I notice a problem with comments in French in the *.lin files. French special characters (é è à ô ç etc...) are twice UTF8 encoded instead of once. The cause : the comment is encoded in UTF8 once. Good. Then down in the process the UTF8 text is taken as an ASCII text and encoded in UTF8 ! This double-encoded UTF8 is, of course, unreadable. a sample : é in UTF8 is $C3A9 instead the .lin files has : $C383C2A9 that is exactly UTF8 encoding of $C3 + UTF8 encoding of $A9. (same problem with ü, ö etc... in other languages). another one : ’ = UTF8 $E28099 the .lin files has : $C3A2C280C299 !!! look in BB-QF1-FRANCE-CHINA 2017 at : choisissent l’équipe qu’ils instead of choisissent l’équipe qu’ils... and a wink at Walddk2 in BB-QF1-SWEDEN-USA2.lin : his reference to his Häxen has been converted in Häxan...

During the vugraph show we didn't receive correct information about how Hegelmo played the 6NT after Zia won the first trick with his Ace of spades and played a club. Have you information to share ? Did he finessed the 10 of hearts ? Did he squeezed North in hearts and clubs ?

A few points of view in my basic english : - I enjoyed very much the Vugraph from Shangaï. Many thanks to BBO and congratulations for all the organizers. - I only watch super high level bridge matches. I will not give players' names here, but I know what I mean. I can't bear watching lower level bridge and I consider it a waste of time for me. -My pet peeve is multilanguage. I am totally opposed if it is not on a special channel. First thing a bridge kibitz should do is learning basic english before giving his time to bridge.

I mean when a match is between Europe and another country, like during the present Warren Buffet Cup vugraph. There is a flag for USA, and no flag for Europe. You may look at this file, for instance : http://bridgebase04.bridgebase.com:81/vug/...losed%20EN5.lin In that case flags are chosen by the software. It seems that they have no flag for "Europe". In the different case of an individual player, which european player will choose the UE flag instead of his own country flag ? I imagine that very few, until long (and of course none from a european country out of UE).
