  1. Can anything be done about GIB's horrible opening leads ? In particular, their penchant for leading singleton honors, including the stiff trump K. They also seem to lead H from Hx versus NT even when holding a solid sequence in another suit (both suits unbid).
  2. Yes, I can claim when playing versus GIBS on the download version.
  3. My wife and I have been playing on the old downloadable version of BBO for a long time. We decided to try the web version and discovered that for some reason we are unable to claim as the claim button stays grayed out. We have tried claiming from both our PC's. Even if you are down to 1 trick to play and hold the only outstanding trump, you can't claim. We are both using windows7. I'm running the latest version of Firefox and she is using the latest version of IE. No problems when using the downloadable version. Suggestions ?
  4. While watching the Bermuda Bowl, someone mentioned a 7♥contract (I believe played by Tor Helness) that was the hand of the year. Does anyone know a link to that hand ?
  5. 1) Playing Precision. pd opens 1d in 1st seat & rho bids 1s. Among other things, your are playing negative doubles & neg. free bids at the 2 level. What do you say with x AK9 9xxx ATxxx ? 2) Imps red versus white, 1h opened on your left, pass, pass to you holding Tx Jx AKQx AJ9xx ?
  6. I have seen a # of precision partnerships playing 1c-1d-1M as 4+ cards F1 with 2c/d as next bid showing 5/6 hcp and denying(2c)/showing (2d) support for opener's M. Are opener's bids now best played as natural? What non-game bids are forcing now?
  7. W N E S (1♣) 1♥ (p) 1♠ (p) 2♣ How do you play overcaller's cue bid ? Stephen was right original post was incorrect. Corrected now
  8. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sjhqxxxxxdkxxcaxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP If playing 2/1, what do you do after an uncontested auction that starts 1♠-1nt 2♠- ? If it matters to you, you have no intermediaries in hearts[/hv]
  9. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sa754hat642d5caq7&s=sq982hkdat92ckj92]133|200|Scoring: MP Uncontested auction to 4{SP}. Q{DI} led. Safest line for ten tricks?[/hv]
  10. North,N/S,IMP xxxx ,xx ,Txx ,xxxx]Opposite this terrific hand pd opens a 14-16 nt & rho passes.Do you try something cute here(say a transfer to spades) or just hope lho overcalls & doesn't X ?Actually, chose pass. lho's X was passed back to you, are you running now?( if it matters your system has 2c available here as clubs & another). I'm actually more interested in the decision making process on running/not running with balanced nothings when pd opens 1nt than this specific hand, but would appreciate comments on both.[/ONEHAND] Hoping this posts ok-having problems w/windows7.
  11. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=saqt86hakdakt82cj&s=sj4hqj97643djc974]133|200|Scoring: MP with no opposition bidding you reach 6h by south and get the 3s lead. what's the best plan?[/hv]
  12. Looking for suggested set of rebids by responder in a strong club system where the auction begins 1c 1d (neg) 1M (where M can be 4 cards & hand may hold longer m)
  13. all vul at imps LHO has bid 1h you end up in 4s opening lead is A of hearts and trick 2 is a heart to your K (rho hi lows if that matters) what's your plan? dummy 432 98 AKT742 JT declarer AQT65 K6 J AK732
  14. kfay, the cc says: x= Ms or ms 1n= c or d+h 2c= d or h+s 2d= h or s+c 2h= s or c+d 2s= c+h or d+s I found the cc on the ECATS site.
  15. In her book I Love This Game published in 2006, Sabine Auken argues that the most efficient defensive bidding scheme versus a strong club will not use ambiguous bids. She must have changed her mind because her cc for the '09 Venice cup shows several suction style bids. So, I would like to know what forum members prefer over strong club-known or unkown suit(s) and why?
  16. Came across someone playing 2m by 4th hand after (1M) p (1N forcing) as the bid suit & the OM. Does this gain significantly over 2m as natural here?
  17. a vanilla auction but what now? no one vul at imps (p) p (1!d) x (p) 1!h (2!c) ? OOPS!!!! here's your hand KT95 AQ9 AQ4 KJ3
  18. w. v. r u hold Q98 QJ2 QJ AQ642 rho bids 1!d
  19. After reading some articles on various methods and then watching WC players on BBO.it seems to me (please correct me if wrong) that there aren't many (any?) that play Rubens Advances or Obvious Shift (at least not to the extent of Granovetter's book). So, I was wondering what the downsides of these concepts are that result in their not being used?
  20. Is there an upside or downside to playing pass shows a stopper rather than denies as per? QUOTE (Justin Lall) 1N-(2)-X- P- No stopper. Then responder XXs as restayman, and opener responds with the major he doesn’t have (remember who the rightside is!). If opener has no major he responds 2 as usual. If responder does not redouble he’s showing a garbage stayman hand type. XX- Business, at least 4 very good clubs. Other bids- Normal Stayman responses and promise a club stop.
  21. Gnasher & Skaeran- thanks for your analysis. You both would have defeated the hand with a 2nd diamond as declarer held void AKQJx Q9 AKJTxx. I also agree with your suggested opening trump lead even though "resulting" declarer could make since the trump were 3-2 & the clubs 4-3. Again, thanks for the comments.
  22. Opponents uncontested auction goes pass 2c 2d 3c 3s 4h 5h 6h 2c=art & strg, 2d=waiting, rest of auction= nat You lead the dia A from KTxx T9x Ax Q9xx and dummy tables A9xx xxx Txxxxx void. Partner plas the dia 2 & declarer the 9. What do you lead to trick 2 & why/ Apologies if this is a wtp, but didn't seem clear cut.
  23. What are the odds on 7 consecutive 4h contracts? Last night my partner & I were practicing versus 2 GIBs. We played 19 boards and the 1st 7 boards were: 4hw made 5 4he made 5 4he made 5 4hw dn 2 4he made 4 4he made 5 4hw dn1 Even stranger all these were played e-w.
  24. What do you take a cue bid of opp's suit to be after make an unusual nt bid? Is your answer different if pd is a passed hand? Does it depend on whether opp's suit is a major or a minor?
  25. u hold AKJ97 AK8 3 KQT6 red v. white rho opens 1nt (15-17) 1. your bid ? 2. if you X, lho bids 2c = clubs and another (can be 4-4) pd passes and rho bids 2d alerted as "no fit for clubs." what now?
