5D, with adverse colours and without a singleton (and at that point having no way to realize partner must be short in spades)...? And me thinking 4D would be more than high enough.... 2D.....2S.....4D.....5D P.......5S.....All pass

Everything Mikeh wrote :)

Sorry, could you explain what is "Kokish".... I know the man but I am afraid I don't know the gadget... And what does 4D show....? What does the partnership knows by now.... does 4D set trumps...? Which one?
-
1D......2C (usually normal)(can be a lot of things) 3C......3H (5+/4+, 17hcp+)(I had a nat. GF Club hand and cue) 3S......4D (cue)(cue) 4NT....5C (RKCB)(1 key) 5NT....6D (ask Kings)(Diam. King) 6H..... (Heart King?) (etc...) Opner can now count 13/14 tricks (1S, 2H, 5D, 5/6C) Not very scientfic but it works :)

Ah, nice :) I wish I knew how to work with that simulator.... still, I was under the impression that the gap would be greater....

humm... Lets try an average (more or less) holding for each suit: - pd holds 6 spades to the King > we have 6 tricks (over 90% of the times) - pd holds 6 Hearts to the KIng > we might have 5 (49%), 4 (18%) or even 3 (well, do the math...) Moreover, if we hold 6 spades, pd is more favorite to be short in Hearts, which has the potential do diminish our losers in that suit. If he holds 6 hearts, he is more favorite to be short in spades potentially diminishing our holding in that suit.

3H, no matter what I play :) If I held a 5th Heart I would bid 4H.

Is this what a 2C opener looks like these days...? Oh my :) North can't Pass 1S IMO.

I wonder what "crack" means in this context... was expecting something with more content :) Anyway, thx all for your contributions. I am truly surprised at the answers to the first question.... for me this was a clear Forcing Pass situation.... but I guess that has to do with what you "allow" the partnership to bid 5D with. This board was played in the portuguese national teams championship, and it also was subject in a portuguese Forum. It was one of the most "freak" combinations I have ever seen, with both making 12 tricks. RHO..........LHO AKxxxx.....Jxxxxx void..........Jxxxx Jxxx..........void Axx...........xx We...........Pard Q.............void K98x........AQ10x AKx..........Q109xxx KQ10xx.....Jxx Needless to say, those who Double watch it making +1. Those who bid 6D, watch oppos bidding 6S, being doubled and making. I was wondering if passing was a plausible action.

Teams-Imp's- All RHO......We......LHO......Pard 1S........DBL......4S.........5D 5S.........? Your hand is: Q K98x AKx KQ10xx Two questions: 1 - how do you play a Pass in this position? 2 - what do you do and why? Thx in advance.

I wonder if anything about Bridge is obvious.... :)

I guess teh Club finesse must work to make this, right? Well, the only thing I can think of is to play Club Queen after making the first Diam. in dummy (providing both oppos had Diams.). If RHO doesn't cover I let it ride and hopefully make, then proceed as written before. If he covers, then I don't have to risk the Diam. finesse coz' I have managed an extra entry to dummy.
-
Smal Diam. to the King and then finesse the Jack, cash the Ace and you are home B)
-
There ain't many ways to prevent me to score 4 tricks with my hand, so I Pass and count me to Pass again when/if partner's Double.
-
I don't know what the winning play is, but the percentage play should be something like: - win in hand. - Spade ace followed by Spade ruff. - Club to King - Spade ruff - Club Queen. - etc. If you don't manage to drop the Spade King you still have the change of a possible squeeze in the reds and/or a finesse in Diams. And that is why you should work on dummy Spades rather than Diams., coz' if you start with the Diams. then they may force your Spades when they are in with the trump Ace, and in the process you waste the needed entry to enjoy the spades (if the King falls 3rd).
-
Pass. (will have a hard to figure what to lead though) Pass. (will have a hard time to decide what to lead.... again!!!) Pass. (and glad that I don't have to lead)

1- Two options only as I can think anyone would bid anything else the 3N or 4/5D, nor would Double or Pass. I rate them 3N = 10 ; 4D = 7 ; 5D = 3 Partner rates to have something and all I need him to hold in spades is 10xx. Plus, it's Imps so I should give game a try especially vuln. 5D is the one I like less because I need a lot to make 5D, and I am sure MY pd will raise (or do whatever is appropriate) if he has that "a lot". 2 - I (and so is my pd) tend to be very sound with my 3 level minor suit preempts, especially in 1st seat. I will happily pass and defend. Don't consider anything else but I might rate Double and 4C for statistics purposes  Pass = 10 ; Double = 3 ; 4C = 1
-
Okay, I have already Double.... Does a 2D cue now followed by a 2NT suggestion (e.g. if partner rebids hearts) strikes you all that bad...?
-
ehehehe I was about to make the same conclusion.... I don't like to sit in auctions like this one, I tend to follow the rule (TO doubles are for take out) unless I have big reasons not to... One of those reasons could the be the fact that I am playing MPs and have to make some sort on "against the field" action in search for a good result. So, 2NT for me.
-
I risk a Pass...??? Which part of the "Game Forcing Opener" am I missing..? ;)
-
I rarely write in BBO Forum, although I have been an interested reader... but I have to say I am amazed... What exactly is lost by bidding 2S...? It is kind of funny really, to witness so many discussions about the importance of saving bidding space to make the most of it, only to find 6S can be the right bid after 2C - 2H (whatever 2H means).
-
And thanks all for the contributions. I was seating North and I think we were both a bit to blame. Yes, I might have pushed a bit and bid 3D right away. Yes, partner might have reversed. I went out of my "invitational" route and bid 3N coz we were playing teams, we were red and I valued two of my Jacks (and I am hell of a card player ehehehehe)

Thanks for your post. I am not sure how the methods could have turned this into something different... but I am always willing to learn so if you can give some clues why it works better that way I might change it. Anyway, the method here is devised as simple as it can ben and in accordance to what we have across the entire system - jumps bid specific hands and going slower give space for more hand types, so the jump to 3D is a 2 suiter and GF, while going through 2D, several hand types can be bid. In fact, after 2D - 2H, all bids are GF except 2S, 3D and 2NT.
-
"" and in case anyone want to ask, I anticipate the answers - 2D or 2H instead of 2C is a normal and nat. reverse. - 2D followed by a 3D rebid shows a two suiter (S/D) but not forcing. - 3D instead of 2D would be nat. and forcing. "" :)
