I've kind of forgotten about it, but you jolted it back into my memory. It's over, what more is there to say?
-
I'm probably going to try it out with kueh and see how it goes. This could be a good addition to PC.
-
I second that.

Mike, what about 1♦-2♣?
-
I would bid 4. No, I would not bid NT. If I had to choose someone, S.

Which is why one of my regular partners refuses to read into any tempo by the opponents, and when someone hesitates for a long time, he usually types something like "lagtest" just to make sure it isn't a connection problem.

That, or what happened to my partner yesterday while we were playing a tourney: His mother decided to conduct a fashion parade in front of him.

"Clear" cut pass 2
Rossoneri replied to firmit's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Don't see how double helps things. -
Agreed about the double. What's wrong with 2♠? Pass seems reasonable...

I think I've done worse. =) Granted, I can understand your POV as a kibitzer when the "fog of war" is lifted from your eyes...I get that sometimes too when I kibitz my friends.

GIB's double dummy analysis
Rossoneri replied to TimG's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
You can just open the saved hand (.lin file) in the NetBridgeVu.exe and choose the same option as when you're kibbing (GIB -> Show double dummy analysis). However, this only shows the analysis for the hand as it was played. If you want to see a different line, you can load the .lin into a teaching table and play the hand out how you want, doing the same thing. Yup....troublesome but works. -
Not surprised that a Scandinavian country nicked it. Maybe one day I should find the chance to visit Denmark. I had a great impression of Finland.

Yes. High school math teams as well. I second that...most of my other friends are considered the maths-y kind as well... What about promoting bridge for couples? I know some might find it crazy, but it might just well work.

Yup, used the macros there for my first set of bridge notes. Seems like TeXnicCentre is popular for Windows users...I downloaded the proTeXt package which came with it, so I'm using it as well. Sorry to those who felt disappointed!

After some grappling around, I finally managed to produce my first proper document in LaTeX. And now I am wondering why I didn't discover it earlier. I spent half an hour on it, including looking up commands that I am still not used to. Same document would probably have taken me nearly an hour to produce in a word processor, not to mention grappling with Mathtype to produce all the fractions. I'm pretty sure there are a few other LaTeX users around as well?

Interesting. No one was completely innocent of course, and I am not saying Richard was completely right, but the fact is of course that the opponents started the gamesmanship first, and so, could easily be sanctioned by the aforementioned 74A2. Perhaps Richard could have used more tact with the director (especially) and the opponents. I think the fact that the event has ended up with two finalists leaving them to conduct their own finals is perhaps more appropriate to the title!

I don't think West asked too much, I can easily think of a few expert players I know who would probably ask twice as much =) South was really making that kind of inference at his own risk.

Good question. Any idea what the WBF would class it under? Red Even if you have 3 different systems based on vul and/or position? I remember seeing some italian youth pair playing prec and 2/1 based on vul, but that's the most I've ever seen. (It was red)

Good question. Any idea what the WBF would class it under? Hmm, how important would the considerations of letting opponents into the auction and letting them in when they would not have been in be?

1. c 2. c 3. b 4. b 5. a 6. Usually not, I assume partner knows what he is doing. Only if it doesn't seem to fit his bidding will I ask. Besides, I am sometimes taking a mental break when I am dummy. 7. At the club, I let him take it back. In a serious even,t I call the TD 8. a 9. b. Usually I would have already alerted. If the opponents ask if they can discuss, I will usually allow. 10. No.

No kidding. Any history as to why the US has such an election system?
-
Why must we "obviously accept that"? Should we passively accept all irrational decisions made by bridge administrators or should we seek to lobby and persuade such individuals to change their point of view? If not then what are you going to do about it?

Many players don't know the rules. I've fallen prey to something similar before and all I could say was well done to the opps. But yeah, this really tops it =)

Over the shoulder...
Rossoneri replied to KungFuChkn's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
From your wishlist, I've read two books: Killing Defense at Bridge and Card Play Technique. Both are excellent books, especially the latter. I passed a copy to one of my partners who was rather rusty, and within the month I noticed a lot of improvement in his play.
