  1. hmmmmmmm, I have a plastic trophy from the very first NABC I attended. I am sure my partner still has hers too. I am not planning to part with it! I think we played 0 -5 or - 20 and came 1st. We had a lot of fun. Just a quick story, - we showed up for a 9:00 a.m. game only to find there was no game scheduled. There was another woman there also disappointed not to find a game. Sitting there in the lobby or mezzanine was a man reading a newspaper. This gal asked him if he would come and join us for a game of bridge to which request he kindly aquiesed. He continued to read his paper while we played and we were in awe as he seemed to know everything we had in our hands. Later we learned he was someone who is paid to play. I wish we had been able to find out his name.
  2. I would definitely be interested if you are willing to take in intermediates. I have a regular partner and we always enjoy playing "up". Usually any evening around 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. EDT(starting times) with the exception of Tuesdays. Weekends are good too day and evening. Sunday a.m.'s are not good due to IAC Teams.
  3. For those who might remember - from The New York Times "Barbara Ann Scott, who became a Canadian heroine at 19 when she won figure skating gold at the 1948 Winter Olympics, succeeding Norway’s Sonja Henie as the premier women’s skater in a sport Europeans had dominated for decades, died on Sunday at her home on Amelia Island, Fla. She was 84. Scott usually dominated the compulsories, the tracing of figure-eight variations, which accounted for 60 percent of the scoring in her era, but she deftly executed spins and leaps as well. At 13, she became the first female skater to complete a double lutz in competition."
  4. Where I live the smart meter system is just coming into effect. We have had the meters for a very long time and have had one false start but the system has now started in earnest. The dishwasher and washer/dryer will not be on in the household in peak times. Other than that I don't know what else to do to keep my use of hydro to a minimum. Things like the power bar for the tv - the cable digital box, etc. are on all the time. Anything I have heard or read indicates that the cost of hydro increases when the smart meter goes into effect. I will know that with our next billing. We will be able to monitor our times of use on the hydro website.
  5. Thanks very much. I have now found the proper tab. I appreciate the reply.
  6. Today I was to set a team match for members of the BBO_IAC club. Unfortunately I did it wrongly the first time and it ended up with the opps being our own teammates. It would have been easy to fix but I couldn't cancel the table. I don't want to go into all that followed except to say it took at least a half hour to get things sorted out. 2 players couln't stay due to the lateness and spares had to be found. I had to get onoway to cancel the table as I couldn't do it myself. If I understood her correctly in order to be a director of the match for those on the web version she has to get the assistance of a yellow. That is because there is no place to enter the name of a director as I think the table defaults to the setter of the match to be director. Is there something I could have done? I am using the web version.
  7. IMO the ACBL speedball has ruined the regular acbl game. Speedball gets lots of players (only an hour) and the regular game is poorly attended. 4 minutes a hand is not much time for thinking about what should be done.
  8. I think this is truly amazing. Just how smart might I have been  Now a video to help me get lebensohl down would be nice.
  9. This comes under the category of things I would rather not know about.
  10. Saturdays and Sundays the BBO_IAC Club runs team games. This last series ended today having completed 7 weeks. Members make up their own teams for each series. I am not exactly sure but I think there are 6+ matches going at one time. As a team captain I will set the Match when it is my turn to do so. I then become the tournament director. In the old version I am able to enter the name of the person running all these games as the director. I can't do that in the new version. Can this be fixed? Also when the match has finished there is no time for me to "chat to the tournament" to either congratulate and/or console as the case may be any of the players. I have to locate each player separately to speak to them. When using the old version this was not a problem. Is there any way to change this set up?
  11. I would suggest you try the lessons on BBO by oliverc. I am not sure whether or not they are still ongoing. It would be better to go into them when he restarts the series.
  12. This is the first I knew of this offer of team games. I am presently trying to put together a team. And yes, the BBO_IAC team matches are certainly run efficiently and they have engendered a lot of interest.
  13. So, under what name do you run your tournaments, and what days and times please?
