the concern about GIB's bidding in these situations. I have seen many times GIB bid this way, and have made sure that when I play in Robot races I do not jump in these situations. If i jump to the correct spot (which this would be in a total point race) GIB corrects to crazy suits w/support or raises a level a large majority of the time. In not jumping I may not get to the right level, but still go plus.
  3. I had this auction with GIB. My side was Vulnerable, and was playing 1c a point. GIB ME 1S 2D 2H 2S 7S This got doubled and beat on an ACE lead. It seems like this has to be a bug since I think that there is just enough room left to check for controls.
  4. I agree with Jdonn 1D-1S 2H-2NT*leb 3NT Opener is a max and the hands are misfits. I have seen much worse contracts then this one, and its tough for Opener to stop on a dime in a suit on the three level with the opening hand. If responder passes 1D they could catch partner with: AKQ5 5 AKJ1076 K6 And miss a perfectly good game Or AK74 Q8 J1054 A54 Where spades is a much better contract, and makes it more difficult for the opponents to get to their heart contract then initially passing.
  5. Surprise: Two part question! Let’s say that South Bids stayman. The auction continues: W N E S 1C 1NT P 2C X P P 2D 2H P 3C ? What is your bid?
  6. Playing MPs with both Vulnerable in a Strataflighted A Regional Event You hold as South: 10843 Q64 KQ7654 -- The Auction goes: W N E S 1C 1NT P ? What is your bid?
  7. East West 1C 1H 1NT 2S 2NT 3H 3H 3S 4NT 5C 5S Passed This wasn’t bid on a computer since East responded with an insufficient bid on his fourth bid or the auction is incorrect. While figuring out how to show shape with the west hand is interesting, your hand is highly distributional and strong opposite a partner whose hand has been described fairly well. Partner has shown 12-14 HCP w/ 2-3 Spades and 2 Hearts. The west bidder should take control with this hand as they can easily figure out (visualize) what is the best contract via keycard after figuring out if/what is the best major suit fit. If you have agreements as to what partner will open with 4-4 in the minors you will know what shape partner has. West should never Pass the 5S bid. Blackwood and Keycard are conventions to AVOID bad slams, and to stop on the five level should the partnership lack the controls for slam. In this auction east is hardly asking partner blackwood with an aceless hand. In fact east should have a control rich hand. Hence, east is bidding 5S to protect against the (unlikely) situation that West has zero keycards. West must continue on. The hands may even make 7. (I would expect east to have the queen of spades to jump to 4NT over 3S more often then not.)

    Lead

Leading the AH is pretty dangerous as it can give declarer potential discards via void/ruff. I happened to lead the singleton diamond on this hand figuring if LHO was shooting out slam, then declarer would need to have a singleton club and a singleton heart in order to make via this lead (When the ace of hearts lead would have defeated the contract). As it turned out declarer did have a singleton heart and singleton club and made. What I was considering in retrospect, what about the lead of the Ace of spades on opening lead. This only hurts on hands where partner has the singleton king or the Qx of spades and takes away declarers guess, but gives the advantage of seeing dummy and knowing if cashing the heart is right. What do you think is the long run winning, percentage lead of those two: Singleton diamond or spade Ace?
