In the absence of any response I tried installing Google Play on this Amazon Fire so I could access the latest version of the app. However it would not allow me to install the app because I had already put it on an old Nexus 7 for him (this was too slow and unreliable). I deleted it from the Nexus (in fact I did a factory reset as well) but I still couldn’t install the correct Android version as it appeared still to be registered to his account. In desperation I set him up with access via his browser, but this is more difficult for him as the screen space is smaller than with the app, making it more difficult for him to touch the correct part of the screen with him arthritic fingers. We’ll see how he gets on.
