Good luck in your new job and welcome back in Holland.

♠J I try to find a save lead. There is no reason to risk a club lead from this holding into the strong hand. A heart lead could easily give away a trick. Two suits to chose from, ♠J is the safest.

I really like the 12-14 NT in a 2/1 system.

In the BBO robot forum North posted a complaint about his partner. "I show great judgement and bid the small slam, but those humans just can't control themselves!"
-
When you do that it shows a 18-19(20) NT hand; too strong for a 1NT overcall. You still don't have the promised shape but now you also show the wrong point-count. With imperfect hands try to tell the smallest lie.
-
I also play a 12-14 1NT opening, but our 1NT overcall is 15-17 to avoid trouble. So this hand is a normal 1NT overcall for me.

I play it like Helene, the lower cuebid is gameforcing and shows the fourth suit (clubs in this case), the higher cuebid shows support and is limit or better. Bidding the fourth suit (3♣) is 8-11, supporting partners suit is competitive. The cuebidding does not appear often. My somewhat selfish memory-aid for it is: "me first, then you."

In my system 2♠ would be a limit raise or better with diamonds. Does GIB play the same methods? I don't know. When you click on any call made by GIB is explains what it means. Easy, but don't be too disappointed when GIB's hand doesn't match the description, this happens sometimes.

The points are for both partners.

The psychology of avoidable mistakes

Never had a signature until now. -
When you play forcing 1NT you can bid that and 2♠ in the next round, unless of course p shows hearts as a second suit. This makes is a little harder for the opponents to find their fit. Without the forcing NT I see no alternative to pass. You would not mind to play 1♠ if they let you.

Partner cannot touch the 5♦ bid, I heard him bidding spades twice, he knows that. Helene is right in her comment that this hand should blast 5♦ in the first round, let them make the last guess.
-
I agree that 4NT would be silly :D
-
Welcome to the forum. 5♦ is a good save, probably down 1 or 2 and it's likely that 4♥ makes. I would do it on equal or favorable vulnerability. When even your partner gets disgruntled you might try to make faster decisions, but thinking is allowed. :)

Mostly normal but splinters are useless. The robot wil never act right on a splinter. Does Lycier already know about this threat?

I made a mistake in the BAM table, corrected now. The total points you have played by adds to my confusion. Apparantly Patton has many variations.

Our club has organised a Patton tournament. This is a great scoring for short team-matches, so it enabled us to play 10 rounds of 4 boards. Preparing for the tournament I found a conversion table on the internet for 4 boards like this: IMP | VP 0- 3 | 4-4 4- 7 | 5-3 8-11 | 6-2 12-16 | 7-1 17+ | 8-0 The scoring program of the NBB (Dutch Bridge Association) however uses a different conversion table: IMP | VP 0- 2 | 4-4 3- 6 | 5-3 7-11 | 6-2 12-17 | 7-1 18+ | 8-0 It seemed obvious to use the NBB conversion, that's what we have them for don't we? The BAM score was easy: 0-20 | 1-1 30+ | 2-0 0-10 | 1-1 20+ | 2-0 But someone suggested to change that to 0-10 | 1-1 20+ | 2-0 0 | 1-1 10+ | 2-0 Now I'm wondering if there is a standard for Patton scoring and where can it be found. Or is Patton just a guideline with liberties for the tournament organisation? Corrected BAM scoring

Well, south is the hand with the void and that's a big plus, but there are so many red suit losers. I would pass, we have some hope that the preemptive bidding has forced them into the wrong contract. It could be the wrong suit when partner holds the missing clubs and it could be 7. Who will tell?
-
I see no problem in taking advantage of the opponents mistakes. Is that not where most of the bridge scores come from? The rules tell us to let the TD decide instead of judging it by yourself at the table. But in this case I can see why you feel you should have punished yourself for not cashing that ♣A, punishing partner in that manner might work out badly.

Most hopeless / clueless comment?

Vary your pace of play and you will always win :) -
Basketball coatch suspended after unsporting win
dicklont replied to helene_t's topic in The Water Cooler
Youth sports is not only about winning, but also about learning and developping as a player. The winning team could have tried several options to make it more like a training game. Leaving one player on the bench and play with four, chance to a tactic you don't normally play, force players to pass or score left handed. I wouldn't know what to do, but the self imposed handicap should be something you can learn from.
