I use the BBO in Hungarian language and I found a very annoying mistranslation. In the Messages menue there are 3 options: News, Chat and Mail. In Hungarian both "Chat" and "Mail" are translated to "Üzenetek". The correct translation would be "Üzenetek" and "Postafiók" or "Csevegés" and "Postafiók".

Mobile app 5.0.9 feedback thread
LionHeart1 replied to diana_eva's topic in Suggestions for the Software
One more comment: if I select a player's results and I manage to see them (in most cases not), if I choose one of the boards, I get a message "loading data, please wait", but this message remains forever. -
Mobile app 5.0.9 feedback thread
LionHeart1 replied to diana_eva's topic in Suggestions for the Software
I found the TD function in Mobile version 5.0.9 practically unusable. If I try to select a player's results, either see them or not. If I see them at all and want to modify a result, for the first try it doesn't succeed. If I want to modify it to the bidden contract, it will not be shown as a default. I must select it from a scrolldown menue, and this is on a tablet or mobile phone not very comfortable. If I manage to see a player's results (usually not) and I select one of the boards, I get a message "loading data, please wait" and nothing happens. I can wait forever, I will not see the deal. And generally the windows for giving in data are so small that it is impossible to read them. I suppose these are bugs. Regards LionHeart1 -
Problem with uploading lin file for teaching table
LionHeart1 replied to LionHeart1's topic in BBO Support Forum
I sent 3 lin files to support@bridgebase.com that I had failed to upload. And I tried to upload a lin file downloaded from a BBO tourney. There was no problem to upload it, thus it seems the problem is in my lin file. -
Problem with uploading lin file for teaching table
LionHeart1 replied to LionHeart1's topic in BBO Support Forum
Yes, it is. I tried it with several different lin-packages. If there was only 1 deal in it, no deal was shown, if more than 1, than the deal from No 2 to the end of the package. For the deal No 1 I always get the error message mentioned in my previous post. -
Hi, I want to use my own deals for teaching and they are in a lin file. There is no problem with uploading them into BBO, but as if I want to use them at a teaching table, the first deal cannot be loaded in. Clicking on the redeal button I get an error message: "uploaded deal rejected" and for a subsequent click the deal 2 will be loaded in. Why and how can I bypass this problem? Regards LionHeart1

Show the result of other tables for TDs
LionHeart1 replied to LionHeart1's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Yes, I am talking about BBO online torneys. -
Playing a tourney, after finishing the deal I see the results of the other tables. But if I am a TD, I can't. It would be very useful for the TDs if they could see all results of the round in one window and would be unnecessary to browse the tables one by one or ask a player to check if there were unfinished tables. I think for the TD it is more important to see all results of a bord than the players. Regards LionHeart1

I use FDCC with my favorite partners in order to save time during playing. But my opponents complain that they sometimes don't see the explanations. For artificial bids I must mark them manually that they are artificial, otherwise these bids will not be marked red-framed. The text "artificial" is not so striking as the red frame. And if the opponents click on the predefined bids and I don't want to or cannot give more information, the original text disappears from the bid and appears "no information available". If I examine a played hand with the hand viewer's movie, I don't see the FDCC's explanations any more, not even the manual alerts. As far as I can remember, earlier I saw at least the alerts. Has it be changed in the newest version of BBO? Regards LionHeart1

Hi, I want to create tournaments with self-generated deals. I can make a .lin file, I can upload it into BBO and I can view it with NetBridgeVU. But as I want to create the tourney with the uploaded deals, sometimes I get an error message like this: "Could not upload boards. Error=95\nUsing random deals", another time (with other deals) I manage to create it. What does this error message mean and what can cause it? Regards Zoltan (LionHeart1 on BBO)

As a TD I clicked on a red name on the tables list in the "Show tables" and instead of opening the TD functions popup window, the row of the missing player jumped on the bottom of the table list. On another occasion the TD function window opened and I chose the subtitution option, but the substituted player was the one under the missing player, because the row of the missing player jumped down in the table list. This was very awkward, I had to apologize for the booting out, reseat him, then apologize at the substitute, why he is immediately booted out, while the table with the missing player waited in vain for the substitution. I experienced a similar phenomenon in the tournament list. I want to open a tourney details and I click on the tourney's row. Instead of opening the tourney details, the row of this tourney rolls up on the top of the tourney list. By the way, I use the browser version of BBO.

Nobody seems to be competent in this problem?

As a TD in the former browser version I could look for a table's results by clicking on the table and saw it independently of it who had played the boards. It was very useful, because 1 or 2 minutes before the end of the round I simply noted the table numbers and after the change I visited these tables and found if they were late and had AVE. In the newer version (for some months) if I visit a table, I see all results of the current N-S pair on this table, not the results played previously on this table. It means I must note the name of one of the players of the late tables (sometimes complicatedly spelt names) and then look for this player's results. It is a little bit cumbersome and more complicated than earlier. Or if I want to look for AVEs of the former rounds (because I couldn't watch after the status of the round), I won't see the AVEs if both pairs sit now on E-W. Is it possible to reset the former way of result display by tables?
-
A good idea, I make the same: copy the whole result with copy/paste into an Excel-sheet, delete the unnecessary rows (the headings) and sort the sheet by points (or by percentage) descending.

No, as far as I know, Swiss tourneys weren't split into sections earlier. Or we haven't yet reached the limit of one section. Our problem is, that it is more difficult to control the tourney for the TD, the different sections finish the rounds in different time and the TD cannot easily follow the end of the rounds. We usually play 16 deals in 8 rounds, up to now the TD had to watch 8 times in every 7-8 minutes, now playing in 2 or 3 sections, the TD has to watch the end of the rounds 16 or 24 times and almost continuously. And if the TD has something to do (t.ex. to adjust a board or to sub somebody), the tourney easily slips out of his hand.
-
To say the truth I don't see the pros for playing in sections. If the only advantage is that there will be more place winners, split the pairs into as small sections as possible (e.g. 4 pairs in a section) and then almost every pair will be place winner. But if we call this kind of tournament Swiss, it should be Swiss. Or the tourney organizer should have the possibility to choose option if single or multiple section.

Hi, our club regularly arranges tourneys with Swiss movement. I realized that since the middle of March the pairs are split into several sections. The players are unsatisfied with this solution, because the essence of the Swiss movement will be lost, namely the best pairs meet each other. And this method is wrong for the TD, too: it is more difficult to survey the status of the tourney. The only advantage is perhaps that if you are a quick player and you are not in a slow section, your timeouts are shorter. Do you think this change was a good idea? Best regards LionHeart1

I often play tournaments as playing TD. Sometimes I must adjust another player's result. As I choose the TD-option "Show player's results", the score pad will show this player's results instead of mine (I use the web-client version). After finishing the adjustment I want to see my own results again. Clicking on "My results" doesn't help, I see the other player's results. I must choose "Player's results" again and type my own name, but in this case my results will be shown confused, the deals I have played on the other direction than now, will be shown for the opponents. The correct results will be shown only after completing the tournament. This is rather embarrasing, because I don't see my current standing during the tourney. The same problem arises when somebody loses the connection during a tourney and later can come back. In this case he bothers the TD for the "incorrect" results, but the TD is not responsible for it. Is it a great problem to resolve? Best Regards Zoltan (LionHeart1)

Hi puentecito, there are a lot of developments and conventions made in Precision Club since 1973, but the basic principle is about the same. If you type in the search criterium 'precision club' for your internet browser, you will get a long list on this topics. You can choose among handbooks, tutorials and other literature in the languages you understand. And BBO is a useful place to practice e.g. precision, simply you open a table in the main lounge with a notfication for the intended bidding system. Regards LionHeart1

Bug at reviewing played hands
LionHeart1 replied to LionHeart1's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Hi Fred, no, I used the old downloaded Windows-version. But you are right, the cause of the error was a bad character in the explanation field, the player typed his declaration with caps-on and the declaration was "!#_!%" instead of "13-15". Zoltán -
Bug at reviewing played hands
LionHeart1 replied to LionHeart1's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Hi Fred, this is the deal in question: http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer...3685-1285092391 The 1NT opening was alerted and the play was broken off after this bid when the event occured. Best regards Zoltán -
I was TD in a tourney and I was asked to adjust the result of an unfinished but almost completed hand. As I reviewed it, I saw that the deal had been interrupted at the bidding phase. But the players of the deal asserted that they had been at the tenth or eleventh trick and the result was unambiguous. There were two other TDs in the tourney and they saw the same as me, the players had not finished the bidding, so we couldnot adjust the result. After finishing the tournament I wanted to send the complaining player an e-mail in order to show him the state of the deal at the point of the break-off and I recalled the deal in the hand viewer. To my greatest surprise I experineced that the player had had right, the deal had been played almost to the end. I think, it is very embarrassing if the TD don't see the current state of a deal during the tourney, only after finishing it. Regards Zoltán (LionHeart1 on BBO)

A kapitány leszól a gépházba: - Mennyi? - Harminc - kapja a választ. - Mi harminc? - Miért, mi mennyi? Így megy itt a szavazás is.

Yes, this is missing. Adding this functionality to the web-client is not high on our list of priorities. When we first started BBO, the notion of private and public clubs seemed to be a good idea, but it hasn't worked out that way for a variety of reasons. I am not sure what long term future (if any) there is on our site for these clubs, but given that almost all existing clubs are either not used or misused, this is not something we rate to spend a lot of time on in the near future. Well you did type them all in one by one in the Windows client  If you send me your include/exclude list(s) by e-mail (fred@bridgebase.com) and let me know the user ID that you use for TDing, I *might* be able to arrange to have these loaded into the database that handles this function for the web-client. I can't make any promises about being able to do this for sure (or being able to do it immediately). The date and time that the web-client displays is always expressed in your own time zone. I am not sure if this explains the issue you raise. If you still think there is a problem, let me know and I will investigate and fix if appropriate. Thanks for your comments, Zoltan. We have made a serious effort to make the TDing experience better in the web-client. Getting feedback from TDs is helpful and appreciated.
