  1. I agree.... it is a support DBL.... and to the comment that follows the 3♦ was not an over-call, but a preemptive raise of opener bid
  2. How do you interpret the following sequence (opps passing) Playing 11-14 NT you 1♦ pard 1♠ you 3♦ 15-17 HCP unbalanced invite to 3 NT ? with balanced hand rebid would be 1NT Pard 3 ♠
  3. This was quite a while ago, so I could have been down only 2 or 3 (there were 5-6 ♠ with the opps) against 6♦ making. But my question was :shouldn't 4NT opener be Ace asking ?
  4. Holding a hand with 7 solid ♦ and 4 solid ♣ and 2 singletons, I opened 4NT .... GIB with and A and a couple of Ks... PASSED... down 4!!! Isn't 4NT ace asking ?
  5. During a MP ACBL Robot Ind Turney My Gib Pard bid 3♦ after my 1NT (15/17) opener, which evryone plays at least as INVITATIONAL to 3NT. Holding AJxxx of♦ I bid 3NT : dummy came down with 10 hcp including a STIFF K ♦. I think this should be corrected.
  6. Happen to have a good 10/11 HCP hand w/ 6 nice ♣ in a 1-3-3-6 hand, so I bid 2♣ after partner opened 1♦... could not stop partner's bidding and ended up in an unmakeable contract. I claim that 2♣ after a 1♦ opener should not be treated as an absolute GF.. thus proceed with caution ? :)
  7. One of my recurring ZEROES comes from landing on an unmakeable 3NT after a minor suit opening and inverted raise or delayed raise by partner to 3 of the suit. Usually 2 balanced hands in the 24-26 point range. Showing stoppers or asking for stoppers works most of the time, but way too often the stopper is too thin ... gets dislodged quickly.... and down we go. I heard/read somewhere that an alternate method is to ask for shortness (or show shortness) to find the fly in the ointment and stay away from 3NT and maybe settle in 4 of a minor (YUCK! :) ). Any ideas ?
  8. I believe in light openers in third seat, but not in psykes .... unless you have an understanding... which is illegal... you could get burried if you find pard with a 10 count against a part score by opps
  9. Can't see value in anything else but 3♦... let partner know what you have NOW
  10. Thank you all for suggestions and comments. A combination of asking for shortness or "stuff" seems to be the best approach to me.
  11. I normally use "help suit game tries" (HSGT) after a typical single raise 1M-2M although it could be after a Bergen raise of 3♣. Some partners are more comfortable w/ short or long suit game tries. Some partners find the HSGT confusing as they don't know what my holding in that suit is, e.g. xxx ? KJx? Qxxx? and what THEY should consider to be their required holding in the suit to raise to game or not. Any advice ? thx
  12. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=skjxhakqjtxxdcxxx&s=saxxxxxhxdaxxcaxx]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] We had some trouble with this hand after (opps passing throughout) 1H-1S 3H (supposedly invitational ?) ... now what ? 3 S ? 4 S ? 4 H ? 3 NT ? Assume S bids 3 NT , North bids 4 S... given the 3 H invitational can South move towards slam ?
