I would guess that if my topic was something like "Can't figure out how to give more of my money to bbo, please help," support might have actually sent a reply, even if it was something like "sorry, not possible a this time. we are/are not working on it." It is a good thing that there are now other bridge playing platforms that are being built up quickly and in ways superior to BBO.

Can I use keyboard shortcuts to reply to a friend, chat to table, or chat to kibs in the HTML5 version of the software? It used to be possible in the ancient windows client and more recent Flash versions. CTRL+R, CTRL+T, CTRL+K were the shortcuts. Now it seems that was killed. It is incredibly annoying to have to click through with the mouse to direct chats to different recipients.

Am I seeing right that the typical keyboard chat shortcuts no longer work? That is rather distressing.

Web client: interface for kibiting single hand
matmat replied to slior's topic in Suggestions for the Software
try right clicking the name of the player you want to kibitz while at the table. you should see a pop-up menu that lets you watch just their hand (even rotates the view for (in)convenience). -

Windows client retirement feedback thread
matmat replied to cuckoo5's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Given how widescreen (read: short and wide) monitors have become the standard, I don't understand why the task bad and the apple dock default to being at the bottom of the screen, rather than a side... -

Most browsers have this option. Looks like on firefox you have to switch to it in another tab (F11) and then CTRL+TAB to the BBO tab to get it to work there. You can switch to non-browser windows tasks with ALT+TAB (usually) and other browser tabs with CTRL+TAB. Probably something similar on a mac, but am too lazy to check. -
Awww... but it was so on point!

Are there any other behaviours of people who are complete strangers to you that you would like to control? Is it OK if I eat while playing bridge online? can I enjoy a beer while doing so?

I also miss the ability to do a minor hack on some of the data files and fly a pirate flag! -
Your comment is irrelevant to what I said.

It is absolutely ridiculous for BBO to censor private chat between friends.

This thread is a fascinating read. Math is hard.

I really miss the Windows version feature that would play the correct card for you automatically. Can you please make sure that gets ported in future updates? There are a bunch of features described as "missing" from the web version on this and another site and I am pretty sure (in some cases certain) that the features are there but the way to get at them might not be immediately clear to some folk. There may be value in generating an FAQ, or a Q&A thread, or something of the sort to make people aware of these purportedly missing features and help guide people through the transition. -

I am somewhat disconcerted that BBO is censoring language in private chat. As far as I've been able to discern, there was no announcement of this anywhere and getting a 2 minute ban for completely non-abusive use of curse words in private chat seems inappropriate. This means BBO is reading private chat. I would understand (more) if the filter were employed for public chat. I still wouldn't agree with it. There is no smart filter of any sort in the software, seems like there is just a dictionary (unpublished, obviously). Does not use context clues, just plain old "you used a bad word. bad user! bad!" It doesn't filter curses in other languages, doesn't pick up local variations, doesn't pick up spelling mistakes. Seems like this effort is completely misguided, given that BBO already has a blacklist that any person that feels abused could easily employ to block their abuser. I am glad BBO has decided to roll out the language police. If there is discussion of this elsewhere on the forums -- sorry, didn't see it in my short search.

BBO Upgraded: ACBL IT, Friends/Followed/Ignored Players
matmat replied to diana_eva's topic in Suggestions for the Software
This. Now we have to go through two lists to find a table to kib or (sometimes) play. The whole concept of knowing who also has you friended can be problematic, too, as others have pointed out. I, for one, have penciled down a few names now of people who I shall have to find at the next NABC and have a stern talking to... If BBO chooses to keep the friends/followers split, I suggest also a list of "stalkers" who are people that we have marked to ignore/enemy and who have decided to follow us. This way BBO will furnish us with the information necessary to retaliate against the ingrates who refuse to friend us and to protect ourselves against the stalkers with restraining orders.... -

How to calculate the distributive strength of the hand?
matmat replied to gergana85's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
I might be able to prove that the max number of losers in a hand is 13, but it is tough. -
Look at how we are tip-toeing around naming the name of the cheat who stole hand records. With a few exceptions, the consequences of cheating seem to be minimal. Also, directors have little incentive to catch/report/punish cheats. Isn't the directors' pay, in most cases, tied to how big the game is? In that situation, why would you ever look to turn a player away for any reason (imo this is related to many other problems with club and local tournament level bridge).

What Type of Partnership Do you Play In
matmat replied to eagles123's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Why do you assume that someone answering this survey will always think of themselves (or perhaps always think of their partner) first? -

Not sure. There's a screen in the way. Is there a bet riding on the outcome of this poll or some sort of psych experiment? or is the end goal to put someone off? -
