  1. The myhands interface provides static links to single hands (eg how the 4 players bid/played). However, it would be great, if you could link to the Team Match similarily. This link should open all the boards that were played. I remember that BBO used to have this option, when using .lin files (download results of Team Match / Vugraph). I would like to have the same thing online.
  2. The screenshot is here. Opera is a free software and available at Opera webpage. If developing web application, I suggest testing it not only with IE7, but also IE6, IE5, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera and possibly other common web browsers  Each browser has its nuances, how it interprets Javascript etc.
  3. I think I found why my handiviewer is so slow -- its my AntiVirus software, which is searching for viruses in Internet links. I am really sorry for creating trouble in this forum. PS. I also found, that with Opera 7.10 under Windows, handviewer image does not fit into the <inframe> frame, if ?s= option is used (possibly other combinations as well) -> this causes a vertical scroll-bar to be displayed in the bottom of handviewer image. But if only ?a= is used, then it is ok.
  4. My computer is 2.2GHz, and internet speed is 1Mbit/s. Loading of http://uperkuut.blogspot.com takes right now about 40 seconds. And most of the time is due to handviewer. Loading a single post without handviwer images takes 3 seconds, with 4 handviewer images takes 20 seconds. And speed issue is not only my problem. My friends (in Estonia) are experiencing the same problem. The ? problem is not a forum problem (for me), as I can type the URL into browser address line directly. Could you post a working link including auction with "?" (or describe how to modify the link to get it working, if forum eats some symbols)?
  5. Thank you, Fred, for your answer. Unfortunately I dont see any question mark if i click this link at http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?a=1s2hp?2s Now, there is no question mark between Pass and 2♠ (deleting 2♠ does not put the "?" for last bid either). My blog is at uperkuut (in Estonian). Recently some posts do not use handviewer any more, but previous ones do. I am sure something can be done to improve the speed issue (but it might require a lot of work, so not worth it). As I don't know the inner world of handviewer, i cannot tell, what is practical, what not. Also, I have no idea, why and where this 3-4 seconds per handviewer request is spent. My idea: Output .jpg image instead of flash for non-interactive requests. So browsers can cahce it, and reloading is (much) faster. (This is good whenever "inline" tag is used with height and width specified anyway. The height and width can be part of the image URL).
  6. I recently found handviewer is a great tool for including bridge diagrams in my blog. However, now I have about 10 hands and 1 full deal in the main page, it takes about 45 seconds to reload the main page. So my problem is that: Handviewer is slow! How to solve that problem? Is there any way to cache non-interactive handviewer images just like real images are cached? Or maybe it should be possible to get "real" images from handviewer? (I am not talking about interactive deals, where you show the full deal). Finally a request: There could be a '?' bid available to create bidding problems.
  7. Yes, Finnish is pretty close to Estonian. We are both using English version of BBO (BBOWin, BBOFlash). In my Windows, I use Estonian character set, but i don't think it matters much.
  8. j22lind: ä nigulh: ä ok j22lind: õ And my client freezed.
  9. 1. nigulh 2. j22lind 3. Yes, we use estonian primarily (there are some symbols outside 127-letter ASCII -- öäõü). And I think there might be something in the Mac font-encodings, as some symbols in my partners profile are also wrongly displayed. PS. I now managed to invite my partner to a tournament (she accepted), after BBO freezed. But no popup of invitation or her confirmation was displayed to me. I only saw myself in registrant list after logoff-logon.
  10. I am using BBOWin (XP), my partner is using BBOFlash (Mac OS). When she sends a private message to me, my client freezes. After that, I can send signals to server (e.g. request to sit down at table), but "waiting response from server" will not disappear, and I must logoff-logon again. The freezing does not always take place. But it is definetaly occurs due to my partner sending a chat to me. And it occurs frequently enough, that it is impossible to use the chat function. Has anyone else experienced such a problem?
  11. Every time open BBO, an error message is saying that BBO is not available in my language. 1. By definition of error, it should be impossible for BBO to continue. The process should be killed. Actually nothing remarkable really happens, everything proceeds as usual. 2. Is the warning really so important to be displayed EVERY time I open BBO?
  12. Why all people at the table must share the same score? If I am new at the table, my score could be 0, while the others have their previous score. Nothing else depend on the score. My suggestion: everyone has its own score and handlog. You can reset it, if you want (from the same table menu -- it should be available for all players). Thanks
  13. I suggest that there could be possibility to talk over BBO. In vugraph, for example, all commentators can make real commentaries (everybody else are silent, can only send messages to commentators). There could be a teaching mode, where the owner of the table (teacher) can talk and the pupils can hear it. The pupils however can send messages. There are similar applications (for different games), where live commentaries can be used. This is however a special feature and a standard user cannot be the talker (only hear).
  14. I run BBO on linux using cedega. Every once I see the following message on my console: 03e3: Protocol error: bad wait fd After that BBO hangs and I have to restart it. What should I do? (I don't have money to buy M$ Windows).
  15. Not sure, maybe a small bug: In a tourney, my p in N claimed, after declarer had played a first card of a trick from W. The claim was accepted. After that W seemed to have 12 cards, while his last played card remained on the table. HN
  16. I like BBO, I like Linux. Both of them are free. Both of them have commercial alternatives, which are almost as good. But these two do not support each other. Does BBO plan to deal with this problem?
  17. Richard Pavlicek has worked out a very nice formula to evaluate the distribution (or freakness) of a bridge hand. His method assigns every hand pattern (4333, 4332, ... 13-000) a number in the range [0, 20], which is called freakness of a hand. Obviously, the more freaky your hand is, the stronger it is. Has anyone thought how to add these points to the HCPs? If we want to estimate the combined value of N and S hands, we may well add their HCPs. The more HCPs, the stronger they are. However, we can't do the same thing with their freaknesses. For example, if N has a very distribution 7=6=0=0 and S has distribution 0=0=6=7, their combined strength is much less, than in case S has 0=6=0=7. Although in both cases the sum of freaknesses of the N and S hands is the same, the combined freakness if different in both cases, because the hands have a fit in the second case but not in the first case. How could one estimate the fit of two hands given their distributions (with specified suits)? Is their some nice formula that takes into account the distributions of the hands, length of the longest suit, voids & singletons etc? Thanks in advance Hendrik
  18. I am too lazy to discover all the tags myself. So I would appreciate, if you could just explain them to me. Please e-mail, or put them up here. Thanx.
  19. I would like to create .lin files. Could anyone explain all the tags and possibilities of the lin format? (Is there a help-file or something like that available?)
