After a six week absence, Pete has a new video dated May 30. I still don't know why the absence.

Are Peter Hollands’ videos of playing the Weekly Free Instant tournaments no longer hosted on BBO? Yes, I know that I can view them on his YouTube channel, but I prefer to avoid the ads.

Yes, that is the hand, and North did indeed experience a brief connection dropout. When I reviewed the hand in History, and later via Handviewer Link, the play didn't encounter a hiccup until the final lead. And the scoring was correct up to that point. So I assumed that the connection dropout wasn't the issue. But what you show tells a different story, with a hiccup on the fourth trick. Thanks for explaining that; I've never seen it do this before, and was truly baffled. In case you are curious, here is my Handviewer Link: https://tinyurl.com/2qtn27xn

My partner declared a contract of 2 spades, making an overtrick for +1. BBO scored it as -2.

I just got it today (Oct. 13) when playing the Free Daylong Tournament. On Board 7, when I tried to lead the ten of hearts from the board, it crashed me out of the tournament with the following message: "An error has occurred. Table closing. GIB Ask Failed: ERROR(1): GIB Error: HTTP Issue: Status: 502" How did I get the exact text? The error was repeatable! I resumed the tournament, again tried to play the 10 of hearts, and again got the message. This time I took a screen capture. On my third attempt, I led the queen of hearts instead, and was able to continue the tournament. I hope this information helps. Ken

Yes, I realize that. But that gets wearisome. And it wasn't always this way. I was hoping that reporting it might lead to a fix.

Pardon me if this has appeared previously. I noticed the problem in mid-April, and just assumed it would be fixed quickly, but it has not. The scenario: You are playing or watching a match. You have the window and its panels adjusted the way you want. The History tab is selected on the right, so that you can toggle between “My Table” and “Other Tables” to compare results. You have the vertical sizing bar positioned to display, let’s say, 8 or 10 boards of History. If you select a different tab, such as People, when you return to the History tab, the scale is larger, causing only 5-6 boards of history to be displayed, and truncating the far right side of the panel. Clicking on the vertical sizing bar fixes the problem immediately, but this gets wearisome. I use the Firefox browser.

Make it easier to swap partners at a table
nwken replied to nwken's topic in Suggestions for the Software
I confirmed that you are correct. It's the "Reset Score" that causes the loss of "Other tables" History. We played yesterday without resetting the score, but we really miss having the ongoing score displayed for easy reference. - - - I would still like to keep this as a software change suggestion. I know there are others who would use it. Perhaps the implementation could be a "Change partners" button which: 1. Allows the host to choose the seats of the other three players, or simply which two to swap 2. Redeals the hand (which it does already for "Permission required to play") 3. Resets the score, but without affecting the History. -
This would work for simpler alerts. But for more complex ones, a player needs to spell out the exact meaning of a bid. Far too often, I see an alert that is (for example) nothing more than "Drury", which could mean contradictory things. According to ACBL Alert Procedures, "Stating the common or popular name of the convention is not sufficient." I fear that an Alert Manager would encourage improper alerts, at least at some levels of play.

During the bidding phase of a hand, the bid window is centered in the tableau. But after the contract is established, clicking on the contract to review the bidding displays the bid window in the upper right of the tableau, where it overlaps several of the North and East cards. Why is it no longer centered? It becomes frustrating during Daylong Just Declare robot tournaments. When one hand is finished, the bidding of the next is promptly displayed in the center of the tableau for a rather short time. I like to review the bids and look at the cards in order to learn the GIB bidding system. I end up clicking on the contract to see a bid, then clicking again to see the cards, repeating for lengthy contracts. It’s very annoying, and so unnecessary. Please position the bid window in the center of the tableau always. An alternative: Allow the bid window to be dragged/repositioned after the contract has been established.

My friends and I like to play round robin matches. We will play 8 boards, then switch partners, and repeat until we’ve played 24. We have the table set to “Permission required to play”, so that the Host can prevent a stranger from joining in while we are switching seats. Then, when it’s time to switch, two people will simply click on their own username to “stand up” (become a Kibitzer at the table), then click on the other, now vacant, seat. The Host accepts them, does a “Reset Score”, and we begin the next round. The comprehensive score shown under My Table is an individual score. The score displayed in the upper left is the partnership score for each set of eight boards. This all works pretty well. The problem is… After such a switch in partners, the History tab, "Other Tables" information is unavailable, except for your own table. If you want to see how others played a previous hand, you can’t. Clicking on any result but your own yields “Error loading deal”. This is true for everyone at the table, Host or not, those who switched seats and those who did not. (The Refresh button does not help either.) After getting “Error loading deal”, if you again click on that result, you get “Loading data. Please wait…” Even several minutes later, that is the message. Curiously, the History of Other Tables does not get lost! You can find it much later, the next time you log in, under History, Recent hands. But of course, it is too late for the live post-play discussion. Speed of changing partners does not seem to matter. Even if seat changing is done very quickly, the information is still lost. We have also tried setting up an invisible table, which does not require Host Acceptance. But at an invisible table, your hands will not be retrievable later under History - Recent hands. Is there a better method for switching seats, which would retain the History of Other Tables? Is there a better way to play a round robin match with friends?

I was going to suggest the same thing, for the same reason.

No, I mean the History for Other Tables. The History for My Table is still there, but the results from Other Tables are either gone, or unable to load. We played again today, and this time I was not the Host. I did not lose any History when we swapped seats, so maybe this happens only to the Host.

We’ve also tried an invisible table, which does not require Acceptance. But whenever a person switches seats, they inevitably lose some History for Other Tables. It cannot be recovered. I believe this happens regardless of whether you are host or not. I’ve tried being quicker in switching seats, but still lose History. Is there a better method for switching seats, which would retain the History of Other Tables?
