  1. In Denmark a commonly used defence against Multi is called 'Meckwell'. How's that for irony?
  2. In case anybody else cares. The website is now updated with info for the 2010 competition
  3. Thanks a lot. I'll just be patient I guess
  4. Cheers, I can't seem to find any information on EBU's website on this years Spring Foursome in Stratford. It's only two and a half months away, isn't it? Anbody in the know? Thanks, Brian
  5. Hi I've played exactly those openings for a couple of years. I find it's working rather fine. I have toyed with the thought of swapping so 1C contains 17-19 without doing something about it. The transfers after 1C is one reason, another is that you have a much greater chance of right-siding 3N after a 1C opening than after a 1D opening. 1D-1N-3N is an ugly sequence. After the transfer, we have two ways of showing 11-13 balanced: Completing the transfer denies 4c support, while 1N shows 4c support. I play inverted minors as GF, even after 1C. I like the idea of swapping the majors over 1D. Only trying it out will tell whether it gets too messy when opener has diamonds with a spade side suit. Cheers, Mud
  6. I have 6 points, LHO has at most 5 and partner at most 11. That leaves RHO with at the very least 18 HCP. If RHO is an unknown, I expect him to redouble with that strong a hand almost always. There's something rotten.... I think there's a very good chance that partner did actually forget to open :-)
  7. Partner is clearly 5x6x. I have a monster hand apart from the missing aces. I would love to bid 4NT as whatever Blackwood variant we're playing. But unfortunately 4NT is natural here. Therefore I'm bidding 5♣ as a cuebid (it can't be natural since I didn't bid 4♣ over 3♠) If pard cuebids 5♦, I ask for aces with 5NT, else I just jump to 6♠
  8. A pretty obvious 3♠ in my view. Opp's only bidding to the 3-level and me having a singleton ♥ strongly suggests that partner has some ♥ lenght Therefore he most likely has a (semi)balanced hand with 19+ points. If I pass, he'll double again and then I won't know what to bid. If I bid 3♠ partner will be in an excellent position to judge correctly
  9. If I were playing a weak NT, maybe (just maybe) I'd downgrade it. If 15 points is in my NT range, I would never ever downgrade. Ever Opening 1NT is g00t
  10. If you hoover your mouse over your own score in the upper left corner, you'll be able to see the scores of Top Five. That's a big help I played my first Robot Race just yesterday, and what a welcome: Board 1: Opps bid and makes 7♠, -1510 Board 5: Opps bid and makes 6NT, -1440 I did not win.
  11. Welcome to the forums. You'll fit in nicely. ;) Wow, I'm an idiot. I misread the bidding and gave an arrogant answer. I'm sorry I was of the impression that I was in 3rd seat after 1♣-(1♠) and thought that 2NT was too little. Given the actual problem, I'll bid 2NT and pass pard's 3♠. And that I don't think it's close
