  1. The idea of excluding players that run and/or leave on the last board is a great idea. But the way they are doing it just doesn't work. I tried to register with a player in a 75% toutney the other day and he was blocked due to an "unknown" TCR. He hadn't played 10 tourneys in the last 60 days. This is not a player we want to exclude since he never leaves a tourney he starts. To give just one example - here in the United States if you sre an accoountant you probably won't play 10 tourneys in 60 day or in the first 4 months of the year. Accountants are all swamped doing income taxes during the first part of the year. The TCR should be used just for what it is supposed to do. Exclude players that leave. Requiring players to play a certain amount of tourneys in a given time should have nothing to do with this.
  2. When I open in 2♣ I am guaranteeing that I have game in hand. I will ALWAYS alert it as strong and may be artificial. Unless my rebid is 2NT showing that I have 23+ hcp, so I was too strong to open in 2NT, I will have at most 3 losers for a game in majors or 2 or less losers for a game in minors. With the exception of the rebid of 2NT, I never count hcp to open in 2♣. And if I am playing with a known partner they know it is GF. Wish I got to open with it more often :) This is why partnership agreements are so important in this game. With this hand I wouldn't be opening in 2♣ As an opponent it never hurts to ask what the bid means.
  3. Hi Fred, Somewhat along this same line, you did tell me once a long time ago that you were considering making the TD's chat a different color than the players. You said you had put it on the back burner because of all the other things you were developing for BBO at the time. When you say you are developing "some" things, you are the master of the understatement. Having been in BBO since its earliest days, I find it incredible how fast BBO has grown. And all the wonderful new things offered. I personally believe it is by far the best bridge site among all. The one thing I, along with all other TD's would really like to see is for our chat to be a different color. Even if it was just our sign in name. Possibly this might create programming problems since we play and TD under the same names? So many times I am called to the table and if it is for refusal to announce system and carding or failure to alert, or explain a bid, I many times feel like I am talking to myself. The player totally ignores the TD's requests. Even if we whisper to them. And if I have been called by an opp, I always ask them to stop playing so the offending party will be sure and notice my chat. I learned a long time ago as a TD that you may need brains to play bridge, but most bridge players online seem to be unable to read. Usually the first thing that alerts me to the fact that the offending team actually is aware of my existence is when they complain the opps aren't playing. Well, yeahhhhhhh. So the excuse of ignoring chat to concentrate doesn't work in most of these cases. Also in tourneys that allow chat from players (and kibs UGH) many times there is so much chatter going on in the tourney chat that when the TD says something, it just blends right in and most players miss it. So if it's not too much trouble, making TD chat a different color would be appreciated by all  Regardless of this, thank you, thank you for a wonderful site.
