Take this with a grain of salt. I'm not sure if I should get a vote. After 15 years away from BBO and bridge in general I'm up to a grand total of two hours a week, with a set partner, against robots. Here's the thing. Apparently, some people have a weird reaction to cards. It turns them into big rude jerks. It's so bad that I prefer to play against robots because they don't belittle each other or type at each other in all caps. People are nuts! This is true, playing for zero stakes and the ability to politely excuse themselves. If they start obsessing about their ratings I'm afraid of the bridge playing population being wiped out by spontaneous human combustion and exploding craniums.

I never see anyone playing there. Is it used only for lessons?

I believe in puns. Puns are good Helene.

Are their huge differences between the night guards sold in drugstores and one made for you?

I don't think the chat should be restricted by gags. Most people on BBO are adults. Be considerate and gag yourselves!

I think the best thing is for people to be considerate and realize that with that many people in the room, that they should keep the non-related chat to a minimum. Learning can be fun. But the scrolling lines of inanities are neither fun nor instructive for the other 695 people being subjected to them.

When do I give present count and when do I give original count?

A beginner/intermediate is not the same as an advancing intermediate. I have never read anything in any bridge book that is too complicated for an advancing intermediate. I hope that I haven't misrepresented. I think I'm an advancing intermediate, but many books feel way over my head. Maybe I'm an intermediate, intermediate hoping to advance.
