  1. I can't resend the email, when I try it says there is nothing to send. I leave the radio button on remember, but it doesn't work. Peter
  2. I get "Resend validation email" when I go to the Forum, starting yesterday. I am no longer recognized as a member. When I click on the "Resend validation email" link, and enter my name (pbleighton), I get the result that there are no requests pending. I can log in as me, and post, but when I close out and reenter, the same thing occurs. Rebooting my machine doesn't help. Can I fix this so that I am once again recognized when I eneter the Forum? Peter
  3. "Absolutely not! I play weak jump overcalls more undiciplined than weak 2 openings. Think about it, when you open a weak 2, you may be preempting partner or the opponents. But when RHO opens, doesn't this increase the chance that you are preempting them, not partner? When partner is a passed hand, I make weak jump overcalls as much as I can (say with 0-13 HCP). At favorable vulnerability, I use almost the same strategy. When red I'm more diciplined." Hannie, would you give an example of a hand which you could both simple overcall and jump overcall with: 1) in the first two seats, AND 2) at a particular vulnerability (say favorable) Peter
  4. If you play "4 way transfers", then in response to 1NT: 2C - Stayman 2D/2H- xfer to majors 2S/2NT - xfer to minors - bid the minor with 4 or 3 to an honor, bid one less (i.e 1NT-2S-2NT) if you don't have support. 3C - 5-5 in minors, weak 3D - 5-5 in minors, strong 3H - 5-5 in majors, weak 3S - 5-5 in majors, strong Playing this way, invitational hands with no 4 card major go through 2NT. Peter
  5. I think double is better than 2S, but 2S is OK. I don't understand pd's failure to raise at all. He must bid 4S. Peter
  6. Free: "So opening with 1X with 19HCP isn't 'standard', but with 13HCP it is? Either I have to learn the English language again, or the standard systems, or this sentence is absolute rubish." The_Hog: "Frederick, I think you yourself are attempting to don the mantle of "bush lawyer". Argue not with a pedant for you will always lose. A 19 point hand is not "standard" in the context of that word." Hrothgar: "Now consider applying notions such as deviations from the Mode across an N dimensional space. Once you get far enough out on certain tails, you'll start rejecting signoffs..." ROFL Peter P.S. Richard - I think a simple "bullshit" would have sufficed
  7. "Might as well post the names of the South and North. It took me 2 seconds to find out who they were, since your partner's name was mentioned too. The moderating team must still be in bed." Why post the names, just because someone can find them out? I think omitting the names was correct. If you were to post the names, that would be gratuitous rudeness. Peter
  8. Pass. Mediocre 5 card suit and good defense. Peter
  9. "..but still, what kind of strength does an immediate 3c show? exactly what i have?" NV, could be a yarborough too :) This hand would be too strong (barely) for a 3 level jump IMO if the suit was a major, but you are unlikely to miss a minor suit game opposite a passed pd. If the suit was a major, I might jump to 4, but wouldn't bid 3. Peter
  10. "Great idea. But I don't have a pd here yet" Maybe Individual would be best. Peter
  11. North is a clear pass IMO. South - 3NT, but I have a lot of sympathy for pass. Peter
  12. "if you think your hand is worth a game force, why not 2h?" I don't think it's worth a game force, but I don't want pd passing 2C either, so 2S. Do you think game is very unlikely? If you do, then 2C is the right bid. Maybe I'm being too optimistic. Peter
  13. "found 17-19 too wide range, so went to Jump rebid =17 Then you can use a simple 2 way checkback/slam try or game force// or complicated Baron." Having the 2NT rebid show a 1 point range is inefficient, IMO. If you are going to use both a 2NT rebid and the 2D opener for balanced hands, why not have 2NT rebid = 17-18, 2D = 19-20, and 2NT = 21-22, taking the 22 hcp balanced hands out of 2C? Peter
  14. "On the other hand a club fit and clubs as the final denomination is relatively likely." Well, maybe. The form of scoring is not given. Perhaps I play too much matchpoints, for that is what I assumed. Pd's 1NT guarantees a stopper IMO, and he probably has two, given your void and East's pass. Doesn't this indicate 3NT, if pd has a max for his bid, at least at MPs? Peter
  15. Open 1D. It's a 2 suiter with 5m4M (the worst for 2C), and the stiff K makes it a marginal 2C opening anyway. North should open 3C in the first seat, unless there is a partnership agreement otherwise. I would pass this hand in the second seat. Peter
  16. "Yeah, I'd pass, and the reason I'd pass is that if I've got a solid 9 card suit, the chances are someone else has something useful as well. If they bid 4 or 5 hearts, I'm not so happy to go onto 6D when I could have made zero by passing the hand out. I'll take my bollocking from partner if this is a bad score" What on earth makes you think the opps won't bid if you pass in the first seat? Peter
  17. No, bid your shape. No. A little stronger and 1NT is the bid. 3H. Peter
  18. The choice is between 5D and 6D, IMO. 5D for me. Peter
