Is is always relative to the entire field? Based on BBO points, or ACBL mps, or what? I haven’t seen this addressed anywhere.

Interesting for me that this should pop up now. I recently ran out of the antidepressant meds I’ve been on and thought I could go for a few days till I was due to see my doc. Not true! The withdrawal symptoms were severe enough that I called in to get a refill immediately. When I do see the doc I definitely want to talk about getting off this *****!

Maybe my post wasn’t clear. I’m not worried about scoring or I wouldn’t be playing in an individual at all. I understand it when I get burned or burn myself. But you get less than 15 minutes for three boards. Call it speedball and players might pay more attention to the clock and we can get all three boards in. Forget the penalizing. That was a side issue, and I don’t see what BBO could do to enforce it anyway. It IS speedball so call it that.

Often the pace in individual games is glacial. BBO should label these games as speedball and penalize the slow players instead of penalizing everyone else who lose the opportunity to play all three boards in a round.

I got passed today in a cue bid and played in a 2-1 trump suit. Hilarious! My partner was “intermediate”. Anyway it’s always interesting. I do trust Beginner and Novice to be accurate (but will be watching for those experts Spade mentioned above.

I couldn’t agree with you more! I even say hello sometimes before a match. I guess two things frustrate me. The ultra slow bidding and play sometimes for no reason that I can fathom. And, although BBO self-descriptions are utterly subjective, I’m not keen on “private”. Especially when you have no system or conventions listed, I’d like to have something to go on.

Well, sometimes. Then how about how players identify, i.e. advanced, intermediate, etc.

When I don’t have a real life partner, I sometimes try the individuals. Quality of bidding and play is all over the map. How about an option with master point ranges to even this out? Personally I would find it a lot more enjoyable.
