  1. Match Points, competent partner. What action do you take now as West and why? Thanks all. [hv=pc=n&w=sakq32h32d32ckt32&e=s4hq94dakqjt4caj4&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=p1dp1sp2np3cp3dp3sp5dp]266|200[/hv]
  2. Of course you'll have a bad day with hands like these :D I'll X (neg. in your methods)and bid 4nt over partner's 4S. My guess is you tried that and prd. gave you aces over 4nt (that's why it ended as a bidding problem here). There is no stopping now, so might as well go 6nt over any response. Another idea would be be pass initially; on a better day, prd., marked with D shortness will reopen with a X and you simply convert to penalty and take the $$.
  3. OK, prd. hand was: KQx-xxx-10xxx-AKx At the table, prd. passed opp's 5♣ with the above hand. Thinking prd. can't have much ♣ strength for his pass, I tried 5♦. This was not a success, and it got hit by the 5♣ bidder who had: xxx-AKQ-void-QJ........ Down 2 ;)
  4. [hv=d=n&v=b&s=sa98xhj98xdakjxc10]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] So, playing teams, Prd. opens 1♦ as dealer ("standard") and it goes: 1♦-(P)-1♥-(5♣) P-P-P-? What is your action and why? assume v. competent prd/opps Edit: as someone pointed out, it's P-P-? (all pass to you)
  5. The fact that you don't see a unanimous view among the posters suggests that this is a good problem and not a boring one. I would X initially as I want to involve partner with such a good support in all 3 suits. One can build hands where a minor game/slam is cold, but harder to get at after a 2♥ overcall. The bigger problem for me is choosing between 2 and 3♥ after prd'X. The likely wasted K♠ argues for 2♥, but the strength and 5th ♥ argues for 3♥. I really don't have a problem with the auction given up to the 4♠ bid. I'd hit it with the W hand on the principle of taking a smaller but likely plus instead of gambling for a larger plus by bidding more.
  6. [hv=d=e&v=n&s=sj4hj98dqcaq107432]133|100|[/hv] Prd. in E opens 1♦ and it goes X to you: 1D-X-? Your plan? If scoring makes a difference to you, let's say it's MPs.
  7. I'm going againts the flow here with 3N.
  8. I would rebid only 2♦ as N; not really against 3♦, but if p. can bid again, I'll be way better placed. My plan is to show ♥ support after anything prd. bids, including 3nt. This has to show a distributional hand with extra values. Prd, looking at his prime values, may well be driving for ♦ slam via some Q-bidding starting with 5♣.
  9. Wow; this sounds like a lot of work :)
  10. 1) A bit too little for a takeout X at the 4 level. It may work allright, but it may also turn a likely small plus into a big minus once doubling starts. If I was looking for a top and didn't mind a bottom, I'd X; otherwise Pass. 2)I'd win 1st trick in hand and play a low ♦ at T2. If that held, I'd pull trumps and play the Q♦ from hand again. If the initial small ♦ loses to the Q, I should be still in good shape (unless loses to Qx, ♦ return to A and a ruff....curtains)
  11. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=skq98hqj62dak108cj]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You have this hand as E @ teams. N deals and it goes: P-1♦-2♣-X P-? Assume X is a normal 7-8+ point with 1M hand. What's the mainstream meaning of a 3♣ bid at this point ? 1) GF and asking for a club stopper for NT 2) simply looking to get to the right M and not GF 3) GF with both majors How do you think 3♣ should be best used on this sequence? Thanks all
  12. 1) I got burned many times taking the "pure" opening action of 1♥. Enough is enough... I guess  2) Yes to a 4♠ bid at this junction to show the 5-♠suit, regardless of what 4♦ was. Not only it completes an accurate description of the hand, you simply can't go wrong with it, leaving responder armed and in control.
  13. Nobody likes being in 4♣. But bidding on feels wrong here as prd. would almost certainly have responded earlier with an ace. I pass reluctanlty and hope to make it.
  14. [hv=d=s&v=e&n=s10h98532dkq65c765&s=sakj753hkqda3ca98]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] 1♠ - all Pass Made 4 easily. What do you think went wrong?
  15. Hey Miguel, it's been a long time; how u've been/ 1) if the opps. were clearly sacrificing, I think pass after 5♠ would be forcing and X would imply 2 spades. Given their 5♠ vuln. bid, things are not so clear now. It would not surprise me if 5♠ made based on some wild distrib. 2) I hit it now, no sure thing, but like it more than bidding on as my hand has only 1 ace and Q sp. wasted. I need to try to get max. penalty (who knows, mbe we'll get it 2 down) for my team, and I'll back my judgement with a X.
