  1. I disagree that this situation is unique to teh Cayne matches. I sometimes start a table or host a team match where I allow kibs to communicate openly, which can be real fun among a bunch of likeminded people. The problem is of course that someone can just come in and wreak havoc, a regular occurence. I'd love to boot and ban them from my table or team match, but cannto do so without banning everybody. Hugh
  2. Yes, the ability to gag kibs is a great idea too That way, the host can 1. Gag 2. Boot 3. Blacklist Hugh
  3. This topic came about as a result of the behaviour of some kibs during the Cayne matches. When some kibbers misbehave during a match, the only recourse that the table host has is to disallow kibbers altogether. It would be useful for the table host to not only be able to boot kibbers one at a time, but also to ban them (maybe add them to the enemies list and thereby disallow them from kibbing) Also to have a checkbox when a new table is created to "Allow kibitzers, but not ones that are enemies" Hugh
  4. Super, thanks. Sorry about not being able to find it.
  5. Hi I want to restrict my tourneys to skill levels Advanced, Expert and World Class. I selected "Include players by player level". The software popped up a dialogue into which I entered "Advanced,Expert,World Class" (comma separated). It didn't do what I wanted it to. Novices and Privates were still allowed in Any ideas? In what format should I enter the list of allowed skill levels? Thanks, Varange
  6. The v1.5 link is the only one that works for me at the moment though - does that use port 80 ?
  7. Hi I'm connecting from a public computer with IE7. Strangely, I can log in using the 1.5 Beta version http://www.bbotv.com/v2/client_v15/bbo.php?m=n , but not with the latest version ( http://www.bbotv.com/v2/client/embed_kiosk.html ). Could it be that the latest version uses a blocked port? What ports do the Flash versions use anyway? Varange
  8. Religion and creationism are equally bat *****. It's sad to see all this mental effort wasted on obvious nonsense.
  9. For FrancesHinden, by way of explanantion. These are the things that people find offensive: Player2 (Lobby): pls dont talk rubbish Player2 (Lobby): and in public too or Player2 (Lobby): oh man so anybody correcting your stupid intermediate thinking in bridge is nasty eh? I'm not sure whether you consider that to be acceptable or not. It's all a matter of choice, really, I suppose. And the way people interact. ------------------------------------------------------ For Flame: Sorry, I cannot decipher what you're saying - it's difficult to read those sentences. I'm not sure if my understanding of correct grammar is completely wrong; this may well be the case. Still: I don't understand what you're getting at. Sorry. ------------------------------------------------------
  10. Thanks for changing the names ... didn't realize it was not allowed. Hope you all had a good laugh though! Varange
  11. So, the tourney is over, and we're watching the final table finish their hand. NS make 6H except with extraordinary defense... anyway, at the time, I thought 6H made anyway. So I said so to all kibs present. This caused a self-styled "expert" to become abusive. Amazing... they see a card that says "intermediate" and immediately make the assumption that it is their duty to teach. This, to me, is the downside of online play. Here's the chat transcript, have a good old chuckle. ------------------------------------------- Varange->Kibitzers: NS had 6!h Player1 no ->Player1 yes Player2 6h is unmakable ->Player2 wrong Player2 really? Player2 lol pebcat: Automated message: Director has adjusted Board 9 to 5HN= at table 17 ->Player2 really. lol Player2 (Lobby): it is unmakable with simple correct def ->Player2 ahhh. Player2 (Lobby): pls dont talk rubbish Player2 (Lobby): and in public too ->Player2 if declarer plays the K!c, the next hand has to duck for it to not make. Who will do that in a slam? Player2 (Lobby): ALL good players will do it Player2 (Lobby): sheesh ->Player2 damn, you're a nasty one ->Player2 that means you wouldn't ->Player2 eeek. Player2 (Lobby): oh man so anybody correcting your stupid intermediate thinking in bridge is nasty eh? ->Player2 ahhh, you're an expert. I should have guessed. See my card for a definition Player2 (Lobby): my regular pards are mons16 thak terjel carlosp ok? ->Player2 who? Player2 (Lobby): i run all star team matches all day and night on bbo ok? ->Player2 I can see you're a hero ->Player2 see pebcat's card for a definition of arrogance Player2 (Lobby): while i am not wc i am most certainly and very easily and genuinely an expert ok? ->Player2 no, REAL experts have better manners Player2 (Lobby): so when somebody loike u argues wrongly and in PUBLIC TOO and then conmtinues arguing it is unbelievable ok? ->Player3: same ->Player2 you're nobody Player2 (Lobby): u r some piece of work lol ->Player2 look at yourself, and think about your arrogance, and how best to correct it. That's all, thanks Player2 (Lobby): geez Player2 (Lobby): i wil just say one last bthing though i already know its waste of time instead of saying stupid wrong things in bridge in public and attacking better players try to ... Player2 (Lobby): improve yur obviously very bad bridge level ok? ->Player2 you ended up 20th... lol, that's funny. Player2 (Lobby): bridge is a very precise game being nasty and attacking better players wrongly is only going to make u even stupider Player2 (Lobby): yes and u ended up with negative score right? ->Player2 yes. We had a bad run there... but par for the course for intermediate players, I suppose. If I were WC, I'd expect to be within the first 4 or 5 Player2 (Lobby): i am going to post this hand and this entire chat log in bbo forum lets see what peop[le have to say ->Player2 you do that Player2 (Lobby): yes i am going to Player2 (Lobby): i see u r a liar as well ->Player2 I am a liar? Player2 (Lobby): i specifically clearly and vfery unambiguously stated "while i am not world class i am most certainly an expert" Player2 (Lobby): and even that clear plain statement u distorted right? ->Player2 so? Player2 (Lobby): so lets ee that makes u ->Player2 I'll define it better... if I were a REAL expert, I'd expect to finish in teh top ten all the time Player2 (Lobby): 1) a very bad loudmouth bridge player who states DEAD WROGN things about bridge in public and then attacks better players who correct u right? ->Player2 you must have some sort of weird need for recognition. Why is that? Player2 (Lobby): 2) a mean nasty type who insults better plater and will never improve in bridge right? ->Player2 We are all entitled to our opinions, and if you think someone is wrong, then there is a nice way of saying that. Player2 (Lobby): 3) and now a liar as well who distorts other peoples clear statements right? ->Player2 and I hardly think you are a better player than I am. Player2 (Lobby): lol Player2 (Lobby): like i said u r some piece of work ->Player2 yes, and you are an expert. I can see that ->Player2 anyway, that's all. Bye [names changed by board administrator]
  12. yes, TrialBid is absolutely right.... A VISUAL cue to see whether someone is kibbing WITHOUT having to mouse-over. I think his idea of a pair of eyes is really neat. Uday: yes, the sound byte. It's ok, but not great. Cheers, Varange.
  13. When playing at a table, it would be nice to have a visual cue as to whether any kibs are watching, or even as to how many kibs ... Thanks again for great software, and especially for making a Linux version available. Varange
  14. To answer the prev question: No, there is no Linux native BBO software available. But the team at BBO have made some changes to the Windows version to enable it to run "under" the Windows emulator, WINE. So now you can install WINE in your favorite Linux distribution, and then run BBO. You'd need to be more specific about which distro you use to get any useful sort of help. Also you may want to fire up your favorite IRC chat client, like XChat, and mosey over to #linuxhelp in Undernet. People there are extremely knowledgeable and are willing to help provided you can show that you've done your part in trying to solve the problem yourself. As you may have guessed by now: Linux is a community effort and provided you know where to go and look for help, there's lots available. Lastly, I'd like to add my voice to the happy Linux users saying thanks to Uday and the team for making a BBO version available that runs under WINE. Well done! Varange
  15. PLEASE, a Linux client would be great. With Trolltech's QT development suite, it really is easy to have source code that can simply be compiled on any platform. Why is this a problem? I'd possibly interested in porting to a Linux client. Varange
