Hey, seems like you don't like experts' advices. I love that kind of spirit, not gonna lie. Improving by playing is as effective as reading books. Who knows, maybe your bridging style will become popular in 50 years, like what happened in chess. Oh, can I also give an advice? If you wanna give your opinion, try to make short comments. It's really hard to scroll down 5 billion pages. Or just make a new post and wsrite an essay about it. Wanna be friends? I feel like you are a really nice person who wants the world to be less toxic. I'm like that too, just that I'm not as aggressive.

What. The. *****. Is. Happening. (srr for the f word but its essential here) People are just trying to give you advises, possum. I see nothing wrong with jilly's comments. Can you find me a sentence that attacked and bullied you? I'm very, very new to this forum, but you've already given me that you are overrracting to every single comment about you. Maybe you should chill out a bit, and reread the comments that, in your opinion, are targeting your person, not your playing. Maybe you will find out that they are just giving their opinion/experience. Hey, you don't need to act that aggresive to them. If they give you an advice that you won't accept, you can say something like: Thanks for your advice, but I don't think it will work. I'll keep playing with my own convention/style for now. That sounds a lot better.

Pass. This hand has good defensive value, and I'm not bidding on the three level with this.
-
I don't know why you spent 3 sentences talking about friendliness. Did anything happen? Anyway, new minor forcing seems to be appropriate here. With XYZ you will bid 2D instead of 2C.

Bidding a 554x hand is also new to me.

Instructive hand for improver

How to bid a 2-suit blockbuster

Oh no, this hand is becoming too stressful for a beginner like me. Do I think my partner has ♣A/♥K? if partner had responded 2nt (promises honor and sopport for all suits, at least for us, which is not possible because I have AKQ in diamonds so my partner must have bid a balanced 8-10 pointers and thought thats what it shows), 6H. On a bad day, he would have both ♥K and ♣A, but I dont have enough space to look for them. if 3C, 6D/6H (I forgot the hand; is the heart suit self sufficient?) if P/X, than I'll pass after the disencouraging double. On a bad day the opponents will make 5SX+1 (by ruffing everything) or we have 6D/H. -

3D to set trump and cuebid all the way to 6/7D? I don't think rkc is the best idea here, opposing a possible void and also need to look for ♠Q. (I havent seen the whole hand yet) Edit: oh god, I have no idea how to cuebid correctly. xxx - 1D 1H - 1S 2C/2D(4fs or xyz) - 3C 3D - ? does 3S by east start cuebidding and deny heart void/singleton A? if so, than ... - 3S 4C -4D then what? does West cuebid his King opposite a singleton? i guess not, so 4S - 5C 5D - Pass Should east bid 6D instead of pass if he had the Trump King? -

4NT for specific Ace/king ask if you have that (which we dont) if 2♣-(2S)-X*/P-(4S)-4NT is not natural (and it cant be), 2C is fine... I guess? *X=double negative If you bid 1H-(2S)-?-(4S), you have the bid 5D but what difference does it have? if the contract is not (or rarely) contested, than it doesnt make any big difference Maybe the auction will go: 1H-(1S)-1NT-(2S)-3D(should be forcing if good-bad 2nt is a thing)-(4S)-P-P Then maybe you can bid 4NT, showing shape (and slam intrest?) -

As a beginner/improver (whats the difference), I'll bid 2C 4SF (or 2D because I play xyz) If the opener show balanced 12-14 somehow, I just bid 4NT -- has to be quantitative -- because theres really nothing else to bid. Maybe I should show the diamond fit? But whats the point, opener has shown 4=2=4=3/4=2=5=2 already (because he has a balanced hand), and 6D isnt really gonna do that much better than 6NT imo. If the opener shows a unbalanced hand or 3 card heart support, I show my diamond support. -
a way to bid strong NT with 5M
Frank_lol_ replied to Frank_lol_'s topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
But that example won't really come up; You can't pass 1NT after 1S because the opener can't rebid 1NT. 1S-1NT-2C is 12-bad18 already (for us at least), so the opener will almost always bid 2NT with flat 10 or correct to 2S with something worse. (or maybe this is losing bridge?) I don't know how much effect 12-15 will have on gf 2/1 auctions, so I leave that to those more experienced players (like you:D). Edit: 1x -1y - 1nt is 12-14 under any circumstances (unless I downgrade 15-pointers, which I don't do often) -

Also, we do play garbage stayman, which mean that we will have to go to the 3 level after 2nt. I still need to discuss this with my partner. Obviously I cant play something that is not even mentioned in the agreement. -

Thanks for your reply! Can you explain why 12-15 plays much worse than 12-14? -

Frank_lol_ replied to Frank_lol_'s topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
What this can't solve: 1. 1NT-2♥-2♠-pass and you are playing a 5-2 fit. 2. The range 12-15 might be too big? [Edit: 3. You can't show a 5cM after a direct 3NT responce, or if the bidding went 1NT-2C-2H/S-3NT] Edit: rebidding 3 card minor after forcing 1nt won't a problem for us, as we already do that anyways. -
I play 15-17 1NT, and I recently thought of a way to bid my 5 card majors after stayman without ruining my system. With 5 card ♥: If minimum (15-16), bid 2nt after 2♣ ( stayman) If you don't have a conventional meaning for 1nt-2c-2x-2nt, it won't affect your system at all. With a invitational hand, you pass or bid 3♥ (or if you think you can make 4♥ because you have 4 card support and a good invite or something, you can also bid it); with a minor with slam invite, you still bid 3m, etc. if maximum (16-17), bid 2♥ first and bid 3♥ over 2♠, 2NT (to choose between 3NT and 4♥) and 3m (doesnt deny m support) With 5 card♠: if minimum (15 or very bad 16 that is even worse than a 15), open 1♠ and rebid 3 card minor after 1nt or rebid what ever you bid with 12-14 after a 2/1 so it becomes 12-15. if maximum (16-17), same as with 5 card ♥.

I don't think I can reach slam. Over a 2D responce, I don't think I will look for slams, expecially when I can't bid a splinter to descfribe my hand. But that's wrong, as 5D is pretty much cold and 6D is possible with a maximum. I guess I just need to be a better bridge player.
-
I agree. So what do you think is the correct bid?
-
A little bit off topic, but I wonder what GiB will do. Will it bid with some reference to real bridge with a hand like this?
-
Am I too conservative? that hand does not look 8-10 for me. oh, I'm expecting 1♥-1♠-1NT. But you are right, we do play like that.
-
Yes. But 1NT would denies 4S for us. And if I go through 1NT, it would mean good 6-9 with 2 card support or 5-7 with 3 card support, which makes the opener's life a bit harder.

2C or 1H (or maybe 2NT)
Frank_lol_ replied to Frank_lol_'s topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
The thing is, I HATE opening 2C with a long suit without 9 (9.5 with a minor suit) playing tricks. Give me the heart ten and I'll open 2C without a doubt. I guess this hand is still too good for a 1 level opening. Or the hand does have 9 playing tricks? 1+5+1+1.5=8.5 (I can't force myself to count the heart suit as 5.5 tricks; It can makes anywhere between 4-6 tricks) Edit: I guess the most important creteria is not whether I have enough tricks/points or not; it is whether I will miss a game if I open on the one level (and whether 2C will often leads to bad games) -
