  1. An adjunct question: If your partnership passes with the first hand in 1st / 2nd seat, how light do you need to protect in 3rd / 4th seats? with all 9 counts & most 8 counts?
  2. Applying pressure here seems right. I probably bid 2♠ only. Bidding 3♠ seems to have several ways to lose (esp. with this shape): - go for -50 or -100 when 2♠ par - go for more than -100 - push opponents into making game they would not otherwise have reached - induce partner to misjudge auction These seem to outweight the benefits of bidding 3♠ (depending of course on partnership agreements).
  3. I post the problem because partner holds: ♠KQT9xx ♥--- ♦Axx ♣AKQx Perhaps 4♥ is trivial obvious in 2nd seat ... how then should the auction go after P-4H-P- ? probably a lot easier after 1H, 3H, or even pass to get to 7♠
  4. [hv=d=w&v=b&s=saj5hqj986543d5cj]133|100|Scoring: IMP West deals and pass to you (North).[/hv]
  5. I would tend to double ... I have some defense against 4♥ and if partner chooses to pull the responsive double, I have reasonable support for 4♠ (if partner bids 5♣, I guess I will bid 5♦)
  6. I play all jumps as fit jumps with several of my partners ... I thought this was sorta standard but maybe not (or at least maybe not on the auction 1M-3m?)
  7. 4♥; the additional chance that opponents will misdefend suggests bidding 4♥ with this hand.
  8. OP, are you looking for a deterministic answer? (if so, ignore this ;) ) Given that responder knows his partner's (limited 1M opener's) hand within a much tighter range, it seems like it would be useful to adopt a mixed bidding strategy: - e.g., with an invitation hand with some likelihood of a misfit, one might pass 30% of the time and bid on 70% of the time ... - e.g., with a weak (0-8 hcp) hand but fit, one might adopt a mixed strategy of preemptive raise/ simple raise/ forcing raise/ psychic bid.
  9. I am trying to gauge which systemic questions go in this forum as opposed to other forums. If choose one of the first four options, please suggest a value for N. (e.g. does the system have to be moscito? or do normal 2/1 but with multi-2d questions belong here as well?)
  10. i am interested in reading the 52 pages in your notes on this ... do you have a link?
  11. mostly i was wondering if there is anyway i can avoid bidding 6♥ here ... partner has KJTxx Axxx KQJ x ... 6♣ and 6♥ both off one. based on results of poll, i guess 6♥ is pretty normal
  12. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=s2hkqjt96dat864ct]133|100|Scoring: IMP N E S W -- -- -- -- 3♣ X 6♣ ???[/hv] What agreements do you have in these situations to help inform your decision?
  13. For better or worse, we play 1♦-1♠-2♦-2♥ promising 5+♠, so I guess 1♦-1♠-2♦-2♥ is out of the question with our methods. Yeah not many people play what I suggested. Playing 1♦-1♠-2♦-2♥ as art. GF, how do you show weak 5♠-4♥ hands? With what type of hands do you think the 2♥ art. game force gains? loses?
  14. For better or worse, we play 1♦-1♠-2♦-2♥ promising 5+♠, so I guess 1♦-1♠-2♦-2♥ is out of the question with our methods.
  15. [hv=d=n&v=e&s=skt82hk9dkj865cq9]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] Auction to you: Partner deals and open 1♦; RHO passes Assume you play 2/1 with inverted minors, fit jumps (inv+), and have an agreement that bidding 1♦ before showing a 4cM shows extras. Couple questions ... a. What do you bid? b. If you are constrained to have bid 1♠ first time around, what do you bid on the uncontested auction 1♦-1♠; 2♦-??? c. If you are constrained to have bid 1♠ first time around, what do you bid on the uncontested auction 1♦-1♠; 3♦-??? No need to respond to b. & c. if you think the hand should not have bid 1♠ first time around. Thanks in advance, Greg Ingolia
