Rossoneri makes excellent points as to what a free, volunteer TD often endures...and players are surprised that there are more and more limitations as to who can register (no enemies, friends, language, country etc...) and fewer fewer free tourneys....but I digress.... Back to Sniwas1 - if I read his first post right, he joined July 30,09 and his first post was also on July 30, 09 at 05,30...I can only wonder if in 5 hours and 29 minutes of BBO experience, he has had the time to truly appreciate BBO as a whole and its possibilities for bridge lovers of all levels around the world. It is a priviledge to have BBO and also a priviledge to play here. So a TD stretched the truth - BIG DEAL! Theoretically it was BBO that removed the offline players...the TD clicked on the button and the software did the rest... maybe all the players clocks were not synchronized... Just had to get my 2cents in on this non issue.

I am reading this string and shaking my head...why is it so obsessively important to have one-size-fits-all tournaments? Life (and bridge) is about choices. You choose the tournament you want to play in...you choose the contract..some are good, some are not so good and that's the way we learn and hopefully, don't make the same mistake twice. Some BBO tourneys are for chatty, social fun and others are deadly serious. Some TD's are geniuses and others are less...Some have rules that are different from others...some have restrictions as to level,country, language, whatever. Choosing to play in a tourney is also choosing to accept that specific tourney's rules. We play different systems and meet different players...like in real life sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. We just then move on... I see BBO as this huge global bridge playing village and like any self-respecting village, it will have a few idiots. That's life! So be it... but variety IS the spice of life and for variety, BBO is very hard to beat. ;)

I am reading this string and shaking my head. I run goulash tourneys - mostly individuals and sometimes pairs. During the past 2 weeks I have been told by TDs who operate paying goulash tourneys that 1/ I am not 'allowed' to schedule a goulash tourney within 20 minutes of either side of their paying tourney and 2/ FREE goulash tourneys should not be allowed. I ignored them and did my thing. Then I noticed a surprising number of registrations with the same flag as that of one of the paying goulash TD's. After 2 boards or so, they would disconnect. Some would return as subs, play one hand and disconnect again. I then selected every sub and we continued. I know how to poach eggs, but subs? anyone have a recipe? Cheers

For what it's worth, I ask players who misclick to tell me. I also announce at the beginning of a tourney that if there is an honest misclick to stop bidding or playing and to call me immediately. I go to the table, size up the situation and activate the undo if it is an obvious misclick. If the opps complain, I explain that I would do the same thing for them in such a situation. If the opps repeatedly refuse to accept the undo, I will usually adjust the board if the honest misclick affects the result and tell them why. hey mira esta animacion de bush :P http://ani7.servegame.com

Gee Hrothgar...I learned something new thanks to you. Hadn't realized that we could fill out all sort of personal information in the forum profile. Well since I only want to play bridge - my bridge profile is there and I don't think that anyone needs my birthdate unless they want to send me a present. But I'm glad that it's there for those who want to use it. I just want to know a player's level and bridge system..... :)

What is the purpose of totally blank player profiles? No name, no country, no system. :) Many do not reply when asked what system they play and far too many think that being completely annonymous allows them to quit tourneys and/or be rude. For tourneys, it should be a requirement as a minimum to display what system is played by every player. No one plays live bridge with a paper bag on their head :) so why allow it here?

Yes in fact if you decline twice, you are removed but if you are offline, your name apparently stays on the sub list...... B)

:) In tourneys when I look for a sub, I check the sub list and see several names yet when I ask for a sub for a missing player, the message "No Subs Available" comes up and posts a request to the lobby. Does this mean that people who signed up as subs have gone offline but their names are still on the sub list? If so, any possibility of removing the name of a player on a sublist when he goes offline? Cheers

Is there any way of preventing a player who is playing in one tourney from disconnecting, then reconnecting and signing up for another tourney before the first tourney is finished? This happens repeatedly, requiring subbing and causing delay in play. Maybe players who intentionally disconnect from one tourney before the tourney is finished cannot be allowed to sign up for another tourney until the first one is over? Just a thought. :)

Enabling or disabiling signing up as a sub in a tourney from anywhere is a really good idea.

Players who are blacklisted in a tourney (for leaving a table mid hand, being rude, etc) can sign up as subs and in several cases, repeat the offenses for which they have been blacklisted int he first place. Is there any way of preventing blacklisted players from signing up as subs? Cheers

Wish there was a button available - especially during tourneys - that would prevent dummy from talking. This is especially annoying in individual tourneys when partners do not know each other and a motormouth is dummy....no matter how many times one says it...it does not seem to work....wishful thinking
