a and b are partners a loses connection and is replaced by robot for board x. Board x does not show in a's history -- but it does in b's history. note: board traveler shows robot playing with b. So --when this happened in a VACB game i directed today, player a was understandably confused. since board x counts toward a total score, i would think it should show in a's history. is this by design, or is it an error to be fixed ? -=-= John Pieper

for Tourn 15854 (SE Carolina open 7 pm ET Mon 06 Sep), at roughly 10 minutes before game start, 'JABIGGS' is both entered (paired with 'jimmieann') and in the partnership desk.

Thanks. +nap+ sets game as a NAP qualifier (ACBL only).

Tourney 87763 was set as an 18 table Howell with 9 rounds of 2: +allavail+ +howell+ +nap+ +hm18+ We had 8 tables. I have been told that if we got to 9 tables it would automagically switch to Mitchell -- but that seems to have happened with only 8. Could someone explain how this all works ? Thanks.

In our VACB game today (#35587) the name 'enichols' was in pale gray instead of normal black. This was both in the table list and in the view of table where she was playing. what does this indicate ??

If i enable it for a game, can i then disable it while game is running? (and vice-versa) -=-=

I think that any Director Call gets sent to one of the TDs present (no idea how selected) -- not to all. This allows the various TDs running a large game to share the workload. -=-=

Where did that tournament chat come from?

Error in player timings shown in table history
Keene_JP replied to peterb001's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
SO -- to summarize: For all boards in the 1st round and for boards not 1st in that round for subsequent rounds, the total playing times times shown in Table History ARE correct. For the 1st board of each round after the 1st, the times are wrong -- but only for the dealer. Could someone please reply here when this has been fixed ? Thanks. -=-= -
In our VACB we have 5 equal TDs Whoever is running a particular game logs in as VACBxxxxxx to run the game We can log in under our individual names earlier to modify game setup if we see need to do so. but, by using the VACB login to run the game, there is no problem. IF our games were big enough to require 2 or more TDs to run, then maybe this would be an issue. -=-=

The ACBL and BBO very recently made Swiss Teams an option for VIrtual CLubs. We ran one last Sunday -- went smoothly, but round 2 started immediately after round 1 etc. Our players are used to having time to sit with teammates to compare scores between rounds. With BBO doing all the comparisons and scoring this is no longer necessary -- but it is part of the basic "culture" of playing Swiss. Is there a way to achieve this? Will these hacks work in Swiss? +break1+bduration=4+ That would force 4 minutes deadtime after round 1 during which (presumably) chatting to teammates would be possible. (Ideally, this would utilize a new choice for chat: "teammates" where what you say goes to the 3 others.) If this hack does work, could TD, during round 2, edit the game description to change the hack to +break2+bduration=4+ to similarly delay round 3? Or, would it be necessary to put all in the initial game setup: +break1+bduration=4+ +break2+bduration=4+ +break3+bduration=4+

We have had various subs that -- for a variety of reasons -- we wish to never have again. Is there a way to prevent their being able to accept a future request for a sub? I know subs do not get screened for VACB eligibility, or for MP limits -- this suggests that putting them on Ignore list will not work. Comments?

As a TD, i have had players ask me where the portraits were.

Has BBO dropped portrait display for players ? -=-=

Pairs Tournament: sitouts at half table
Keene_JP replied to morganwilk's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
when we run a '299 tourn, we do NOT use human subs for a sitout since they do not get screened for MP limit. (it took a while for us to realize that the subs in a '299 could be super life masters). so, what we do: 1) sub robots at beginning for the sitouts 2) each round, ask opps if they would rather play against robots or have a sitout 2a) if robot = no problem, then play on 2b) if do not want to play against robot, then do nothing. When board(s) times out, score will become A== AND, as others have noted, robots might finish 1st (2nd etc.) but are discarded from score before masterpoint awards are given. -
Is it possible for a VACB club to run a Swiss tournament ? -=-=

I would hope the assumption would be that the players would play sensibly. S should know that the A,K,Q of S are extant -- why pitch H to keep his worthless S ??

In the game that i ran today one of the players alerted me to an error in the automatic score adjustment for an incomplete board. VACB 260653 (NH Unit 150 Statewide) Tourn # 47196 Table 2 (i think) N-S = kcfl + GrnMtnMan board 12 contract = 3NT by W. After 8 tricks, N was on lead with trick count NS 3; EW 5. N led 9D, then time ran out, leaving this position: North S KT H J D 3 C West East S AQ7 S 982 H 95 H A8 D D C C South S J54 H T2 D C N wins the 9D, then the 3D, then the JH. No matter what EW do, N must win the KS, for score down 2. Board was GIB adjusted to down 1. P.S. wish i could have pasted screen shot instead of having to type the position! -=-=

If player A has to drop out before the game is over and is replaced by player B, and if that pair places, there is the question of whether A or B should get the masterpoints. Supposedly, BBO will award points to the player who played over half the boards, which makes sense. But, this does not happen. In a recent tournament, 10 rounds of 2 boards, a player had to leave during board 19. I replaced her with a robot for the last board. Results show her partner + robot in 2nd place with no points for her. Is there any way that this can be changed ?

I "know" that it is illegal to open 1NT with a singleton unless it is Q, K, or A (and, until a few years ago, even those were not allowed). 2 questions: 1) which specific Law is it that disallows such? 2) on BBO (not face-face where you, as TD, can more easily interact with the offender) what is a fair (or standard) penalty to assess? Does it matter whether opponents felt damage was done or not? -=-=

Is there any way to punish a pair for a Zero Tolerance violation? In an in-the-flesh tournament, typical would be to deduct some matchpoints from final score. Is that possible here? If not, any other ideas? Also - if not, maybe this should be added.

i know this sounds silly, but, somehow some old posts got pinned and insist on being on top of list. How do i unpin them ? -=-=

Is it possible to adjust # tricks taken on a completed board? Per this morning's TD at our club, Today's #41345 NH Open Unit 150 Statewide had an unusual difficulty matchpointing Board 18 Board 18 ended as AVG for John Maxwell and Jules Lemire though every bid and card had been played. They had defended all thirteen tricks in 3S and took 5 tricks. All 52 cards had been played and BBO had summarized "8 tricks taken", however, the result used for matchpointing showed AVERAGE. Because the hand was "completed" the only adjustments allowed are not trick-specific ... We were unable to assign 8 tricks taken in this contract of 3S, to equitably mirror what clearly had happened at the actual table. -=-=

Wish List - 02 - Audible Alarms
Keene_JP replied to Keene_JP's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
re 1) -- where / how do i enable that? -
i would like to have 2 related features to make it easier to direct a game. These both involve an audible alarm (beep etc.) to get TD's attention. Why? Some tournaments, especially small ones, require little TD action. As a TD, it is tempting to do other things (e.g., make lunch) with frequent glances at the TD screen. Also, some TD calls (should a robot generated score for an unfinished board be changed?) can take a few minutes, during which another problem might go unnoticed. In such cases, a BEEP would get TD attention. The 2 alarm types i would like are: 1) for any director call 2) for a player dropout (ideally only if for longer than xx seconds) Ideally, these could dynamically be enabled / disabled via a command on the TD menu.
