  1. 3S at favorable in my partnerships can be real crap, so I will pass and not hang partner. If we miss game, next hand. Peter
  2. As East, I would have bid 2S instead of X, but X isn't terrible. I wouldn't pass. If I did, I would have a penalty pass of 2D. For me, 3C doesn't show extras in this auction, after the X, but it doesn't deny them either, 3NT is reasonable. Stuff happens, don't beat yourself or partner up over this hand. Peter
  3. Pass in the first case, 3C in the second. In the first case I would bid 1NT the first time around. Peter
  4. It will be sooner than you think. Next November, you will vote for Hillary. Now, lie back, breathe deeply, close your eyes, and smile. Peter
  5. Most people, of course, pass it more than 1% of the time. Peter
  6. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/...re-kicking-ass/ Peter
  7. That depends on whether it's forcing. You started out saaying yes, now it seems you say no, but rarely passed. In the first case it's alertable, since it's not the standard agreement, in the second it is not. Peter
  8. Dude, you're not backpedalling, you're turning somersaults with your bicycle! Totally awesome! Peter
  9. From the pro-war Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...ml?hpid=topnews The Bush adminstration seems to be constututionally incapable of telling the truth. Peter
  10. 1H in the partnership which permits it, 1NT otherwise, though passing is close in that case. Peter
  11. Non forcing isn't a command to pass :P In my experience 1x-1y-2NT is passed between 10%-15% of the time, by opps as well as my partnerships. Peter
  12. Yeah, someone who could have articulated a clear position on the major issue of the campaign would have been better. Peter
  13. It isn't considered forcing in standard bidding. Peter
  14. If a call has other than a standard meaning the OP should say so. Otherwise, the practice in the Forums is to assume standard bidding. What do the three bids in this auction mean? Peter
  15. Not if you trust the opps. They have at least half the deck, there's a chance that slam may make, but I don't see a way of finding that out until the dummy comes down. Peter
  16. I don't understand the auction. Are you North or South? Peter
  17. The executive branch is only one branch of govenment. A declaration of war must be passed by Congress. And as to your larger point that elected politicians are supposed to ignore the wishes of the electorate, what is your source for this? Peter
  18. It depends on partner. 3D, to my mind, is a strong slam try showing at least 5-5, and I would expect partner to show his hand. In this case he would bid 4D, then I'd cue 5H, he'd bid 5S, denying a club control, and I'd bid 6S. Nice Forum bidding, eh? B) Peter
  19. 5H is way too fast. 3D is much better. Peter
  20. Partner should be 6-5 or better. If you trust the opps, he doen't have a lot of points. I would pass, but would be prepared to bid 5H over 5C. Peter
  21. South has to bid 5S over 5D. Otherwise partner will assume 19+ points and defense. Peter
