[hv=d=s&v=e&n=shxxdq10xxxxxcaj8x&s=sakqj10xhdk9cq9xxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] South open 1♣16+ West bid 1♥, North X - which should be 4-9pts, East is pass, South rebid 1!s which shown 5+♠ and 16-20 pts, West rebid 4♥, 5♦ from North, pass from E, and you are now on?
-
If you expect your partner to gave reasonable double, the hand should be similar to something like that ♠Ax ♥KQxxxx ♦Ax ♣Qxx and to rest to his RHO to have KQ 8th♠ to make blockjump bid but as i sow some players they distort the idea of major block with 4♠ or 4♥ so could be expected hadn with 7th♠ and why not 4th♥ even
-
I confirm same thought like Gerben42. very tempthing card, but with that strenght i'm wondering what partner hold to dbl, so 5♠ could be also grand bid invite directly without 4nt first. I hope that dbl is not funny dbl :D
-
i would try 2nt rebid after 2♠, 3♦ should be GF, 2NT could be even 5-4 to be taken as invite 7-9 pts with 5th♠. depends of constribution of ♥ in ops you can hide ♣loser and to try finese on ♦T to dummy, but at all many opinios could be gave at open cards. I just want to say that will bid one more time with weak hand
-
For first supposition with that kind of constributions i don't think that game could be called makeable. For second if you dispose ♥KQx in LHO you may let K or Q to win on ♥T
-
A♦ ♦ could lead to trump promotion, 6-3-2-2 i would try A♦ then X♣ to J♣ and 10♥ to dummy after RHO probably win backing !d will prevent from promotion Q guard backing ♠ would be difficult, but may tru ♣ 3-3 and finess ♥ and to hope that 3♦ hold 2-3-6-3

Ok, i'll gave more details, maybe first explanation was very fast you hold up card and you play precision ♣ with your partner Now only you both bidding He open 1♣ which mean 16+ any pts You have two ways to respond with your cards 1. - 1NT - some variants of precision first bid is only pts 7-9pts any distrubution On your 1NT(any) he bid 2♠ which is 5+♠ 16-20 pts You gave 4♦ Cue bid with 4+♠ support and control ♦ ( single or void ) He close to 4♠, rejecting to continue bidding controls 2- 1♠ natural 5+♠ 8+pts He gave bid 2♠ which could be non other 5th suit and same pts For me he can't bid 3♠ which should be higher level of opening 20+ pts 3+♠ and no 5th suit again. 3♠ in that bids sound definetly as SI if you are not in range 8-10 pts and you don't have suitable controls On 2♠ you gave 4♦ at control and again SI if he bid 4♥, which is most interesting control for you how should be continued from now on And if he bid 4♠ does it mean stop and signoff or not exactly ?
-
Another exaple you hold ♠Q10xxx ♥Q ♦- ♣KJ10xxxx you partner open 1♣ 16+ , you answer 1NT 7-9 pts any he bid 2♠, you bid 4♦Cue bid, he bid 4♠ second bid 1♣ - 1♠ ( nat 5+ 8+pts ) he bid 2♠ you bid 4♦ same and he also close to 4♠ do you will look for more ?
-
bidding 2♦ could force partner to pass even fit 5-1 and you could miss safety game 5-2♠ and mostly 2♠=3♦ as score but not at levels. 2♣ shouldnt' be more then 14, so 2♠ for me too as previous posters is logical and good bid. If your partner hold 5-0-4-4 will be missed game probably on 5♦, but who knows better chicken in hand then eagle in sky
-
Good point and i'm agree that 4♠ is very poor even in limited SAYC open force. Investigating game is not curiosity for me, it's just a way to let some of both partner just to say : Simple game, welldone p. Bidding through the levels is the core of the game bridge. That's why as i say up, i use that kind of bids 1-4 and 1-3 rarely( ofcourse without intereferense from opponents ). Hiding game from the ops hide beauty and from partner.
-
 5th ♠ 5-7pts
-
maybe i'm in wrong but i assume that i'm LHO on 1♣ open bid like 1♣ - I'm ( and i'm pass ) - 1♥ - My partner ( gave Dbl ) - 2♥ - and i'm on bid again ?? in that situation biding ♠ should make me fifth for the partner, unforsing bid can't be 4th, expect if 1♥ - Dbl doesn't guaranteed that in him. aggresive bid is 3♥ which should express certainly what i'm hold following question, bidding 2♠ should be nonforsing bid for me and i should consist not more then 7pts and 5th ♠. 6♠+ and shortness in ♥, becouse dbl of my partner show 1-3 mostly will follow to 3♠ bid on 2♥.
-
in both cases i would gave double if he was pass after 1♣, will be only forsing to other 2 suits- ♠ and ♦, or own unicolour with doubling strenght. after 2♥ weakjump bid, Dbl will mean excluding suit dbl and summary points for our pair, which could be transformed to penaly if 2♥ bid player could find distribution of 5 cards in partner or 4 at least. IF he hold ♠, bidding 2♠ will lead to 3♥cue rebid with my card
-
in addition of up saying words with that card i also will find other bid not closing 4♠ even if you playing SAYC where hand is limited not like 2/1 sometimes fast reaching of contract is tempting for partner to express him abbility of guessing partner habits. In any kind of bridge pair is good if only one of them have passion of flying, if both of them are flyboys, will be hard to stop at secure level. If aggresive half of bridge pair bid signoff bid 4 major, or 3NT for other player is easy to throw the pass carton. I have friend who said that even on 1♥/♠ 2♥/♠ bid he almost everytime accept as invite becouse as he told : "Only with stupid hand i wouldn't accept it, and most of cases i didn't open with stupid hand " ;) Elementary logic but everyone have right to think as he like. Bidding 1 - 4 and 1nt 3nt are normal, but beauty of the game is in travelling through the levels and to examine partner. No slam or game obligation, is there only good bids and good contracts.
-
All depends of style for opening 1NT Using 5-4-2-2 6-3-2-2 or sort of combinations make desicion harder. with hand like AKxx AQx KJx 10xx i would open 1♣ and rebid 2♠ something like mine own desicion but i like to ensure partner that we are not truly vulnerable of any of suit. opening NT is as level high who stop oponents to show natural suit at 1st level but same and for partner opening 1♣ or 1♦ gave more freedom for understanding on safety level with partner. like 1♣ -> 1♦ -> 1♥/♠ -> 1NT many information even 1♣ 1♥/♠ 1NT - 2♣/♦ checkbacks, which is better then simply 1nt opening
-
some of players make stayman even with 3-3-3-4 or 3-3-4-3 expect ops to follow that conclusion
-
i didn't resist for regret and ;) yes, we play bergen raises no, for exclusive blackwood partner hold: ♠Qxx ♥AKxxx ♦xxx ♣Kx i bid 5♣ and if he was bid 5♥, with my void ♥, i should stop on 5♠, K♠ was good and the game is so so safety but he bid 5♠ and i hoped that he also don't have ♥control, and raise to 6♠, not penalised but down for regret.
-
you hold ♠AJ10xx ♥- ♦Qxx ♣AQJxx you open 1♠ pas 4♠ from the partner all 4 on the table friendly pass or you start the engine ;) what next ? and mostly, do you should trust on partner desicion or will hope the he/she misjudge your open hand ?
-
depends of 11 points and kind of tournament. 11 points from and where points are in majors only, minors only or distrubuted with not generally points in major you could bid 3NT with points generally in majors you can show curiosity and to go throught Stayman two games as i imagine could be 109xx Axx KQx 3NT Q10x and AQxx KJx J10x i would bid 2♣ xxx
-
Certainly you can found so many attractive games when dummy is so stupid hand, and combined with other hand game is terrific. But i follow that mind that bridge except sense should contain and logic bids I vote for pass not becouse that % was less but becose that hand don't contain nothing more then 3 cards fit support and 2 controls shown by Ace. more value will have hand with same key cards but other addtional cards ♠x ♥109x ♦A109xx ♣J109x and with that cards is reasonable for me to show 2♥ support that is only my opinion, but trust me i'm not passive player, just i respect jumps, cue bid, and other support conventional bids. you should know did partner have good card or just try to scary oponents

interesting hand truly but even if i'm bid 5♦, which i really doubt, no doubt that i'll bid 5nt after 5♠, no Dbl. 5♠ is good bid, but can't stop small slam, for grand is not very easy to be predicted. But if i bid 5♦ and rebid 5NT, partner could have some imaginations i think B)

That's why Versace play that kind of games, and for us ( like kibitzers ) what is left is "smart analyses". Anyway we can learn and remember some of that kind famous players games. Noone is born already educated, but not certainly anyone can be educated.

Lucky cards in opps indeed and Q♣ should be safety

If i was the partner with first showen cards, i would bid 5♥ on 4♠ control. After on mine 4♥ control, partner has ambitions for something higher, i will not let him stop. he declare 4♦, mine 5♦ is useless bid. 5♥ somekind josephine and the fate is in his fingers  , 5 or 6 he deside, but with 4♦ void and mine 4♥ and 4♣ mostly 6 level is very good looking
