I hope the website http://www.bridgebase.com will reflect the new BBO logo on its website when the new upgrade kicks in. Uniform branding helps. I am sure Fred & co. will not overlook this. This new logo only appears to be only for BBO and Bridge Base Inc. retains its old identity, I suppose Regards Godwin

This doesn't seem to be a problem with 4.1.0 only. I have 4.0.9 and I noticed today that many of my friends were missing their flags. However I noticed this just now. I am not sure if this problem existed earlier. As I moused through the Lobby Player list, I estimate that 25% of the players were missing their flags. Godwin

This is Good News. Finally the right marketing moves are being made. Logo is an important aspect of the branding process. Godwin

Hi Rain From what I have observed, the few people's names that appear in the pull down menu of the Chat box are those from whom you have received a private message or those to whom you have sent a private message. Probably uday or someone can confirm this. I presume they must have done it this way, so that you don't have to scroll quite a bit, if you have to reply to a private message from a friend after some length of time. Selecting from pull down menu is an easier option. Godwin

Is there any way I can attach small files to these messages on BBO forums, so that BBO forums members can download them & use them. If not, is there any other way to share files with BBO forum users other than by sending email. Your suggestions welcome. Godwin

The help file on Minibridge has this to say I couldn't test this out as I couldn't get 4 people to sit and try it out I was also unaware of this Minibridge option.

When you edit a constraint settings, save it as a separate file. You can save any number. Try this and maybe your problem is resolved. Godwin

And open offer to the BBO Community
Dwingo replied to hrothgar's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
With the initial help of hotShot, I am finding that OKScript is pretty easy to use. If it is easy for me to write these Scripts, it must be child's play for most of our computer experts. I dont know the implications of Freeware or Otherwise. I downloaded it and I didn't pay for it. From the application I find this mentioned. With the little experimenting that I have done, I can now send out automated messages to Lobby, Both Opponents, Tournament ( while playing Teams) and I have also created a Macro to ask for subs in Lobby ( for Teams matches) giving Team Name & No and also wishing your partner personally like gl Dick & ty Pat. One thing, I am still not able to do is to direct these messages as a private message to a person. Then this will be a great improvement. If anyone knows how to do this, I will like to hear about it. After a while I will post the Script and others can improve on it . Godwin -

Yes, an external applications to automate the repetitive customised chat to BBO applications can be extremely beneficial in many areas. 1) Sending a slightly lengthy message on the system and carding that you play at the beginning of each round in a tournament 2) Having a set of standardised alerts for the system that you play, especially for non-Natural systems. 3) It will be very useful for bridge teachers to chat to their students, especially on to comment on same hands to different groups of students. Now I know, OKscript is extensively used in OKB. There has been some discussions about this on this BBO forums sometime back. I remember vaguely seeing a post on rgb that some one had tried this with the BBO interface as well. I downloaded OKscript and gave up as I have no software experience to use this for BBO. I some how felt that this maybe better than Remote Keys, if some one figure out how to send the chat command to the BBO chat space. Irrespective of which is better, if some volunteers who have experience in these sort of things can test either of this and spoon feed others , then it will make life easier for a lot of people on BBO. I wish all the people who are going to experiment with this all the success. I can help in a limited way in testing, if I am spoonfed to some extent on how to use this. Godwin -
With card animation and sound turned OFF, had a crash again. This time, while playing Team Match. There were 2 withdrawals from the Team match and the match was anyway collapsing. Before I could see the automated message saying that the team match is being closed because of too many withdrawals, my client crashed with the NetbridgeVu error. When I relogged in immediately , the Team Match had indeed been cancelled.

Once again crash occured NetbridgeVu error. This time I was playing in a Tournament and I had the Lobby view "ON" and I was quickly moving the mouse on the names of the different players, this crash occurred. I am on Windows98 and I get the feeling, the crash occurs when the mouse is very quickly moved and as you mouse over different names, the system is not able to handle the data it receives at a fast speed.

I am not sure , if this is a good idea. It wont take long for the spamsters to take the log in ID's and append a yahoo, hotmail, gmail, aol, etc and I am sure many of them will turn to be true e-mail addresses. There should be a compelling value in releasing this directory to the General Public.

Moved to 3.9.8 from 3.9.6 today and after probably after 2 hours of total play ( 2 or 3 logins, maybe), I had my 1st crash with 3.9.8 The error that I had is copied and pasted here This happened when I was playing at a Table in the Main Bridge Club, my RHO just left the table and my LHO , who turn it was to play a card was not responding ( probably he was lagging) when the crash happened. Sound Volume was muted.

Got NetVu error after I closed client by clicking "x". Wonder why I got this error after I close this application. I was in a hurry to leave and i remember make a few quick mouse clicks to exit
-
Hi Fred I posted my message within 5 minutes of my last crash. The time & date on my post will give you the time as per your local time. Since I have set my Forums pages to show my local time, I may mess up convertig to your time. Between the last crash and now, I was logged in BBO for atleast 5 hours and I have not seen this happen.
-
I am on 3.9.6. I dont have the white screen problem, hence did not go to 3.9.7. In the last 2 days, I have had 3 crashes with 3.9.6, the message I get is a NetVu error. I have never encountered these type of crashes earlier, only now after I upgraded to 3.9.6. I am not able to correlate the crashes with any specific activity, but the 3rd time it occurred, was when I was moving my mouse over the different titles / Team lists in the Team Match page. I relogged again and tried the same activity and now everything seem OK. There is randomness and hence can't say what is causing it. I had a couple of websites open, when this crash happened. No serious CPU activity.

You can try a free demo download from http://www.bridge-centre.com/eng/index.htm and check this out. This is not free. I have not used it but appears impressive -
Continuations after 2C (intervention)
Dwingo replied to mr1303's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
I thought it would be best to refer this to the Expert consensus found in Bridge World Standard bidding 2001 found in the www.bridgeworld.com website Quoting from BWS Competitive Bidding methods Would be interested to know, if Experts really played it is this way after 2C intervention. -
There is a sort of consensus that a playing TD cannot manage a big event. If this is so, then it might not be a bad idea to limit the No. of tables by the software, once the TD playing option is selected. Also have some constraints on not been able to select time of less than 7 minutes per board will help keep the No. of adjustments to the minimum, when TD is playing Now the tourneys have been Up & running for quite a while and I am sure these feedback will help Fred & Uday to fine tune these things.
-
I dont want others to know, whether I have marked them as a friend or not. Any group messaging option in the hands of everyone is 1st step towards spam.
-
Another work aroundwhile playing Tourneys. Clicking on the "Table" button on your right lists out the players in the tourney with the compass positions, sorted out by Table numbers. So finding out where you are is not so difficult.
-
Well, while experimenting I found a cute work around to this problem. Use the Yellow Gear to modify options. Check the "Annotate cards" check box. See what happens and you know where you are at the Table
-
Interesting & Out of the Box. hrothgar, whats your take on how the results will be calculated/tabulated with people getting ON & OFF the moving Indy Train

Thanks Ron for your clarification How is this relevant in the Online context?
