  1. I agree to gwnn and am surprised that our opinion is minority so far in this forum. A reopening double by an 1NT bidder should be a take out provided that the level is acceptable to be so. In this example, LHO's 3♠ is still an acceptable level for me to play the reopening DBL as take-out. Maybe that's not the case if LHO bids at 4 level. Also, what about both opps' level-4 bid? I would think that in general, if reopening DBL of a 1NT opener is made in level 2, it is highly logical to treat it as take-out with the reasons explained by gwnn. Higher levels and both opps' interventions? Need agreement. A small note: I think the hand in this example is not suitable for a take-out DBL.
  2. I wouldn’t move on as South. But using your system (if I read it correctly), as North, I would upgrade my hand and respond 3C. If South replied 3H, I could push to 4H. If he took the captaincy, instead, I’d be glad to respond within an agreed upon method. Regards
  3. Playing Neg Free Bid: 1) 2♥ (Yes) 2) 3♥ (Yes) 3) 4♠ Not playing NFB: 1) DBL 2) 3♥ (Though N may bid 3♠ directly with 6-5, skipping this round) 3) 4♠
  4. I bid 4♦ too and my p takes it as NAT. Is there any compelling reason to play it as a fit-bid, instead? How could one describe such a hand? //Regards
  5. I also believe that 4NT would be natural here. Appreciate enlightment from those who say blackwood, though. Would 5♠ be an option?
  6. [hv=d=s&v=b&s=skjxxhaxxxxdxcakx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♥-(3♣)-3♦-(4♣)-DBL-(P)-4♠-(P)-? What's the plan for South? Notes: N/S do not play Negative Free Bid
  7. 1) 3♦ (Bergen), then pull P's 3♠ to 4♠. If he doesn't bid 3♠, I would be pleased to entertain P's slam-try. 2) 1NT (fcg), then 3NT. But I'm not a big fan of this method, as some of you pointed out, the wide range of 1NT (fcg) response can be tricky for many situations. I like playing 1NT (semi-fcg) and employ: 2) 3NT, 13-15, 3 card support BAL no 5 card minor.
