Exactly that's what I thought. I bid the slam. partner shows up 3 spades, 9xx. LHO cashes Ace of hearts returns something. I finessed the Q and lost. LHO had ♠Qx :) I wasn't sure I should bid slam knowing missing an ace and trump queen in this situation, I wanted to check..... if partner had 4 spades, do you still finesse? Could you give us partner's hand? So far we can estimate he has ♠9xx ♥length ♦A and some cards ♣A and some cards. Doesn't seem like a great takeout double to me and it doesn't seem like he had a pass of 3♥x partner had 964 , K94, AT3, AKQ7 . yes it is not a great double. initial 2nt better?

the first book I read was "How to Play a Bridge Hand" by William Root. I had liked it, it was clear and organized, lots of examples. I can't compare with other books though.
