  1. Agree that 2C 3C as invitational, and 4C as forcing is not a good way to play it. Does anyone know how Fred copes with the 6+ invitational and clubs? It seems the only problem is with the 1S auction holding the 6+inv, using his structure as 1H 3C can still be 6+inv.
  2. Decided to use the gitelman style 1H 2S, and 1S 3C as jacoby. I don't use bergen raises so jumps to 3 level in general invitational with 6+ cards. However with the 3C taken away for 1S 3C, is it best to have a) 1S 2C 2x 3C as this type of hand, and then 4C just forcing setting clubs, or b.) put this hand type in the 1N responses. also while this on my mind, 1H 2C 2x 3C would be forcing, so what's the best way to play 4C? thanks a lot. Dave
  3. Sure this has been discussed but can't find it anywhere. Which are the best conventions to play over the semi-forcing 1N. i.e. after 1♥1N or 1♠1N. Heard about bart which looks good. Don't know much about gazilli but been told it's good(does anyone have a good link), and don't know any other possiblilities beyond that. Any suggestions? Thanks
  4. Did a similar thread for 2♣ openers. now 2N :) What are your views on the best structure opposite a 20-22 balanced hand NT (or equivalent ranges). at the moment, have puppet stayman, and normal transfers available, but are often not bidding good slams. Someone suggested this weekend having 3♠ as a puppet to 3N, then showing various things from there. Any other ideas? thanks
  5. So you work out the initial distribution only? so in the end position, you use your short term memory to remember how many rounds of the suits you've played?Agree that method which you described is a waste of energy. Thanks for initial post. more ideas would be great to get a feel for different ways to go about it.
  6. I assume people know what i mean by counting the hand. e.g. counting how many cards are out in each suit, and the likely shapes of the opponents. What are other people's methods for doing it, i.e. thought processes as you do it as I find the way I do it is really inefficient and am often getting all the numbers jumbled in my head and having to do lots of retracking. Haven't seen any books ever on the best way to do it, and have relied on my own methods which don't seem very good. Also in defence, how do you go about counting the hand efficiently. Hope this makes sense. Will clarify further if it doesn't. cheers
  7. What's the best structure after a 2C opener do you think? (i.e only one strong bid available). e.g. is kokish and all its continuations worth the bother learning etc. At present, using a structure where after 2C 2D pretty much a relay, and after that 3C/3D/3H/3S 8 playing trick style hand, and 2H after 2D asks pt to bid 2S, and then suit bids gf style hands. Are there better methods which could be used?
  8. Would be nice if GIB was reprogrammed slightly, so it didn't decide to XX contracts with no extra values, or when no certainty the contract will make. Would make the money bridge more relaxing
  9. The 1N would be non forcing acol style, so 6-9 ish. Was wondering if anyone used any methods after this sequence, or if natural bidding is the best way. ty
  10. does anyone have any information on transfers after auctions starting with 1♥ 1N or 1♠ 1N, and if they are worth playing. thanks
  11. does anyone have the link to this, which is the alternative to using deep finesse. there used to be a page on this forum where could download it, but can't seem to find it. thanks
  12. ok thanks for the views. I chose 6D and kinda knew when I was bidding it, 5D was probably going to avoid a disaster more often than not and if pt had the right hand then we'd just miss 6D. however being in a punty mood I went for the 6D, and was wondering just how 'bad a bid' it was, as my pick-up pt didn't like it one bit :P pt had [hv=s=saqxxxhk9daktxxct]133|100|[/hv] (and yes the 3H bidder was a weak player ;))
  13. [hv=d=n&v=b&s=stxhxdq9xxckqjxxx]133|100|Scoring: ??[/hv] 1S (3H) pass pass 4D (4H) ? problem is if pt has 2 aces, 4N will take you past the safe 5D. and Ac AKd AS and 6 will be cold, and this is very possible holding given the 4D bid. Anyway which bid do you think is best, and does mp/imp scoring affect it
