  1. Today I watched the live "vugraph" of the Chesss World Blitz Championship: http://video.russiachess.org/browse/index/day/23 (the stream start at 14:55, games at 15:00) of course there was traditional board vue sites too (onsite/chessbase/chessdom/...) I wish we could have that for brige too
  2. Adventures in cards play (Kelsey/Ottlik), difficulty 6.
  3. According to Nikos Sarantakos the 1996 spingold (http://www.sarantakos.com/bridge/vugraph/1996/1996-spin.html) was one of the first event transmitted via Internet. This was not real live vugraph, PBN files were posted after games finished. Bridge Plaza was the big publisher of early vugraph files. I think e-bridge was the first really live vugraph site. There is an interresting article about early online vugraph by Jude Goodwind-Hanson: (http://www.greatbridgelinks.com/GBLArchives/GBL010803.html) with responses from fred, romik (e-bridge) and Ginsberg (at the time GIB included disputed files from e-bridge/bridgeplaza).
  4. Under Chrome 7 or Explorer 8 it is barely readable (Macbook pro 13" windows 7). That said I find south bids reasonable, 5S, pass over 6C, he was trying to preempt H.
  5. Congrats. How did Brad make 7H on Board 20 ? Someone revoked ?
  6. Was anyone watching at the other table who can give details? In the room where the original event took place, there was nothing relayed to the BBO commentators about an irregularity at the other table. It was board 6, Rosenblum R32 segment 3 Closed Room WEST NORTH EAST SOUTH Zimmermann Pellegrini Multon Camberos - - 1NT Dbl 2D! 2H Pass 4S Pass Pass Pass West bid 2d transfer but it was nat for North & East
  7. Vugraph archives are at: http://www.bridgefederation.ch/2010/wtc/index.html
  8. Vugraph is already available to the iWorld (But maybe this wasn't what you meant). www.bridgebase.com/mobile doesnt work any more on my ipad yvan
  9. "Talk to people better than you" is not a good idea. People better than a beginner, calling themself experts, are usually quite useless, they will teach you wrong things. Better read good books, classics like Kelsey are the best.
  10. Strange tounament. Acording to the bulletin nr 3: "the Bulletin staff don’t understand the scoring either" seems it was simply BAM (Board a Match) played in 3 phases 1) BAM Pairs (BAM Teams, but mixing pairs every round) 2) BAM Teams (Normal BAM Teams) 3) BAM Individual (BAM Teams, but mixing players every round) BAM is almost unknowed outside US but should be no problem for top european players, it is close to MPs and most of the european players do play in prestigious US events (Reisinger ...)
  11. I dont see how a committee would help. Is it unethical to make (poor) wild & gambling bid ? RECORDING such events may help.
  12. How are ACBL Presidents elected ? "Madame la Baronne," said I, loudly and distinctly--embroidering each word, as it were--"j'ai l'honneur d'etre votre esclave." The Gambler Fyodor Dostoevsky
  13. the bulletin page is at: http://www.eurobridge.org/competitions/10O...d/Bulletins.htm (eurobridge instead of eurobridge1)
  14. last board: http://www.eurobridge.org/competitions/run...ard=020.19..819 croatia won 12 for 289 VP wales won 12 for 290 VP hungary won 12 for 290 VP latvia won 12 for 290 VP latvia on tie-break
  15. I enjoyed watching vugraph on my iPad, but finding bridgebase/mobile is not easy, there is no link to it on the BBO home page. Two things are missing in the interface: - "other room" button - "scorecard" function and button There is plenty of room for adding more (prev hand, next hand, ...)
  16. Stange idea to broadcast the SB and ignore one or two BB QF.
  17. There are no direct money prizes for achivements in the BB. Maybe particular national federations or their sponsors pay bonus in case of success. B-Z resigned from the national team after +- 20 years of playing. Many in my country get away with criticism and judgement on this, forgetting how much these both players have done for Polish teams and development of the game in Poland during past decades. Robert I also find it a pity that so many of the world's strongest pairs are missing in the BB - but I don't meam that as a criticism of H-H or B-Z. Just as a regret that the most prestigious world championship isn't even the strongest tournament taking place this year. Which tournament was stronger ?
  18. Can't happen, but maybe you're just trying to get credit if either end up in the finals? Neither will sweden or france reach the QF. (or maybe france will, Guadeloupe is playing)
  19. No idea for the VC & SB but for the BB I would say: 1. China 2. Italy 3-4. Netherland, USA 2 5-8. Bulgaria, Norway, Russia, USA 1
  20. Exotic systems are dying. They were born 50 years ago with the "Little Major" of T. Reese. Nobody play HUM anymore because it is not allowed in qualification/early stages. Who would play a system you cannot practice anywhere ? In Killarney (1991) we had fun playing against two strong pass systems: Suspensor & Carrotti. We also played against a modern version of the "Little Major" with relays (dont remember the name of the system, was played by a swedish pair). Is there a censor free country left ? (SWE ?, POL ?, NZL ?) yvan
  21. If that is true (and I have no reason to doubt it), doesn't that mean we should worry more about - playing more events with screens, - not sorting our hand or hiding our cards, - enforcing "don't talk about hands during the session", and worry less about banning cell phones and delaying vuegraph? bridge without screens is not serious bridge yvan
  22. strange vugraph attendance: 300 watching "A" final 1700 watching "B" quarterfinal yvan
  23. Another problem with their system is that it is made for teams. At mps a good pair gains from declarer play / defense when they play the same contract from the same side as the field. (of course it is not allowed to play two systems at the same time, fantnunes vs. strong opps, standard vs. weak ones)
