  1. Hi all, As a creator of http://bboskill.com I want to explain some issues... I can see you already have some info about it: it's not a BBO's tool, it uses BBO's MyHands and it's not perfect. And it would never be. More you think and solve one problem there'll be 2 new problems. For now service has 3 obvious major problems: 1) Players who play with weak opponents are experts and world class 2) Really strong players who play only with friends, also strong players are advanced, intermediate or even lower than that 3) It gets only 1 month of period 1) and 2) There is a correction based on partner's and opponent's strength. The only problem is I have really small database for now and I don't have at least one monthly result for each player. I think it would be more than rude to torture MyHands server with some scrap scripts, so I am only sending and storing requests that users make. Well, that takes time. For correction I came up with this calculation: (-partner+opp1+opp2)/3 for each board played (I don't think it's perfect and I need to test it). As I don't have many results they are 0,0,0 divided by 3 or 0,0,0.3 divided by 3 is only 0.1 and too many zeros lead to small correction. How would this work, time will show, but with good database correction will be big factor in calculation. I've tried to protect top class players. They often play under 200 hands monthly and usually with friends and only several different players. If we imagine closed group of world class players, who only play with each other, someone will score under zero. There is no trick I can represent their real level and rating correctly now. Correction will do the job, but only if big part of them play with other, regular players and they score like 2.0 imp/board. So, I am making my list of famous players around the world. Some of them are on the list, some not yet. When I calculate correction against 'protected' players I take their real score if it's bigger than some my, imaginary number, and if it's lower I take that number as a score(like +1.0 and protected world class player can't go under that for calculation of corrections ) 3) I store all requests made by users. After couple of months I'll have some timeline and rating will be more accurate. Myhands won't allow you to take longer period than 1 months and that's it. I am simply limited to work with that. Basically I am aware of all problems, and more and deeper you think even more problems you'll find. Just think about: GIB hands, TM ("Why is my fault when my team mates go down on 6♠ where they should claim easy 12?"), "I play only MP's. Is that transformation you make to imp correct?" and many others. I look at this site this way: -It's made for several days with very limited resources -It's much more popular than I expected, so it's not complete "rubbish" as many love to say -It's great for some purposes I thought it would be mostly used: e.g. discover "world class" player in individual tournament in front of you with -2.0 imp/board or make fun of your friend because he is only advanced and you are expert (Some of my friends already told me they stopped fooling around and they are trying to play more seriously. Some of them told me they feel more competitive now. For me they all look much more like 7♦ last days ;) ) As long as people don't get it too seriously, there is no danger. Marko Gligorijevic
  2. Maybe we could remove top 2 and bottom 2 results for them too... Of course, their result stay, so remove the next two
  3. Recently I've played the hand which is quite normal... Bidding, declarer play and defense were good, anyhow possible results were 3♦= or 3♥-1 and leads to -110 or -100 for my side. Neither side can't make any game, the board was quiet at many tables, but... One table played 7NTXX-12 on opps side. That makes my perfectly normal score very, very bad. Actually I missed the game there! Do you have any ideas how to solve this, because it makes scoring funny sometimes? My suggestion is to exclude some of the top and bottom results, and then calculate cross-imp as you were before. So, instead of 16 pairs, maybe 20 should play the board, exclude 4 results and calculate the cross-imp. Otherwise, you are in this situation: -Always when your opps make something (anything!) you'll lose 2-3 imps. ( There was a board where i lost 3.5 imps where opps made 6nt. They had 38 pts, and 16 tricks on 7nt. And -3.5 is because 3 pairs played on second level) -One angry player can ruin the results for everyone on one board I'll be gratefull if you at least think about my words. Thank you for making wonderfull playground for us :)
  4. I'm writing this for the last time. There are a few big 'holes' in software: 1) When I am the host of locked table I don't see my 'edit notes' for player when player requests permission ( mice hole ) ;) 2) When I create table and choose the type ( Total points, Rubber, D.Imps ) I cannot later change the type ( rat hole ) <_< 3) Default font shows small 'L' same as big 'I', so there is possible to create two nicks who looks exactly the same. When you get a private message you cannot know who sent that ( delve ) :( 4) When declarer leave the table I can claim ALL TRICKS and software will accept the claim. This affects all cross-imp calculation, which is very ridiculous without it ( crater ) :D
  5. I think there is enough space to show results in two columns, if that is a problem. Let's calculate 20, and show 16 results, with top, and bottom two - out. Look, I don't know too much about XIMPs, but I'm convinced we can improve it on BBO. It's still same question: why I'm losing 3-4 imps on board where opps made 6 with 38 hcp?
  6. Maybe I was not quite clear... I wasn't talking just about this funny claim. I'm talking about all results on BBO. did you noticed that you are never bad if you made six? with 38 pts??? always two pairs plays 1 club or something like that. On other side, there are some pairs which made four where I was proud on myself for making two, and I'm not such a bad declarer. I just suggest that we should count score with 2 or 3 or ,I don't know how many results, overruled for general aperture
  7. Sry for my bad english, but i hope you will understand... You should try this: in the middle of the hand you are recieving message : "Goodbye, tralala... to tournament." Claim all yours. CPU will accept it. Now you can see your result of 6NT-9, and result will make 6NT= sooooooooo goooooooooooood, when there is cold 7NT. There are players who are beginners, and they should play, but some players suffer big injustice because of them. If we 'discard' 2 top results, and 2 bottom, we will get better aperture for calculation. Thanks to all people on BBO for effort to make us satisfy
