The interesting thing about the challenge is the comments you can read from the experts. They explain why they prefer certain action, and usually more than one expert will point at details you might have not even thought about. Last month, for example, there was: ♠A8xx ♥QJx ♦AKx ♣753 And the auction had been: 2♠ - 3♥ - 3♠ - ??? Most experts chose to bid only game. Yes, partner intervened over a weak bid, but most of the 4♥ bidders claimed that the 5 level was not safe. This is not a beginner's concept and I bet many people knew about it from reading it in their comments. If an éxpert' chooses the low road, then you can feel represented when you underbid. If most experts decide to bid higher thn you, pay attention to their reasons. And I don't think results always dictate the scores in the challenge. Sometimes the experts will be very optimistic and the real hand proves to be a disappointment. Just as in real life ;) You can check the comments by Marc and me on YouTube before deciding what to bid:

Language is very important to bridge. And Bridge is a social game, not a globalization tool. If you don't like your government or country just put 'other'.
-
Is that a good idea?

I would certainly open as North. Many people would. Even 4th hand can open citing the rule of 15 :)

Against Whom Have You Played?
Hanoi5 replied to Winstonm's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I played against Agustin Madala once he partnered the (at the moment) future president of Argentina, Mauricio Macri. -

The bidding continued and after consulting the Director rolled the result back to 4♠ making, instead of the 2 downs doubled the contract reached at the table went. Do you agree with the ruling?

Unfortunately a lot of work is involved in analyzing bridge data. And it is even more difficult to find reliable data on the internet. Can you trust vugraph archives 100%? I don't think so. I had some archives from Hamman and he appeared as B Hamman, R Hamman, Bob Hamman, Robert Hamman and a couple more I don't remember and that's just the name, how can one trust the spots played to each trick?

How do I know my opponent for the r32?

I would like to play.

I'm not sure this is enough. There has to be some exemplary disciplining of culprits. Take the case down here in Chile. In 2014 a banker was discovered to have funded a right-wing party with money he was not allowed to use. A couple of months afterwards the daughter in law of the president (who is left wing) was found to have acquired a MASSIVE amount of money in a loan from a bank the day after the election. Next the 'newspapers' uncovered that the toilet paper producers were colluded in order to raise prices. Supermarkets came next, they inflated the prices of chicken and some emails demonstrated that they coordinated this. But nothing really happens after each of these scandals. People continue their lives after the outrage, just waiting for the next big one to fall. Corruption has permeated society to the bones. Makes me Wannacry.

What can these doubles mean?
Hanoi5 replied to Hanoi5's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
P (P) 1cl (1he) P (1sp) P (1nt) 2cl (x) Small detail. Sorry for not checking before publishing. -
Doubling in competition can lead to problems when both partners are not in synchrony. I found these doubles problematic: P (P) 1cl (1he) P (1sp) P (1nt) P (x) How would you play such a double? What would you expect doubler to have? 1di (2di) P (2he) 3di (3he) P (P) X How is that double played? 1sp (2cl) Pa (2sp) 3he (X) Partner showed 11+ with support or 13+ without support. What is the best meaning for such a double?

I recently missed a slam and kept wondering what's the right or best approach on these situations: a.- (2♥)-4♠ b.- (3♥)-5♦ c.- 1♣-(1♠)-2♥-(3♠*) 5♣ *Pre-emptive
