  1. Hi all. I have 2 questions. What is the standard treatment after an opponent doubles your BW or RKC response? For example Opener LHO Responder RHO 1S P 3S P 4NT P 4D Double ? Question 1. What does opener's redouble, pass or a bid mean in this situation? Question 2. Are there any other meanings that are superior to the standard approach? Thanks.
  2. It seems that it is impossible to cheat in these and other gib tournaments because 1) No kibitzers are allowed, and 2) You cannot chat with any other players in the same tournament or even post any messages to the tournament. Because of this, I feel it is a much fairer test of skill if everyone plays the same set of boards. I am always frustrated playing in these gib tournaments because if you don't have the cards it's very difficult to win, let alone do reasonably well. I realize that I've seen previous posts mentioning that the better players will generally do well in the long run, but I tend not to play in them because contrary to what a lot of players think, these gibs are awful bidders and players. There would be more skill involved (in adapting to the bids and plays of the robots), than luck, if the boards are the same for all the participants.
  3. I've never read any of the world championship books. I'm curious to know if they teach you anything about the newer bidding and lead conventions. Do they cover them in detail, or do they just skim the surface? I'm willing to start with one year, and am wondering which years do you recommend I read and why? Thanks.
  4. This thread is fantastic!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of it! Keep up the incredible work!
  5. Thanks all. It's very instructive. What is meant by 1-3-5 and 1-2-4?
  6. This is great! Would you be able to elaborate more on these bidding sequences by giving examples? eg 1♣ - 1M 2♣ and 1♣ - 1M 3♣ How would these differ from standard methods? Thanks again!
  7. Can't seem to find this anywhere. Does anyone know if there is a lead table for 3/5 leads? My questions: 1) Does it only apply to suit contracts, or NT contracts also? 2) Do the leads apply to spot cards only, or with one honour, or non-touching honours? So with KJ73, what would you lead? If you have 9876, do you lead the 7? If you have J98732, what card do you lead? How about Q 10 8 6 4 3 2? 3) Is 3/5 leads best played with some other carding systems? For example, Journalist leads, Cincinnati etc. Does anyone know of a reference, book or article, that explains this in some detail? Thanks.
  8. When someone says their bidding is based on the Kaplan-Sheinwold system. What does that mean? And how does that differ from the Roth-Stone system? To me, it seems the two systems are very similar, so I don't know where the differences are. Thanks.
