One fun idea might be to, instead of retaining the deposit in the case of an appeal without merit, give it to the other side. Perhaps this might reduce any possible acrimony, and you never know, if in your student days you end up buying Team Rich a round of drinks, they might be happy to reciprocate ;)

A partner of mine has problems with the auction 1L (bid) 2? We play his bids as natural, but after years of playing artificial methods the senile old duffer keeps getting it wrong :) Sometimes all you can do is warn the opponents partner's a forgetful chap...

For me the form of scoring is of paramount importance: at pairs i try 2♣ if i miss game... well its one board at Imp it is imperative i rach game if it is there and 1NT is probably the best, if somewhat flawed way of reaching it.

The opponents have put partner (us) to the guess... Partners guess is likely to be as good as any so pass
