  1. In Howell I assign average== in all the rounds. In Mitchel if tables and rounds are equal I assign ave==,
  2. Hi all, I want to know one thing very clearly. why convention cards were displayed on the both sides of the screens? they are meant for whose whose reference? for screen mates or TDs reference?when a detailed convention cards were available on the both sides of the screens what is the problem for the player to refer into that?simply testing the memory of the player?or to get some benifit out of misexplanation if any?I beleive the opponents had a detailed CC on both sides and the bid 3S was clearly mentioned in the CC.I advice the players to come with well prepared CCs with detailed explanations and develope a habit of going through the opponents CC whenever clarification is required,if that particular bid was not covered in the CC then ask for written explanation. It is always better to do the first thing first!crying or shouting later is not the correct practice.when the weighted score was not considered[because td got a poll leading spade was a serious error] TD imposed 3IMP penalties to take away some 25% gains, is not justified in a knock out match? 3. Dummy — 1. Declarer’s partner. He becomes dummy when the opening lead is faced. 2. Declarer’s partner’s cards, once they are spread on the table after the opening lead. Declarer — the player who, for the side that makes the final bid, first bid the denomination named in the final bid. He becomes declarer when the opening lead is faced (but see Law 54A when the opening lead is made out of turn). so I feel any player may call TD. MBVSubrahmanyam. India.
  4. dummy is not decided yet as one of the options says declarer can opt to become dummy. MBVSubrahmanyam. India
  5. The TD determines the meaning of the 2D call [1N-2S-2D]. Law 23 applies. Law 16D & Law26 applies -An offending player withdraws a call. withdrawn call related to Diamond lead restrictions applies on Diamond suit, Related to any other one suit, restrictions applies on suit not specified-at offender's partner first turn to lead including opening lead. WD call related to more than one suit,Declarer may prohibit from leading one such suit, require leading such a suit, let the leader choose any suit. If the WD call falls under other WD calls- Declarer may prohibit any one suit as long as the offender's partner retains lead. MBVSubrahmanyam. India.
  6. Law 66D also applies along with 72B3. D. After the Conclusion of Play After play ceases, the played and unplayed cards may be inspected to settle a claim of a revoke, or of the number of tricks won or lost; but no player should handle cards other than his own. If, after such a claim has been made, a player mixes his cards in such a manner that the Director can no longer ascertain the facts, the Director shall rule in favour of the other side. Such player can be suspended for that Event/Tournament if TD beleives that the infraction was deliberate. MBVSubrahmanyam India.

    Law 25A

look at this and pass your comments. Hong kong NBO Date of Approval: 5th November 2008 Effective 1 Date: 8th November 2008 Announcement From: Board of Directors To: Tournament Directors Update of the Screen Regulations Dear Tournament Directors, Please be informed that there is a minor amendment with regard to the screen application. The amendment is stipulated in Section 26 of the General Conditions of Contest (Note 1). Amendment Section 26.3: Modification of the Laws when screens are in use A. An irregularity passed through the screen is subject to the normal laws, with the following provisions: 1. Law 35 applies in the case of an inadmissible call. 2. If a player infringes the law and, inadvertently*(Note 2), the irregularity is passed through the screen by his screen-mate; the latter has accepted the action on behalf of his side in situations where the Laws permit LHO to accept it. This includes the case of a Law 25B change of all. Explanation In accordance with Section 26.3 (A) 2, the amended regulation states that when a player (usually North or South as the case may be) who is being responsible for sliding the bidding tray under the centre of the screen, is unaware of the irregularity committed by his Opponent (East or West as the case may be), slides the tray to the other side of the screen, he is assumed to have accepted such irregularity on behalf of his Partner on the other side of the screen. Example: Insufficient Bid: West opens 3♥, North Pass and East responds 3♥. North does not aware of the irregularity committed by East and he slides the bidding tray to the other side of the screen inadvertently. North is assumed to have accepted such irregularity on behalf of his Partner (South) on the other side of the screen. Effective Date The new regulation shall be implemented from 8th November 2008. Note (1): The amendment can be found at page 27 of WBF General Conditions of Contest (www.worldbridge.org/departments/rules/GeneralConditionsOfContest2008.pdf) Note (2): otherwise Law 23 may apply. ------------------- MBVSubrahmanyam

    Law 25A

WBF code of practice reads:- Law25. Using bidding boxes a call is made when a bidding card is placed on the tray and released. When screens are in use Law25 applies as written.A purposeful correction is not allowed. MBVSubrahmanyam. India
  11. still it was not a played card! MBVSubrahmanyam.
  12. yes. agree. ruling starts after verifying the facts.
  13. I feel the bidder has not taken any advantage by partner's hesitation,Infact he had one extra keycard than shown,so his bid was not influenced by BIT. MBVSubrahmanyam India.
  14. Too late to change the call also UI appiles.
  15. Everybody knows that TD never makes the rules! He follows COC/scoc made by Technical committee. Many are comparing Bridge with Football,Foot ball Game continues even two/ three players are suspended, where as in bridge is it possible?many teams are four member teams,if one player is off what is the fate of the team?In this Game it is quite evident that ,if a player commits an offence in an Individual event He only gets punishment, In Pair event it reflects on that pair, In team event reflects on the team.I beleve that[in a team event] when the teams play uncommon Boards,Open room players are permitted to have a mini Break, But in any case Closed room players are not allowed to go out till the results are handed over. One thing is clear! Nobody is above LAW, If any player does not respect/abide the rules/laws, Laws will not spare him.Teams have to suffer for having such an indiscipline player in the team. MBVSubrahmanyam. India.
  16. I like this topic!:) in future I wish to become operator and commentator whenever I am not directing the Tournaments. my email id- muppallabala@yahoo.com MBVSubrahmanyam India.
  17. undoubtedly jack of same suit[!C] when the suit is not specified. MBVSubrahmanyam. India. Law46B3 reads:-3. If declarer designates a rank but not a suit (a) In leading, declarer is deemed to have continued the suit in which dummy won the preceding trick provided there is a card of the designated rank in that suit. ( In all other cases declarer must play a card from dummy of the designated rank if he can legally do so; but if there are two or more such cards that can be legally played declarer must designate which is intended.
  18. no offence here,Result must stand.11 cards in majors who will not bid?if anybody applies cue bid for both majors then also ground is prepared for sacrifies. 2nd board software might have adjusted the board automatically because of Time constraint. MBVSubrahmanyam. India.
  19. sometimes unexpected results are bound to appear! This is game of BRIDGE! just conform the deal from records. MBVSubrahmanyam India
  20. This is clearcut ruling of Law75. LAW 75 - MISTAKEN EXPLANATION OR MISTAKEN CALL After a misleading explanation has been given to opponents the responsibilities of the players (and the Director) are as illustrated by the consequences of this following example: North has opened 1NT and South, who holds a weak hand with long diamonds, has bid 2{, intending to sign off; North explains, however, in answer to West’s inquiry, that South’s bid is strong and artificial, asking for major suits. A. Mistake Causing Unauthorized Information Whether or not North’s explanation is a correct statement of partnership agreement, South, having heard North’s explanation, knows that his own 2{ bid has been misinterpreted. This knowledge is “unauthorised information” (see Law 16A), so South must be careful to avoid taking any advantage from that unauthorized information (see Law 73C). (If he does, the Director shall award an adjusted score.) For instance, if North rebids two no trump, South has the unauthorised information that this bid merely denies a four-card holding in either major suit; but South’s responsibility is to act as though North had made a strong game try opposite a weak response, showing maximum values. B. Mistaken Explanation The actual partnership agreement is that 2{ is a natural signoff; the mistake was in North’s explanation. This explanation is an infraction of Law, since East-West are entitled to an accurate description of the North-South agreement (when this infraction results in damage to East-West, the Director shall award an adjusted score). If North subsequently becomes aware of his mistake, he must immediately notify the Director. South must do nothing to correct the mistaken explanation while the auction continues; after the final pass, South, if he is to be declarer or dummy, should call the Director and must volunteer a correction of the explanation. If South becomes a defender, he calls the Director and corrects the explanation when play ends. C. Mistaken Call The partnership agreement is as explained — 2{ is strong and artificial; the mistake was in South’s call. Here there is no infraction of Law, since East-West did receive an accurate description of the North-South agreement; they have no claim to an accurate description of the North-South hands. (Regardless of damage, the Director shall allow the result to stand; but the Director is to presume Mistaken Explanation, rather than Mistaken Call, in the absence of evidence to the contrary.) South must not correct North’s explanation (or notify the Director) immediately, and he has no responsibility to do so subsequently. what system card supports that matters! That is the evidence. The TD should enquire for implicit understanding. LAW40B1b:- Whether explicit or implicit an agreement between partners is a partnership understanding. A convention is included, unless the Regulating Authority decides otherwise, among the agreements and treatments that constitute special partnership understandings as is the case with any call that has an artificial meaning. 21. Similar Incident occured in my recent conduct of a Tournament[ Board-a-match].6H makes from North side and goes down if south was declarer.NS play 5 cards major openings. South dealer opened 1C, north 1H, South jumped to 6H.opening leader sitting with an Ace, and his partner QJ10.Result 6H=. Interesting part was south had 3clubs , and 5 cards Heart suit. After the Deal finished EW called me and expressed Doubt on South's bidding. After an enquiry I ruled as: Table result cancelled, 4-0[6-0 sclae] in favour of EW and 2 mps Penalty for NS team and informed to the Regulating authorities about unsportive and cheating Bridge.[also recommended to deduct some master points] MBVSubrahmanyam.
