  1. Thank you all very much! I'm starting to build my case now and it's much stronger thanks to all of your information
  2. thanks, i've seen the site but they are providing resources for teaching. I'm mostly interested in for example a list of schools where bridge is taught or a national curricula that says to whom bridge is taught to or some report that says where bridge has been taught in school and which were the results
  3. Hello! i'm looking to apply for financing for teaching bridge in the university and i'm searching (without much luck) for examples and best practices of using bridge in education. I know or i've heard that bridge is taught in Poland and in some schools in France and i think in Israel but i can't seem to find useful materials (in English or French) to prove that. Can you help me with such references from your country? Thanks
  4. Thank you all! It seems that indeed for the brown sticker definition it only counts the number of HCP and not the rule of 18 :(
  5. Hi! I've thought on adapting Wilkosz like this: 2♦ is any 5-5 (except both minors) + 8-12 (13) points. This could be both preemptive and constructive I know Wilkosz was banned because it was brown sticker. As i have read from the wbf regulations: "The following conventions or treatments are categorised as 'Brown Sticker': a) Any opening bid of two clubs through three spades that: ... i) could be weak (may by agreement be made with values below average strength) and ... ii) does not promise at least four cards in a known suit." Upgrading Wilkosz to 8-12 points will pull it out of the brown sticker zone because any hand opening this convention will have at least the rule of 18 (which make it a valid opening as far as i know). Is this assumption correct? Would this convention be declared valid? Who would have to declare if this convention is valid? Thanks!
  6. First of all thanks for the great organisation and for the great matches. Second, I have a suggestion if possible. Today at the first match the table with far the most number of kibs had 1200+, and the second table had around 400. This table had non-english commentators on bbo. Can you please ask for the star match to be commentated in English? Thank you!
  7. as i was interested in bridge for much less time than i was interested in football (soccer for some) i think this case is like when a player obtains a penalty kick by exaggerating a physical contact. he is congratulated by his side and booed by the opps. so if you're a fan of Meckwell you should congratulate them. If you're not you can talk about their lack of sportmanship (just as long as you in their place wouldn't have behaved the same)
  8. hi i'd like to play a friendly game of bridge in nice tomorrow (29 september) evening. i've sent an e-mail to a bridge club in the city and nobody answered yet. anyone here that lives in nice and would like to play? thanks
  9. i think saying sorry is an acknowledgement that what went wrong in the hand at stake was your fault and not partner's. this is not for counting how many errors each does but simply for discovering errors and avoiding them in the future and for maintaining a good atmosphere inside the pair. i think that if we don't acknowledge our mistakes this will make the relation between partners worse.
  10. The sanction made Helgemo (and the other players) uneligible for a Norwegian national team. However, Helgemo-Helness very early (prior to the incident), decided to play on the Zimmermann team in the transnationals, as did Balicki-Zmudzinski. i really think it is a pity that some of the best pairs in the world prefer not to take place in the most prestigious tournament. are the prizes and the sponsor money in the transnationals so much better than the prizes in the BB that they prefer to play there?
  11. Bermuda Bowl: QF: Brazil, Bulgaria, USA1, Norway SF: Germany, USA2 2: Netherlands 1: Italy Venice Cup: QF: Sweden, Denmark, Italy, China SF: France, USA1 2: Germany 1: USA2 Senior Bowl: QF: Poland, England, Australia, Italy SF: USA2, Japan 2: Indonesia 1: USA1
  12. also Balicki and Zmudzinski do not appear to play for russia. anyone knows why? are the new conventions cards posted online already?
  13. hi i've read recently in a bulletin of the recent european youth bridge championshps (pairs) that the rules/laws of bridge have changed and some announcements/alerts are not mandatory anymore (there was an example with the weak nt that according to that article shouldn't be alerted anymore) is that true? i can't find a relevant link to that. can anyone help me? thanks
