I will bid 1♠ because 2♥ promises 8-10 for me.

RKC 1430 OR 0314
Frank_lol_ replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I don't think it matters that much; I played 1403 because I'm taught that way (and its 1403 not 1430 for some reasons although they are the same thing). -
Well, I think trusting your partner is pretty important. I Can't say that you made a mistake though. Edit: You edited your reply, so mine doesn't make sense anymore :( Anyways, is there a way for the opener to show exactly 15-17, 5-3-3-2? Edit 2: like what AL78 said below, what would your 2NT show? maybe you don't bid 1NT with 5M? I have no idea, so I'm just guessing.
-
I am a little confused: what does 2♦ show? The 4NT also seems a bit rushed, but I wonder if there's anything better than that. We would have opened 1NT with North's hand. Then the auction would go: 1NT-2C 2H-3C 3H-5/6NT depending on my day Maybe you could have set H as trump and rkc with that? Because maybe the opener has a KQxxx heart suit and 7C might be the only possible grand. (by ruffing a heart) Which means, if I try to be the big-brain, the auction would go (for us): 1NT-2C 2H-3C 3H-3S maybe? hoping opener won't jump to 4NT 4D-4NT 5S-I honestly don't know

Takeout or Overcal
Frank_lol_ replied to Frank_lol_'s topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
A power double is also a part of takeout double afaik. But yeah, I meant takeout as in short spade and good support for the other suits. I would power X with a jack more, but not realy with this, although this is definitely the maximum of a overcall. -
Hand Editor doesn't load, so I'll do it in the ugly way: P P 1S ? IMPs, both vul 5 AQT85 A942 AQ9

Wrong forum. This is the “Intresting Bridge Hands” forum, and I don't think that there is an interesting hand in your post.

1 Why all caps? 2. You had so much bidding space. Bid whatever is GF for you (usually 3♥) and bid 7 if your partner has 4+ hearts or 2+ spades. If not, you can still rkc with spades as trumps asking for the ♠Q. You might also find out that your partner has the ♠Q and the missing Aces, which makes 7NT cold (which, in MPs,is a big issue)
-
Playing 2/1, we also don't raise with 3 card support.
-
Yes, I would. QT9xx isn't that bad (although I wouldn't overcall with anything worth than that), and it's on the 1 level anyway. The opponents is very likely to be more powerful than us, so they are gonna play their contract most of the time, and I would appreciate a heart lead against 2/3NT.

Leb with weak nt
Frank_lol_ replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
oh no, it's lebensohl, my nightmare when I frst started to play bridge. We play a simple (?) version of lb: 1NT (2♣) System on, X=stayman. Exception: jac. transfer to their known suit at 2 level or cuebid at 3 level asks for that stopper. e.g 1NT 2♣ (club and sth else) 3♣ asks for C stopper; 1NT (2♣) (both Maj) 2♦ asks for ♥ stopper. 1NT (anything else) normal lebensohl with 3 level bids as transfers; transfer to their suit = stayman (like direct cubidding in normal normal lb); 3♠ = 5-5 or better lowest two suits, slam intrests. A question: we play X as penalty (except 2♣ overcall like I mentioned above), but it doesnt come up often, and when it does, it just reminds the opponments that SOS is a thing. So should we change it to take out double, or stayman, asking for unbid majors, or if both majors are bid, asking for minors? (kinda like a negative double)? -
8-4, show me more
Frank_lol_ replied to pescetom's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
yeah, our teaste of xyz is very different. for us, a jump to 3C is 5-5 slam intrest. And the 5C to play is just an example, I won't do that in a real game. 2D and then 3C to show support seems good enough. (and I'm nowhere near to “higher level”; I just stepped out of the novice zone, and I use my convention just because there's no downside. I'm still very young so why not remember some more conventions?) -
8-4, show me more
Frank_lol_ replied to pescetom's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
for us, if I want to play in 5C, I will go through 2D GF. why should I jump to 5 level when my partner might have a very good 17P? and we use 2C relay to differentiate splinter/erkc with my(responder's) suit as trump with splinter/erkc with my partner's suit as trump. and if I jump to 3D and my partner denies slam intrest with 4D or cuebid 4C, theres no way I can do erkc anymore. ( I guess I can jump to 5S/6C, but that would be way to high) (btw we also use 2C relay and then 4NT as quantitative, so the relay is kinda multi-functional (if that's a word)) -
8-4, show me more
Frank_lol_ replied to pescetom's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
like I said in the previous thread: 1C - 1D 1H*- 2C** 2D - 5C*** 5D****- 6D * unbalanced, not 4=4=1=4 (with which we will bid 1NT) ** XYZ, relays to 2D *** erkc **** 1/4 I'm suprised that some people jump to 3D and then 5C. If you play that, what do you do with a H void and your partner cuebid 3H/3S? -
8-4, problems galore
Frank_lol_ replied to pescetom's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
With XYZ, I have a few options: 1. 1♠, nat GF and then: show my long diamond, cuebid all the way to whatever it brings me (no rkc); or bid my long diamond and jump to 5♣ for exclusion rkc if he doesnt rebid clubs(no way I can have club support with atleast 6-4); 2. 2♣ relays to 2♦ and 4♣, splinter with diamonds as trump 3. 2♣ relays to 2♦ and 5♣ for exclusion (we have a rule that anything higher than a splinter is erkc unless unlogical or defined otherwise) 4. 4♦ for rkc 5. 3♦ slam intrest, hide the club void 6. 6♦ idc if i get bad score just wanna have fun hahaha 7. 6NT surely my partner has club control and we can make exactly 12 tricks to claim a top right surely surely surely I would personally choose 3, erkc. I don't see a reason to show my spade that my partner is unlikely to support anyway. The downside is that I don't get to know his spade control if I push the auction to 5 level directly, but a bit of guessing isn't that bad. Edit: oopsies, thought they have Axxx in ♠ instead of KQxx In this case, I would definitely bid exclusion rkc -

oh, didn't realize that. I would pass in the first round, but still bid 4♥ over 3S. (I'm only 14 and I have only played bridge for 2 years, so forgive me if I make mistakes). But it wouldn't really work well because EW couldn't even make 3♠ over a ♣ lead. This means that 4♠ would be even worse lol Edit: If I were W, I wont bid 3S with the card you said. Intrestingly, by switching up the queens, both N and W lost value ( Qx by W is basically useless in this senario, xxxxx by N is just... not optimal) -
What's a jump cue after a take-out double?
Frank_lol_ replied to perko90's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
yeah, I would treat instant jump cuebid over a minor as natural as well. -

Frank_lol_ replied to Frank_lol_'s topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Yeah, if E bid 1♠ and they end in 4♠, I would definitely lead ♥. 4♠Xmake would give EW a very good score (and us a 0) -

If i had DQ iknstead of DJ, I would have raised to 3H. So It would probably go like: 1H (2H) 3H (3S maybe?) 4H (4S maybe?) P (P) X All Pass -
Would you Sacrifice
Frank_lol_ replied to Frank_lol_'s topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Here is the full hand:[hv=pc=n&s=sa8hkqt843d76cak9&w=sqjt763hdkq943c73&n=sk9hj92djt2cq8652&e=s542ha765da85cjt4&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1h2hp2s3h3s4h4sdppp]399|300[/hv] I passed at first, as our 3♥ promises a little bit more than what I have. Having a very good 16 pointers with only 5 losers, my partner bid 3♥ Having 6 Spades, West bid 3♠ (if he wanted to invite 4♠, he would have doubled) Hearing my partner's 3♥, I gladly bid 4♥. East later told me that he bid♠ hoping for 2 things: If West has a 6-5-1-1 shape with only 3 losers in the long suits (which is very likely), he can probably make the contract with his 2 Aces; if the contract goes down, he hopes that NS can make 4♥. -

I was the guy sitting at north, so I cant control what my enemy uses lol I'll show the ful hand later, not on my computer rn. -

I'm suprised that no one wants to bid 3♠. 4♠ promises a 8 card suit or a AKQ 7 card suit that is too weak to open 4♦ (Namyats) for me. At first/second seat, I would open 3♠ with 2/3 honors with maximum a side A 1♠ with 3Ks and a Jack is just too much for me So I would pass.

Bidding the same values again & again
Frank_lol_ replied to jillybean's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
Honestly, I would X. West shows 4+♣ an 4+♥, so my double would be: Hey, I have a good 3 card support and 5 diamonds, you can bid 2♠ with 5+♠ (or good 4♠ if you think this is the best bid), 2D with 2+♦ ( 5-2 at 2 level is not the end of the world) or pass for penalty.
