  1. 1. Pass 2. Abstain (alternatively pass) 3. 3♣, x close 2nd choice 4. 3♠, definitely not 4♠ IMO 5. 3NT, x not so distant alternative 6. Pass, wtp?
  2. I agree with Mike on keeping it simple, but not being stupid. 3♣ over 2NT is very obvious, and very simple. Over 3NT I prefer a raise to 4NT over a natural 4♣, but this is close.
  3. I'd prefer to bid 2♣ over 1♠ with 3442, exception for a very good diamond suit. Never had this agreement in a regular partnership though.
  4. Easy 3♥ IMO. I've been playing transfers here by opener (2♦ instead of 2♥), where responder easier can distinguish between different strength by just giving preference to 2♥ or raising. This hand would of course be a raise to 3♥ anyway, but a little weaker hand could just bid 2♥, knowing that opener still would have a chance to make another bid.
  5. Dropping?? With the possibility of finessing both ways, any competent declarer will finesse west for the ♣J, knowing the suit is splitting 4-2.
  6. Peter quoted the relevant law. Whether it is "apples or oranges" doesn't matter - it IS law. "Without pause for thought" refers to what happened from the moment the 3♣ bidder realized his mistake. Which often is later than the moment the bidding card is placed on the table. So if the bidder discovers his mistake before his partner bids, and at once corrects the mispulled bid, the correction is ok.
  7. Lol, Norway in the semifinals? I will bet that you have no chance at that wine in that case! edit: Ok maybe that was unfair to norway, but no helgemo helness and no aa molberg is very sad :) Brogeland is the best player ever though so who knows! Even without HH and Aa-Molberg we have a team I think will advance to the KO stage. If so, we might beat any team, but just as easily lose to any team advancing from the RR. Agree that the Netherlands, Italy and USA2 (in that order) seems like the best teams though.
  8. Partner told us that we're unable to kill dummy's heart entry, nothing more. We've got to evaluate what to switch based on our hand, the bidding and partner's lead. Declarer will, in time, get five diamond and three heart tricks, we need to set up three tricks before declarer sets up his diamonds. It looks like the best shot for that is clubs, so I'll switch to my lowest club.
  9. It's not like doubling isn't dangerous, you have to weigh in the possibility that LHO might redouble. He's probably short in spades too, for this sequence. I'm going to pass, but it's close.
  10. With a passed partner our chances for game are relatively low so I might have started with 4♣ to maximize the opps guessing. I am passing and hope I figure out which ♣ is best to lead LHO bid spades first, you're partner is on lead. I'm doubling now, my partners make good leads.
  11. Easy 1♥. You're style is too sound if you have to pass this - you're giving your opps a free ride far too often.
  12. Choosing between 5NT and 6♣, I'm going to settle for 6♣.
  13. The sanction made Helgemo (and the other players) uneligible for a Norwegian national team. However, Helgemo-Helness very early (prior to the incident), decided to play on the Zimmermann team in the transnationals, as did Balicki-Zmudzinski.
  14. Even for a light 1-level overcaller like me, 1♥ looks pretty stupid. What's the point? And for those talking about 2NT - that's ridiculous!
  15. 2NT lebensohl, not good enough for 3♣ vs a balancing double.
  16. 2♥. Looks like we'll have huge communication problems in 3NT, the most likely spot if I rebid 2♠ or 2NT. And I don't like my hand that much either.
  17. 1♠ for me, keeping it simple. Can't see how this can be nasty, after all I've got support for hearts... Even playing SJSs (I don't), I'd not do it here. Never with a second suit which could be our best trump.
  18. You can't call this a balancing DBL? No, it seems like a balancing double is defined by americans to apply at low levels only. Then again, if I define this position as low level..... You can't call this a balancing double because of position not level. Balancing doubles mean you have the option to end the auction but don't. Ahh, that's what happens when one doesn't read the OP just before making replies. I thought the auction was 4♥ P P right till this moment. Sorry guys!
  19. Usually plays: x=strong balanced 3m=t/o with longer/stronger corresponding M 3M=natural 4m=55+M, 4♣ stronger than 4♦
  20. You can't call this a balancing DBL? No, it seems like a balancing double is defined by americans to apply at low levels only. Then again, if I define this position as low level.....
  21. 76% is correct Did you read the question?! Ahh, I overlooked that question indeed.

    Go Han

    Nicely done - congrats!!
  23. Let me see: Partner showed support for my suit (not a support double, but anyway) Partner could have asked me to lead another suit Partner doubled for penalties And I'm supposed to have a lead problem?
