I would bid 3♠ here; show a v good hand, part still can bid 3NT with 2 stops in ♠. If he have values in ♠, no way for try slam in ♣ and even 5♣ can be v hard. If he dont have values in ♠, still we have some time to investigate slam, or, at least, to play 5♣

2♦ wasn't a good bid, with 17 hp and 7 cards ♦ he made a bid like he have 12 hp and 5 cards ♦. Better 3 ♦, this bid looks like an invitation to slam with a good 6 cards ♦ suit, in my opinion.
