Dealer: North Vul: NS Scoring: IMP ♠ AT6 ♥ KJ632 ♦ 4 ♣ J964 West North East South - 1♥ 3♦ 4♥ 5♦ Dbl Pass ? here indy acbl tourney with my p has profile as expert. I recognize I bid 5h because the night before (see board 2 I pass when we had 5s). I know there is a big diference because board 2 was MP. My partner told me after contract failed by 1 that pass from him means you ca double or bid and double from him means I have to pass. I said sorry because sounds familiar to me what he/she said. Thing is we won 2.8 imps and I do not why. I think set was better. Here the opponent was taking a bit of time to bid 5d my p observe that thing and let him know during the play but I didn't catch it so my judgement should not be influence by that. ...................................................................................................................... Dealer: South Vul: NS Scoring: MP ♠ AKQJ87 ♥ ♦ 96 ♣ A8652 West North East South - - - 1♠ Dbl Pass 2♥ 2♠ 3♦ 3♠ 4♦ 4♠ 5♦ Dbl pass ? Here is a free tourney pairs my partner I played with him a lot of times but we do not have a regular parnership and agreements. He has profile as advance. Here I trust his double and I pass but we had 5s. My question for both boards: is when to go on to 5 level after opps interfere with your biding? or how to judge for level 5 bid, pass or leave it double? Thank you in advance for your advice best regards jocdelevat

Every Rule has an exception...

In both cases I will play ace first then small towards kjt. For contract the fact that east shows 4-4 in majors and my hands are balance I have to take a risk of playing twice towards akjt without taking the ace first( If q spade singleton in west hand will be bad luck.) I see no way of of forcing east to ruff one of minors so I can over ruff (Any cobinations of minors in east hand except to have 2 clubs and 3 diamonds(wich I think is same probability as q s in west hand) will not make east to ruff the minor so I can over ruff then play ace and go to board and lead small.) -

indy ACBL boards
jocdelevat replied to jocdelevat's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
First of all I thank you for your answers. Second I love you and the forum for bil beacuase I learned and still learn a lot from reading this forum. After I red answers to my questions always seems clear but at tbl looks to me more complicated Now my bil thoughts and regrets: First board: things that confused me here:1. I wasn't short in opponnents suit to use as take out double and no range for 1nt. I add my points to opener points and got like 32-33 and thought my pard and the opps should be empty hands so I was totaly in the dark of what to bid. Now after red the ansewers I remember the option for double with 17+ points than bid your suit so in my case the hand fit the nt bid after double. Second board: just a regret here: I open 1d then a pass my pard bid 1h then an x and bid 2h. My pard had an openning hand so he jump to 4h and of course trumps didn't stay well and other things and my pard fail the contract. The thing here is I regreted I open this hand when I saw my pard jumping in 4h. Third board:Another 12 points not so nice to open but I did. Here I saw a misfit and I was afraid to bid 3c because of high level and afraid to bid 2h for the reason of not make my pard thinking I have 6 hearts. Next thing in competitive auction Im not always sure to take a 2 level bid new suit of my pard as forcing but now I know and I will. Fourth board: I was afraid to play my minor suits winners and then to do cross ruff because of 3h bid however seems clear and easy the line now. I usually count in all suits but 3h made me thinking of a weird distribution. best regards jocdelevat -

x or pass at 5 level
jocdelevat replied to mike777's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
hi my level b/i i play sayc The auction is a tough one and questions tougher(if this word exist in english, I'm from Romania). First thing is I played in a tourney with an advanced player( very conservative not a riski bid player) and was an auction similar to this so what I learn is to wait for his response(so I pass) because at mp and unfav vul an x will score more than our game with the points we have. Second thing I red somewhere not sure if here in forum that most of the time better to let opponents play at 5 level(not sure this is corect). Now answers: I think pass will sugest partner to double for penalty I do not clear understand the meaning of the double( no clue for me here) best regards jocdelevat -
Hi all My level B/I I play SAYC. I always avoid to play transfer to minors because of different ways to transfer. When I first learn transfers to minors was 2s for clubs and 2nt for diamonds then I saw some players use to specify how they like by pointed 2s for clubs and 3c for diamonds. I just review the ACBL booklet where it doesn't specify if the bid bid 2s is a transfer to minors but the answers look like it is and means 2s transfer for both minors then partner corects. I looked on the learn to play brige on BBO and there transfer to minors is a 2s bid the nt opener bids 3c then partner pass with clubs or corects to diamonds. So my question is: if you play in an individual tourney and your partner profile have transfer to minors( usually included in a 4way transfer) how you'll transfer to minors( for exemple to diamonds). best regards jocdelevat P.S just a thought: I red on general bridge discussion a post for standard redouble. the auction was 1d x xx and the question: what xx mean with the answers: 1. 9-10 points no fit for opener suit>>>>>>traditional bid 2. meanning support we can make 1d >>>>weaker players bid. I fall in the second category and I recognize that I saw a lot of billies use that redouble as a support . I post this here so maybe other bilies can learn from that post.(http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=15268). I do not know if there was a topic for redoubles here in forum can someone post the link or let me know how to search for that specific topic.

East bids 3c and failed by one then complain to me why I didn't open or I should alert the pass. Let's see: -first i will play a round of trumps(stating with ace) thinking to take all trumps out then promote diamonds and spades but after first round I wil start cursing about my bad luck that always bad distribution then rethinking my strategy. so west had 7 clubs and rest he has diamonds and spades. east had 4 hearts, 2clubs and rest diamonds and spades. my sure loosers ace club ace diamond then possible loosers king spade and jack trump. so bad thinking to starts trump out with ace(a rule says always come from board if possible) because now im down anyway I play. so the right line after 2 rounds of clubs is to play smal trump to queen for first round of trumps then finese spades which king will won by west. he will return club I put 10 or 8 trump east cover i cover then smal spade to 10 follow by smal trump if east not cover i take with seven if cover I cover. so in the final i can take all trumps and give a diamond contract made it. my conclusion here is: the 9 never rule will failed the contract in this case for most players at my level (beginner-intermediate) then a question: is there any logic in lead a small trump to q instead of playing ace first when you have 9 trumps wiht ace king in hand and q at board? best regards jocdelevat

Hi all I played today in a tourney( rubber bridge) and was last hand. We lead and opponents needs game to make rubber and win. I was in first seat and with 5 clubs and 10 hcp I open 3c. Oponents didn't ask anything about my bid durring auction and they got to play in 4s. Declerer starts to play then td ( not from BBO) stops and asked me in private about my 3c bid which was not conform with what it suggested especially that require a seven card suit. I told her that the bid is a weak bid which 3c means but doesn't means I have to have 7 cards in the suit. TD stops the play and told me that my bid should be alerted and she will ask opponents if they wanna skip hand or play. I told her that if they suspect anything wrong on my bid should ask durring the auction and that she cannot let them know now. Td told opps my bid did not meet the requirements for 3c and asked opps to decide if we skip hand or pass but opps asked td if I have 6 clubs( my lho has 6 clubs) they will continue if not they need to skip hand. Td decide to skip hand then next hand we had good cards and won. Playing in this league partner should alert your bid is not like in bbo self alert.Questions: 1. my p should alert my bid? ( we don't have any agreement, posted conv card before game was: 5cm cm w2's stay transf/majors bw str2c/steps) 2. was my bid a psyche? 3.what about td interference and decision. Thank you in advance for your comments Best regards Jocdelevat

sick to death of rude experts
jocdelevat replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I tried before to put bbo basic and i confuse more partners(usually intermediates my level) than with basic sayc. I think we(beginner-intermediates) have to put in our profile what is a comomn system and add options just in case you play and advanced or expet players(most of the time in indy tourney). I understand that playing with experts is more challenging and I can learn more from his/her play but at the same time I can destroy his/her fun with my mistakes which I cannot avoid so I denny invites for level higher than mine most of the time. best regards jocdelevat -
My humile opinion: BBO should make a spot(like lower corner of the table) for advertising when run those events so colud make some money from that. The Internet and TV are best for adversiting. After that it will be easy to find sponsor and to pay the operators. I do not know if advertising is against federation bridge rules and i do not know how much work should be done for that to be possible. The people who watch the vugraph should understand that without advertising more events will not be possible. best regards Jocdelevat

asign the blame
jocdelevat replied to jocdelevat's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Hi all I was south. I agree my bid was bizare, lunatic, ridiculos. Here is just a thought maybe wrong but worth to put it here. My thought when I bid 5h was to mess up their communication because if he cue bid my suit his partner bid after my weak my partner pass they found fit ( i took his cue bid as spades plus strong hand) they will have a hard time to double me instead of making slam. I always have hard time to play in imps tourney for the following reasons: 1.im beginner-intermediate which imply mistakes, confuse, not clear view of biding etc.( trying to improve by reading books and use this forum. I never read a bridge book). 2. Imps tourney in my opinion is good to play with a regular parner than with the one from partnership desk so in my case I don't have one. My friends are beginner-intermediate too so our conventions are poor and without any agreements. Very hard to compete in this case. Bridge is still a game( not science) and like any player I like to win. 3. 3 nights in a row I change my strategy at imps by pushing opps to high level in competitive auction and seems to work very well. Trying to set opponnents seems to work better than trying to win your contract. Thanks for your comments. I always apreciate it best regards jocdelevat -

Dealer: North Vul: EW Scoring: IMP ♠ JT73 ♥ Q53 ♦ 97 ♣ 5432 West North East South - 1♦ 1♠ Pass 1NT Dbl RDbl 2♥ Pass 3♦ Pass Pass Dbl Pass Pass Pass Hi all Playing basic SAYC level beginner intermediate. I usually don't accept invites from a level higher than mine but sometimes I like to test my skils on biding. I can be lucki with patient partner and willing to give me advice then the game will be more enjoyeable and chalenging. I had this hand my partner was expert. I bid 2h because didn't sound right for me to let opps play in 1nt redouble. We won 0.8 imps with a 3d contract down 2 but my partner told me that I should bid 2d not 2h so he can pass. He was upset but I didn't understand the auction. Questions: 1. do you pass 1nt redouble( was my p double penalty or take out) 2.do you read my partner hand as 5 or more in diamond suit 3. do you bid 2d like he said Thank you in advance for your advice Best regards Jocdelevat
